No such thing as a dumb question?
"Is there anything that the National Forest Service, or BLM can do to change the course of the moon's orbit or the Earth's orbit around the sun?" Gohmert asked Eberlien. "Obviously they would have profound effects on our climate."

"I would have to follow up with you on that one, Mr. Gohmert," Eberlien responded.

"Well, if you figure out a way that you in the Forest Service can make that change, I'd like to know," Gohmert added.

Well at least he asked the right agency, BLM. Whats more "land management" than moving all the land?
The right people to direct a query such as this would be the ones found adjacent to the ministry of silly walks, the gormless asininity mitigation office.

Oh my! How long before trump and his grifters start a superPAC to change the moon's orbit to combat climate change? Please donate generously to UncleScamdotnut to save the grandkids hahaha. How folks justify voting for politicians who exploit them continues to astonish me.

Fortunately, I've gotten good at interpreting right wing gibberish. One of the reasons I come here.

What this is really about is the idea that climate change is not mostly driven by manmade causes, but rather by Milankovich cycles or some other natural orbital changes. While these cycles are real, they cannot explain the observed climate change, mainly because the timescale of the cycles are in the tens of thousands of years, rather than the much more rapid changes in the observed climate.

So in other words, this was probably an attempt at conservative humor: an in-joke to tickle the ribs of the conspiracy theorists.

If the earth's orbit is to blame for climate change, then only by changing the orbit can we address climate change. Since that's impossible, we should just do nothing. If it's inevitable, you should just lie back and enjoy it.

Climate Change will stop when the U.S. and especially China, and other national polluters, switch over to non-polluting means. It may already be too late. I hope not.

We hear comments like Gohmert's fairly often from people who have held power and wealth (especially politicians) a little too long. A sort of mental distortion.

I would find that plausible except ... it's Louie Gohmert. Deep thought and subtle signaling are not his strengths.

This incident reminds me of when Hank Johnson Jr. (democrat) was concerned about Guam capsizing if too many people were on it:

It could theoretically be done.

If we started right now it might be done in a few million years.

Oh my.
--------
We have actually already been moving the Earth from its orbit. Every time a probe leaves the Earth for another planet, it imparts a small impulse to the Earth in the opposite direction, similar to the recoil of a gun. Luckily for us — but unfortunately for the purpose of moving the Earth — this effect is incredibly small.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy is the most capable launch vehicle today. We would need 300 billion billion launches at full capacity in order to achieve the orbit change to Mars. The material making up all these rockets would be equivalent to 85% of the Earth, leaving only 15% of Earth in Mars orbit.

In that story one of the battles carves off a chunk of the planet leaving it somewhat pear shaped.

And then the politicians would be worrying about how to prevent Mars from destabilizing our new orbit whenever it gets too close to us.

But with far less we could put up huge solar collecters that would block a selected amount of sunlight and then beam it to Earth as pure power. Probably one millionth of the effort with far more return. And adjustable! The collectors could easily be adjusted if things go to far.

The solar collecters and microwave energy transmission was established technology when Isaac Asimov wrote the short story Reason in 1941. (Though not on the scale he described).
