Let Your Light Shine.. Matt 5:16
I'm no really sure of the energy difference but it is likely that battery powered cars are more efficient with energy than gas cars because of two reasons: 1)They are a lot lighter and 2)Gas motors are not very efficient a lot of power is lost in heat I think I once read they are maybe 20 something percent efficient. I don't know how efficient electric cars are but some have a neat feature that in braking they use the motors somehow to generate some power to recharge the batteries some.Often enough to be annoying. I get it from people who drive electric cars; and I explain to them that it requires more energy to operate them, than if they just burnt the gasoline. Oddly I get from people who are driving gasoline powered cars too. Maybe they've been taking lessons from Biden.
The big problem with electric vehicles are:
1)short range before needing recharge
2)Recharge time cannot match the time to refill a gas tank
3)An electric car that runs out of power you can't just go get a battery to power it enough to get it to a charging station
4)Charging stations aren't everywhere and charging at home may require purchasing a charging station which could cost more than you think
5)Batteries over time wear out and need replacing and a battery "set" I've heard can cost more than some used gas powered cars and without a new battery the car is.... unusable. It is likely as the battery ages the performance and range suffers so if you are used to the car getting 50 miles per charge you could find it 6 years later only getting 25 miles per charge and that may not "get you there" so you have to replace the battery or stop and charge half way to your destination
6)In power outages you cannot recharge your electric car. You can use the power in it though while a gas powered car can still run without a grid if you can find gas for it. If I had an electric car in 2007 here I would be in a picikle as 4 days no power and I used the car to get food and supplies and recharge batteries I used at night here every day.
7)Electric cars will likely raise your electric bill considerably and as more and more electric cars depend on the power grid electric companies will have to spend billions and billions to upgrade everything from wiring on poles to larger feeder lines and bigger poles and more power stations and switching network and personnel to operate stuff. When electric companies have to spend money..... you have to pay for it nothing is free so even if you have a gas car everyone else who is going electric you are subsidizing their need for a larger grid (your bill will increase and you basically get nothing in return if you still use a gas car. Prices per KWH likely will go up.
8)It is possible some politician will invent a utility tax to pay for whatever their pet project is (maybe subsidizing electric cars for poor folks) so that could add to higher bills. We could see electric bills double over this electric car stuff.
