What this is really about is the idea that climate change is not mostly driven by manmade causes, but rather by Milankovich cycles or some other natural orbital changes. While these cycles are real, they cannot explain the observed climate change, mainly because the timescale of the cycles are in the tens of thousands of years, rather than the much more rapid changes in the observed climate.

So in other words, this was probably an attempt at conservative humor: an in-joke to tickle the ribs of the conspiracy theorists.

If the earth's orbit is to blame for climate change, then only by changing the orbit can we address climate change. Since that's impossible, we should just do nothing. If it's inevitable, you should just lie back and enjoy it.

Conservatives increasing are not using language the same way the rest of us might. It's not about communication of facts anymore, but coded messages and dog whistles where the explicit content matters less than the emotional content and metecommunication embedded within the language determines its significance. It's why Trump could say such ridiculous things constantly and his supporters accepted it - because he routinely abused the ambiguity of metacommunication.

I actually lived on Guam, it's one of the most beautiful places in the whole world with great weather (except for huge typhoons). It's a peak on a giant mountain range, and isn't going anywhere.

When you say, "the rest of us", are you referring to those who use words and phrases such as "equity" in place of "equality"? Or "justice" when referring to "preference"?

The solar collecters and microwave energy transmission was established technology when Isaac Asimov wrote the short story Reason in 1941. (Though not on the scale he described).

This idea always reminds me of Gundam 00, where the major powers of that time have built a solar collector ring around Earth, connected to ground by three orbital elevators that are also used to transfer power down from the ring.

That's based on a real theoretical solar collector system, however, in real life, they wouldn't use elevators (why would they? you use elevators to carry material objects, not flowing energy). They would use microwave antennas to beam the energy to stations on earth that would generate an alternating current from the radiated energy.

Now that Trump has mostly, successfully, divorced the GOP from its adherence to Conservative principles, the base needs something to act as a “place-holder” until the Party figures out what it stands for now!

And it looks as if they’ve gone with “anger”.

You can certainly see it in the forums. What are the 'conservative' topics in American Politics? Anti-BLM. Anti-diversity. Anti-abortion. Anti-inclusive language. Anti-vaccination. Anti-Happy Holidays (okay I made that up, but just you wait until October.)

Anyone for infrastructure? Voting rights? Tax plans? American manufacturing? Trade issues with China and the EU? Immigration reform? Asylum laws?

Conservatives barely seem to have time to take swipes at Biden, since what seems to be uppermost on their mind is the culture war. Is the strategy to stay angry until November 2022?
