I have enemies who are making my life a literal living hell. They are ruining my mental health and tormenting me. Because of them I can’t live normally. This has been going on for about a decade now, and no end seems to be in sight.

Many times I have asked God to get rid of my enemies permanently. He told me that I must quit all sinning for him to give me what I want. But is this truly the case? There have been many occasions where I fulfilled God’s request and didn’t sin, but he failed to keep his word and permanently get rid of my enemies. He will find fault in me or move the goalposts as reason for letting me down. Recently on my days where I have gone without sinning, God still didn’t get rid of my enemies. But this time it’s worse: God didn’t provide a reason for why he didn’t help me.

This has made me extremely distressed, and now I feel like my life is going to be an abject failure because God won’t get rid of my enemies permanently despite doing what he said he wanted me to do.

Last night I promised God I would do my best to avoid all sinning the following day, but with one condition: God would need to communicate to me if he would get rid of my enemies permanently the next night if I managed to forgo all sinning. Unfortunately, I was deeply let down because God didn’t bother to tell me anything.

The fact cannot be understated that my enemies are ruining my life, and my fate will end in destruction if they aren’t gotten rid of permanently. But I don’t know what God wants me to do so that he will get rid of them permanently. He isn’t communicating with me on this subject.

Thus, I would like for everyone to please pray for me and ask God to tell me what he requires me to do so that he will permanently get rid of my enemies. I’ll do anything God wants that is within my ability to do. He just as to tell me what it is, and I’ll do as he says.

No this is not the case.
God does not make bargains with us, he expects us to obey his commands.
If you believe that you have made a deal with God, you are being decived.

Please talk to your doctor about your problems.

I am sure that John 3:16 covers these problems.
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that all who believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life.

No.
God's love, mercy and grace are not conditional; neither does God bargain with us before he will answer our prayers.

Last night I promised God I would do my best to avoid all sinning the following day, but with one condition: God would need to communicate to me if he would get rid of my enemies permanently the next night if I managed to forgo all sinning. Unfortunately, I was deeply let down because God didn’t bother to tell me anything.

You weren't let down; that was his answer to you.

If you believe that God said "stop sinning and I will get rid of your enemies, you said to God "show me that you mean that" and God didn't show you anything, then what you thought was from him, wasn't.
God would always confirm his word to you - usually through Scripture.

Thus, I would like for everyone to please pray for me and ask God to tell me what he requires me to do so that he will permanently get rid of my enemies. I’ll do anything God wants that is within my ability to do. He just as to tell me what it is, and I’ll do as he says.

What God wants is for you to have a trusting relationship with him - not one where you bargain and saying "if I manage to do this, will you do that?"
We can't get rid of our sins on our own anyway - if we could, there would have been no point to the cross. God's word says that if we confess our sins he is faithful, will forgive us and make us clean, 1 John 1:9. Jesus died for your sins; he gave his life for them.
Believe that, confess, thank him for his forgiveness and ask him to live in you, and then talk to him about your enemies - whoever or whatever they are. And remember that Jesus told us to forgive, and love, our enemies.

I have enemies who are making my life a literal living hell. They are ruining my mental health and tormenting me.

Based on all your posts regarding this, I think mental health is your problem. I have had mental health issues along these lines myself. I think you should talk to both a doctor and a pastor or Christian counselor.

My problem was fixed though a combination of medication for a chemical imbalance in my brain, and though counseling from my pastor and others. It took time, but I got though it that way.

I cannot pray to the Lord that you describe. Because he does not break his word. If I would pray the way you ask I would be praying to the devil.

However I will pray to the real Lord, the Almighty, that you will learn who he really is and be freed from your tournament.

Much to my dismay, I didn’t receive an answer from God recently. He didn’t even give me a vague hint of an answer.

