The fact that the African diaspora survived 400 years of brutal slavery, lynchings, Jim Crow, segregation and economic disparity, and have still emerged, wounded but whole is a miracle. No other group has experienced this on the same scale. It's sad that analyses of the situation vis the African diaspora don't take this into account. People seem to expect them to just sort themselves up, even while the same racial oppression is still alive and well - albeit somewhat dimminished.

Please discuss

Blacks have made tremendous progress since the Civil and Voting Rights Acts of the 1960's. They have advanced in every field including politics. They have the means to advance economically if certain investments are made by the black community itself.

Culturally there are a few things they can do as well to improve their condition.

Sadly many blacks along with their liberal advocates want to build their future on past grievances rather than the progress they have already made.

So many people think that because racism and bigotry have diminished, they have been eliminated. As if there are no longer any racists in charge.

Racism often gets lost in the general discrimination practices that affect us all. For example are fat people discriminated against to the same or greater extent than blacks are? How about very short, or very tall, people, or those not particularly good looking? Lots of what I term preferential decisions being made that some deem discrimination or outright racism.

Yes, many have barriers and there are many kinds of discrimination. Racism is one and it's more pervasive than many people think.

True, and it's global and manifests in many forms. Western blacks are likely the least affected by racism.

Please read the research and scholarship on this issue. Your statement is very inaccurate.

I've done the research extensively. As a minority western blacks are in pretty good shape. Their destiny is in their own hands. They've come a long way since the days of Emmett Till and Dick Rowland.

They enjoy mitigating factors that others around the world don't: Equality, Affirmative Action, capitalism, free enterprise, Constitutional and other rights, government and private aid, etc.

Your phrase was 'the least affected' which I think might have been chosen unwisely.

I'll counter that your phrase "slightly diminished" wasn't the best way to contrast then and now regarding blacks.

I think it is a good choice given the scope of the topic, but it's ok with me if you disagree. Other minorities don't have the choices that western blacks have, mainly the choice of not putting oneself in a situation that might illicit racism or what is perceived to be racism.

Racism is a constant when you have peoples of very different ethnicities mixing together. Definitely a handicap for a minority people.

Racism is being presented as an insurmountable barrier to black progress. This is a bigger problem than racism itself as the 'solution' requires a wholesale change in the white culture of America.

Ultimately, I believe that what you are saying is: 'there is no racism. Blacks need to just get on with it and get over it'.

How have you arrived at the conclusion that black people are the ethnic group least affected by racism?

It also sounds as if you're saying that racism is a reasonable response to the behaviour of POC.

I'm saying that while racism exists it's not the biggest problem blacks face in America.

How do you see it?

On a global basis I think that is pretty clear. However that aspect needs careful study.

What behavior are you referring to?

It isn't clear at all. It's the first time I've ever heard anyone suggest that.

What behavior are you referring to?
I'm paraphrasing your argument. That would be my question to you.
