Proverbs 20:

God's Promise.

"The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him." ~Pr 20:7

God promises that our children will be blessed after us when we live righteously before Him and raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

His blessings extend to us, and to our children after us, and to the generations after us.

How blessed and precious is THAT??!!

Proverbs 20:

Wisdom.
AKA: Sober and Vigilant.

We are admonished again and again throughout God's Word to be "sober and vigilant" for the devil goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. We are also admonished along with it, to wear the full armor of God. In case it's not perfectly clear yet, we are at WAR. It's a "spiritual war". Yes, the devil goes about RIGHT NOW as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. We don't stand a chance without doing as God admonishes us to do. And that is to be sober, be vigilant, be alert, and to put on the full armor of God so that we can withstand the wiles and the darts of the enemy.

And how might we make it easier for the devil, going about as a roaring lion, seeking to devour us? Well to be "half-conscious", perhaps? Which is the antithesis to being "sober and vigilant", isn't it? To be in a stupor is the makings of us being a prime "target" for this salivating, predatory lion. A "sitting duck", in other words.

Therefore, whatever would rend us such a condition is not just "best to be avoided", but to be avoided like "poison".

There's a REASON that God tells us again and again in his Word to avoid anything that would dull and/or distort our senses and open the door wide to any vulnerability to the wiles of the devil and his influence.

Proverbs 20:

Blessed Generations.

When we walk righteously before God, our children WILL be blessed after us, even if it seems that they have wandered off just like the Prodigal Son. His father was a righteous man, and since he was, he surely kept praying for his son. And what happened? One day the father saw, afar off, a very weary and tattered figure coming down the road. As he looked closer, he saw it was his son. It was GOD Who brought his son back to him. In the end, his son returned to him, and repented. And what did the father do? He CELEBRATED.

God WILL bless the generations after us when we are faithful and therefore righteous.

How PRECIOUS is THAT??!!

Proverbs 20:

God: The Shepherd.
AKA: Goats vs Sheep.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." ~Pr 3:5-6

It is written that it is GOD Who guides our steps. We are LED by our Shepherd, and that is God Himself.

WE are NOT the Shepherd.

GOD is.

It is also written that we are NOT to lean on our own understanding. That means that we lay down our OWN "wisdom" and "understanding" at His feet, and trust HIS "wisdom".

The bottom line is, that we can NOT be a "sheep" if we rely on our own wisdom and understanding and not our own Shepherds.

To do so would mean that we are "goats".

Not "sheep".

And as we know, goats are "stiff-necked". And we know what is written about what happens to the "stiff-necked".

Amen?

"He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy." ~Pr 29:1

Proverbs 20:

Foolishness.

God admonishes us all throughout His Word that we are to be alert and vigilant, and that we are not to "dull our senses". It is through the "dulling of our senses" that Satan can take a foothold/stronghold on us. It is foolish and self-destructive to "allow" it.

We are admonished to do this:

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" ~I Pet 5:8

Proverbs 20:

Knowing Our Way.

"Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?" ~Pr 20:24

How can we "know our way", when it is so clear that we, in our own finite-ness, are "blind as bats", and are oblivious to our "limited" time here on earth? We "block out" and are "oblivious" to our own mortality. We don't see those warning signs and reminders that that waterfall cliff gets ever closer that the boat we are on is rushing towards.

"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." ~Pr 16:25

We "tune it out" as we "party along the way". In the meantime, as it is written that God Himself CALLs OUT TO US, throwing us a "LIFE LINE", admonishing us to grab hold of it before it is too late.

Are we listening?

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." ~Pr 3:5-6