How then can I get God to get rid of my enemies permanently when he won’t give me clear or even ambiguous instructions? I may have a solution…

I will spend my life laying on the couch and watching TV. Since I’ll be confined to the living room doing literally nothing, God won’t be able to find any fault in me. I’ll go through my nicotine withdrawals as I’m watching TV, feeling miserable. Maybe, just maybe, God will then get rid of my enemies permanently, since no fault can be found in me in such a scenario.

Honestly, I have no idea if this idea will work. But I have to try something, I must. If I don’t keep trying to get God to get rid of my enemies permanently, my life will end in an abysmal failure.

I’ll begin my couch sitting marathon tomorrow, which could last up to a month. I’ll be miserable from nicotine withdrawals, but I won’t have the ability to sin since I’ll be doing practically nothing. Will God permanently get rid of my enemies if I do this? I sure hope so.

This is about the same as your request from last month Nine of Spades. I am very sorry you are going through a hard time, but the only way you are condemned with your sin is if you do not trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of your sins. Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and rose again conquering death. Do you believe this? If you truly do, walk in this. If God is telling you he will stop torment if you stop sinning, then it is not God's voice. You need to rebuke it.

Much to my dismay, I didn’t receive an answer from God recently. He didn’t even give me a vague hint of an answer.

You don't think the words of your brothers and sisters on this forum might be an answer?
Or are you rejecting all advice/answers because you're expecting a flash of lightning and a booming voice from the sky?

How then can I get God to get rid of my enemies permanently when he won’t give me clear or even ambiguous instructions?

You can't GET God to do anything - if you're trying to force his hand, that is your problem. You won't succeed.

I may have a solution…

I will spend my life laying on the couch and watching TV. Since I’ll be confined to the living room doing literally nothing, God won’t be able to find any fault in me.

Other than the fault of not trusting him, not serving him, not loving your enemies as Jesus taught, not praying for them and trying to make him do what you want.
Laying on the couch all day wouldn't solve a thing.

Honestly, I have no idea if this idea will work.

I have - it won't.

If I don’t keep trying to get God to get rid of my enemies permanently, my life will end in an abysmal failure.

You might as well save yourself a month of misery - trying to force God to act won't work.

but I won’t have the ability to sin since I’ll be doing practically nothing.

If you're doing nothing when God wants you to be doing something, you'll be sinning.
Far greater though is the "I'm doing nothing until you do what I want; I'm not sinning, so you have to."

That attitude is a sin.

Who, or what are your enemies? People, habits, addictions?
If people, why are they your enemies? Have you talked to them? Prayed for them? Loved them as Jesus told us to? If not, why do you expect that a month of inaction on your part will solve the problem?

Doing nothing but lazing on the couch for a week is a sin. Constantly making angry accusations against the Almighty is an even bigger sin.

I pray you learn Who He is and what sin is.

Are you seeking the answer from God in Scripture or expecting some form of divine thunderous answer you hear with your ears? Hearing from God through Scipture is very possible and indeed likely, but the latter is extremely rare and many think it impossible to happen since the completion of Scripture 2000 years ago. Regardless of whether impossible or exceptionally unlikely, you should be seeking the answer in Scripture.

Also, there are sins of commission and sins of omission. Did you not read the story the Lord spoke to us about in parables, where the master gave some investments to different people, and some invested and made profits and others buried the money and gained nothing? The master returned and took that money away from the servant who buried the money in the ground to the one who had made some profit. Likewise, if God has given you gifts which are for your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, the Lord expects you to put them to use, so hiding on the couch is not going to free you from sin.

I will pray for you of course. But what is really going on with you? Did I read about you apparently fighting against nicotine addiction? Is that the crux of your problems or a major contributor? Who are your persecutors and what are they doing to cause you such grief? Apply yourself to Scripture and LISTEN to what the Lord speaks to you through Scripture. But feel free to explain to us a bit more in detail and we'll do what we can to help you out, because we don't want you to waste a month.

I spent all day on the couch doing nothing. I didn’t smoke, nor did I drink or commit any other so-called sin. I couldn’t have sinned because I did nothing to offend God, who appears to get offended by pretty much anything human and calls it sin.

