U.S. House candidate Anthony Bouchard had a relationship with and impregnated a 14-year-old girl when he was 18, he told the Star-Tribune late Thursday, hours after he disclosed the relationship in a Facebook Live video to his supporters.

Bouchard, who did not specify the girl's age in the video, said he went public with the information to get ahead of the story after learning that people were investigating it in opposition to his candidacy. A Wyoming state senator since 2017, Bouchard has risen in prominence since announcing he would challenge Rep. Liz Cheney following her vote to impeach then-President Donald Trump.

"So, bottom line, it's a story when I was young, two teenagers, girl gets pregnant," he said in the Facebook Live video. "You've heard those stories before. She was a little younger than me, so it's like the Romeo and Juliet story."

[They wed the following year.] They got divorced approximately three years later. Bouchard’s ex-wife killed herself when she was 20, he said.

Bouchard said he decided to post a video to get ahead of a story about his previous marriage that he anticipated would be published in the near future.

[A story about the pregnancy was published in the Daily Fail.] It cited "an unnamed Republican operative" who is "in the Donald Trump faction of the party."

Yet again, more bad news for the GOP.
Perhaps you can explain to us how an apparently criminal act committed by someone when he was 18 reflects on the entire GOP?

You'd think so, but if the Roy Moore situation told us anything, it's that many (not all, but many) in the GOP will rationalize a lot of bad behavior in order to keep a narrative in tact.

When it was uncovered that it was very likely that Moore engaged in sexual behavior with someone who was well under the legal age, prominent GOP officials in his state still came to his defense

David Hall said that the encounter was irrelevant because it happened "40 years ago".

Jerry Pow said that he'd support Roy Moore "even if the candidate had committed a sex crime" because he "wouldn't want to vote for Doug (Jones)."

William Blocker stated that he would still consider voting for Moore even if "hard proof of sexual abuse emerged".

I would include Trump too. If the five years worth of bad behavior from him told us anything, it's that many (not all, but many) in the GOP will rationalize a lot of bad behavior in order to keep a narrative in tact and it seems like the most popular excuse was "I voted for a President, not a pastor!"

I doesn't - yet. But, if (as expected) the GOP jumps on his bandwagon and supports him despite this apparently criminal act, it will reflect poorly on them.

Which they will, because Donald supports him, as he's opposing Cheney.

And Donald is the last person on Earth who will turn on a politician because of dalliances with a minor.

Which is a shame, because it's looking like many of them are in need of a pastor.

The press will play this matter up, just like they did about the former judge in AL.

They weren't married until a year later, so this is totally irrelevant. And also child marriage is pretty problematic. Not exactly the best defense.

A whole year, eh? That's a long time. ;)

...I'm not defending or condemning though, I'm just sayin'.
