Always sort of wondered what the meaning behind the words "we are more than conquerors" was. But in verse 36 Paul was quoting from Psalms 44:22, and when you compare both Chapters of scripture, what he was saying was that all the sufferings we go through - all the afflictions and hardships we experience as Christians - make us greater than mere conquerors on the battlefield. Certainly we face our spiritual enemy every day, personally and sometimes even publicly. But we will be remembered for far more than just that. It reminds me of George Washington, whose armies not only emerged victorious in the war against the British during the American Revolution, but who stood his post during one of the harshest winters in US history when many of his men were deserting him. At Valley Forge, they endured being insufficiently clothed (what scripture calls "nakedness") and hunger (what Romans 8:36 calls "famine") while the British army enjoyed warmth and plenty of food. But the American Army emerged victorious, making them more than merely conquerors.

Hopefully this is our testimony when we go on to be with God; that we endured all manner of hardships in fighting the good fight of faith, and didn't just overcome the enemy but overcame him even amidst the worst hardships, proving just how faithful we were to God, and how worthy we are of honor in eternity.

yes! I love relating scripture to true stories- it keeps it alive in another way, and re emphasizes it's Truth!! What a great comparison.
