They aren't automatically wrong, they are wrong when they do wrong, which this officer clearly did.

Portland protestors are being charged and some found guilty:

If I was on these forums for as long as you were, I am sure I would be able to master the art of double speak, not-so-subtle insults (within the rules of course) and general disdain for opposite positions.

DA: Charges filed against 10 people arrested during protests, riots in Portland

These 10 people were just charged 2 weeks ago. And based on the Multnomah county DA's office, they have issued 194 cases specifically related to the protests in the last year. Protest Cases | Multnomah County District Attorney

I just posted the first 2 I found quickly. Not every prosecution or arrest gets headlines. The point is it is a false claim to say that rioters weren't arrest, prosecuted and in same cases convicted, not to mention the low rate of prosecution is often because they know the charges won't stick because they are bogus.

These police officers should be ordered to stay at this team until substitutes are trained. Whoever refuse this direct order should terminated.

We should strongly support the police. We should NOT support police rejecting police authority.

So, for many, it OK for policemen to walk off the job to protest someone being charged by the DA. They MIGHT request transfer or resign from the force.

With regard to the case, the officer was charged by the DA. A jury will make their decision here. I think that we are discussing 4th degree assault. If his actions are within his orders and training, he will be acquitted as is almost always the case. If his actions are indeed with his orders and training, then that training needs to be revised, but that is another matter entirely.

I understand that you don't believe that the police can arrest someone, interrogate them for useful information, and then release them, usually before nightfall.
