• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My OCD is telling me that everything I do is a sin and that if I don’t give it up, then I won’t be saved. I feel like I can’t do ANYTHING without it being somehow against God. This makes it so hard to go to God. I’m scared that I’m resisting him and not fully surrendering. I feel so overwhelmed and I don’t know what to do.

Trust God. He knows all about you and He cares. Trust the promises in the Bible.
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Lord Jesus will forgive all of your sin.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Hi -

I'm going to go on the assumption that you are saved and have, at some point, made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ.

With that being said - when God saves us, he already knows what our issues are and what they will be. All of our weaknesses and fears and failings are factored in. And guess what - God saves us nonetheless. And keeps us in him.

That's extreme and perfect love.

Intrusive thoughts can cause annoyance and even agony. One thing that makes it worse sometimes is we allow the way we feel to absorb all of that. Feelings are normal to us humans but feeling cannot lead our daily lives. Feelings are not the engine of the train. They are the caboose.

Faith is the engine - which guides the caboose, our feelings.

Your faith in Christ - that's not based on a feeling. And our faith in him is not the absence of fears, doubts, anxieties, and more. Our faith in Christ is pushing ahead and walking in him DESPITE those things. The caboose of your train may be full of intrusive thoughts and more. But your heart - your faith leads.

I have suffered and I mean suffered from depression and anxiety for years - off and on. I know how doubts and fears can shake one's faith to the core.

What helps me is to allow these intrusive thoughts to just go in one ear and out the other. I don't give them any credence nor give them any confidence. I may whisper sometimes to God that, "You know this isn't me. Help me distinguish my faith from my feelings."

So, lose the OCD. Then, you could look at those questions without unnecessary heckling.

I am sure it is very frustrating for you, which seems to compound the situation, so lets get rid of those crippling thoughts first….

I can promise you that you are not committing or coming close to committing the unforgivable sin.

I am not going into it right now, but trust me …you wouldn’t be on this site or asking for help if you were even close to committing it. This is not something you do accidentally …it takes a concise effort and commitment to something that is 180 degrees out of a believer’s phase. Nobody who has committed this does it accidently. And if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and savior…. there is absolutely zero chance of ever committing the unforgivable sin ….even if you wanted to …but you don’t.

Secondly ….You can’t earn salvation by be being good …that’s works …Salvation is a gift of Grace.

Ephesians 2:4,5, 8,9.

2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

And the great thing is ….you can’t loose it….no matter how bad you screw up because it’s seed …incorruptible seed.

1 Peter 1:23

1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

With that said ….I knew a couple people with rather severe OCD who were healed in a short time by reading the Word of God. In fact they were some of the best biblical researchers I worked with. They both had this unique ability to lock in on with intensity on specific areas of research and take it to depths that blew me away ….Maybe that was an offshoot of OCD …I don’t know.

My suggestion to them when I first met them was to memorize the book of Ephesians….I had done it so just as an off the cuff statement…. I told them to do that; they were brothers …actually twins
When I saw them about 3 weeks later, they had not only memorized Ephesians, but were working on Philippians. But what impressed me and them was the healing that had taken place with the disorder …it was an incredible change… But that’s what God does….I know from the Bible that the words in the Bible are spirit, life and healing. I have seen the healing take place many times with different people and different situations……the words are spirit and they are life.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

So.... if you are so inclined ….Memorize Ephesians.

you are listening to intrusive thoughts. all one does with these thoughts is acknowledge them by saying, " Yes that is correct." and move on giving it no more thought.

do not debate ith, talk , argue ortry to suppress them.

Fear is the opposite of faith. Fear often strangles us because of lack of knowledge and practice of using logic. Those who are very touchy-feely and everything is about emotions are blown back and forth by the wind by every breeze that occurs in the spiritual world they get "high" off the Holy Spirit and get beaten up by demonic spirits. They are like a naked warrior without even a pea shooter on the battlefield of sin in life. There is scripture in the bible talking about putting on the whole armor of God to fight against forces sent to defeat us I suggest that is one thing to think about. As others have mentioned you really really need to read the Bible and THINK about what it says, meditate on the scriptures and what the authors say and how it applies to you. You also need to halt feelings and emotions when they get out of hand because they will sweep you into illogical unprofitable thinking and trap you there in fear.

Your salvation and sanctification is all covered by HIS promise of election to His flock. There is nothing you can do about it...it is HIS job, not yours.

Your job is not to try to force HIM to save you by good deeds but to seek HIM, to be open to HIS knock, to wait upon HIM in HIS good time and to endure with loving repentance the discipline HE meets out to you for your lapses as per Heb 12:5-11!

"As You will" implies to some that you must find and know HIS will and then do it but don't forget your life is predetermined to be the best for you and to end the best for you so trusting in your hope that this is true and applies to you is job one, for you, Heb 11:1. :)

I have the same problem. I think I'm a reprobate at this point. The road is so narrow to heaven that it seems like it's almost impossible to get there.
Like it doesn't help that only 8 people out of millions were saved during the days of noah.
Were in the last days, and I'm almost confident that I'm apart of the hell bound. Hell is an horrible place to go to, but I'm convinced that even if I tried it will still be my destination.

@Litpath
Your sure of hell being your destination because you were told that lie the day you became a believer. Fear of hell does not imply it’s your destination. It simply refers to your struggle to differentiate between what god expects from you.
He expects spirit living. Not perfect living. If you believed in your heart Jesus is lord. You are saved. And all the Emmy can do now is convince you not to ask God for help saving anyone else

Litpath, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior you have eternal life. These are not the days of Noah; this is the age of our Savior.

Don't believe the lies!

John 10:27-30, "My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; no one will snatch them from my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch them from my Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

This includes you!