Yet my enemies were not gotten rid of permanently. They weren’t even gotten rid of temporarily. God did not keep his word. And the worst part: He didn’t even bother to tell me why!

I’m fed up with God’s misconduct towards me. I deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, not lied to.

I would like everyone to please ask God to communicate with me and tell me why he didn’t permanently get rid of my enemies when I didn’t sin. I did everything he required, but God didn’t keep his word again!

As long as my enemies are present and not permanently gotten rid of, my life will end in abysmal failure. Does God even understand this? Or doe he understand it but doesn’t care enough about my life to keep his word?

I spent all day on the couch doing nothing. I didn’t smoke, nor did I drink or commit any other so-called sin. I couldn’t have sinned because I did nothing to offend God,

If God wants you to use each day wisely and to the best of your ability, and you spend it doing nothing; how is that NOT a sin?

who appears to get offended by pretty much anything human and calls it sin.

No, it's humans who have the wrong idea about sin.

Someone smokes? Not a sin.
Likes a drink and may occasionally get drunk? Not a sin - maybe not wise, but not sinful.
Watches unhealthy films? Not really a sin, though, again; unwise.

Sin is refusing to accept that nothing you do will get you to heaven, that Jesus died for you and has made forgiveness possible.
Sin is refusing this free gift of eternal life, which cost God everything, and saying "I'll do it MY way."
Sin is thinking, "I don't need to accept Jesus or God's will. I live a decent life and if I abstain from the things which I think are sin, God will have to let me into heaven."
Sin is trying to manipulate God into doing our will - trying to remake him in our image.

Yet my enemies were not gotten rid of permanently. They weren’t even gotten rid of temporarily. God did not keep his word.

Did God promise you that he would do that, or did you say "here's the deal God; I won't sin and then I want you to get rid of my enemies"?

If God promised something, he will keep it - maybe not in the time or way that we think that he should, but he will.
If you bargained with God and told him that giving up sin for 24 hours meant that he had to do what you asked; don't be surprised that it hasn't happened.

I’m fed up with God’s misconduct towards me.

Ever thought that maybe he's fed up with your conduct towards him?
He created you and sent his Son to save you. He owes you nothing. None of us deserve anything from him, but in his grace and mercy, he has made it possible for us to have a relationship with him.

I deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, not lied to.

How has he lied to you?

I would like everyone to please ask God to communicate with me and tell me why he didn’t permanently get rid of my enemies when I didn’t sin. I did everything he required,

DID he say that he required that of you?
God doesn't bargain with us; he doesn't need to. He is the Creator, we are the created; he chose to create us, and owes us nothing.
God offers to everyone the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life through his Son, Romans 6:23. He wants us to accept this and will never stop reaching out to us, but he doesn't force anyone.
Jesus has paid the price for your sins, and it is he who can, and will, set you free, John 8:36.

If any other voice is telling you that you have to do X to please God; that voice is not God's.

As long as my enemies are present and not permanently gotten rid of, my life will end in abysmal failure. Does God even understand this?

He understands the situation, and you, far better than you think - and he knows all your motives.
Who are your enemies, and why will your life end in failure if you are not rid of them?

Or doe he understand it but doesn’t care enough about my life to keep his word?

Of course he cares.
What was his word to you - do you know that it was definitely God who was speaking?

Read your Bible and pray everyday. Ask to know Jesus,
I pray for the confusion to be cast out, you need Jesus.

God alone judges sin. We are not capable of judging ourselves to His divine standard. 1 John 1:9-10

I suggest you start in Romans and read the first 7 chapters then come back here and post what you learned. Start at Romans 1.

Continue through Romans 7: Christian Forums

Also, where do you get the idea that God wants to eliminate your enemies and not work through this time to build you to be stronger? God never lies. It is impossible. Get in Scripture and spend your time there. Also, if you have continued troubles and need some help, reach out to us through the Ask A Chaplain private forum, where you are anonymous to others and we can help you more specifically address these troubles through Scriptural guidance.
