Hi all,

I have recently become a Christian and am absolutely in love :) with my church. I'm almost addicted to going every Sunday (which if your going to be addicted to anything, let it be church right? ;). The only issue I have with going is that I'm really shy about singing. I have a huge fear of speaking in public and also singing around other people. I really want to join in, but I can't seem to make myself do it. Has anyone else encountered this issue, and if so, have you overcome it?

Hi Emily!

Shyness is all in the mind and it's your will, and more powerful - your faith that will allow you to overcome this. Just step out in faith, close your eyes and look at the positive side of things. I'm sure you can make it!

Thanks everyone for your advice! I actually sang at church last Sunday. I felt just fine. I was a bit self-conscious at first, but I overcame that soon after.

That's wonderful! It really is easy to sing praises to God, isn't it?

Goodness I am so thankful I found you all! I am such a shy person, I have been all my life. It’s a horrible thing to deal with, but I so love going to church and spending time with my church family and in the house of the Lord. When it comes to singing I feel so awful because I want to sing but I am too concerned with what others think even though I know deep down they ain’t going to judge me, but in my heart I am that noisy loud singer lol.

Not everyone is a singer, I am not. I would just watch and listen to others sing,
no big deal. Enjoy your freedom, not to sing.

That is true! God knows our need and feelings of limitations. He looks on the heart. One needs to stay close to the Lord Jesus all day everyday, and one will then have a song in their heart --if not aloud. I always like to remind Christians to walk and talk with Him all day, and singing in private as well as in a group is good. Maybe using a good hymnal with wording will help at home.

I can't carry a tune either, but I softly sing along in church, just not loud enough for others to hear me. I know the Lord hears me, and that is enough for me.
