What do you like better dogs or cats?

I like both. Until recently, I had a dog for sixteen years, along with a cat for ten years. The dog had to be put to sleep due to old age a month ago. The cat is alive and well.

Knowing what I know now, I would choose a cat over a dog. Not because I like cats more than dogs, but because of the responsibility you take on when owning a dog. The biggest issue for me was not being able to spend time away from home because of the need to let my dog out to do his business.

When you are thinking about owning a pet, you should consider the time and effort that must be put into keeping them happy and taking care of their welfare, which includes exercise and restroom breaks, grooming and trimming their nails, cleaning and upkeep of your home. These things impact your life in ways you may not have thought about, if you've never owned a pet before or had sole responsibility for one.

A cat can be left alone for weeks on end, as long as they have food and water and a place to go. A companion is even better and ensures they won't spend their days sleeping while you're gone.

If I were to pick one? I miss my dog for sure, but I don't miss the responsibility. Will I ever own a dog again? Right now the answer is no, but I miss my little boy. Will I ever own a cat again after this one is gone? I don't know. I hate cleaning cat boxes. lol

Again, I like both cats and dogs, but there are things about both that need to be considered before owning them. They are a long-term commitment.

I like dogs better for me but I always like other people's cats. Kitties are nice to cuddle with but dogs hear and see everything like a living burglar alarm. The dog I used to have could hear a car stopping in front and he'd go sniffin at the door waiting for someone to come on the porch. He would of never bit anyone though I don't think but he was always on alert. Dogs are like a symbiote they learn all of your moods and vocal tones so they always know how you feel.

Proud cat person here. And I don't think that'll ever change. :)

Dogs all the way. I used to be a cat person, but recently cats have started to make me feel uneasy. It's partially due to the hunting thing. Dogs make me melt.
Dogs can be some pretty ruthless hunters as well.

I agree that cats and dogs are very different. Dogs are pack animals and look to their owners. Cats do not (at least not in the wild). Although, my cat follows me everywhere I go in the apartment, as he has done since a kitten. He has formed habits like a pack animal would, based around me. I am his whole world though, so that's understandable. Albeit not the same as a dog.

My dog looked to me as his provider constantly. He was always thinking about food and treats. I think that can be misconstrued as "love". Of course, we do know that our dogs love us, because they form bonds and snuggle and what not, but their nature causes them to seek every advantage where food is concerned and try to pull fast ones on you, taking advantage of you for their gain, being manipulative.

There are shortcomings we accept with our pets, as they accept our shortcomings. I don't think of a dog/human relationship as wholly "man's best friend", but I've met dogs and cats that meet that to some degree. I think it depends on the dog's personality and how they gel with their owners.

Dogs for me....started raising dogs for Guiding Eyes for the Blind when I was in 4th grade and raised 12 dogs by the time I went to college. After we got married, we raised Rottweilers for many years. Dogs are alot more work, but I love the security of a dog....and they so know what you are thinking. The biggest drawback is SHEDDING. My next dog, if I get another one, will be the kind that doesn't shed.

Boston Terriers don't shed either, but can't be out in the cold for very long.

Nifty. I know what it's like to own a dog that can't be out in the cold for long. My chihuahua would shiver.

Yes, I believe none of the TERRIERS shed. Any dog where eye have to take them to a groomer to cut their hair, usually are not shedders :)
