My point is that "cancel" is just a modern name for an act that is old as the hills.

Both the Mosaic Law and the Apostle Paul recommend it. In fact, Paul explicitly said, "...for the destruction of the body."

Of course it is. It’s exactly what Joe McCarthy and his right-wing cheering squad did to their ideological opponents back in the 5Os. Even government got into hunt for “Communists.” (Anyone remember the long-disbanded House Committee on UnAmerican Affairs?)

McCarthy was especially sordid. Many of his accusations were grossly exaggerated. Some were outright fabrications. And ultimately, he was cancelled himself.

I’m old enough to remember when the Dixie Chicks were ‘canceled’ by their fans for daring to criticize former President Bush (my how times have changed!) for the invasion of Iraq. They eventually made a comeback.

You can always read or listen to various podcasts. It also depends on the topic and if I want news or opinion. If I want conservative leaning news that's trustworthy, I read the National Review, Wall Street Journal and the BBC. I try not to be baited by the extremes so I avoid HuffPo or Glenn Beck.
