Andrew Brown Jr. Police Shooting Was Justified
A North Carolina district attorney said Tuesday the fatal shooting of Andrew Brown Jr. by sheriff deputies in Elizabeth City, N.C., in April was justified, according to his review of the state’s Bureau of Investigation’s probe.
Family lawyers said last month that an independent autopsy found Mr. Brown had been shot five times. Family members who viewed the body-cam footage said shots were fired before Mr. Brown attempted to flee and called the shooting an execution.
District Attorney Andrew Womble said in a news conference that Mr. Brown backed his car away from a team of officers seeking to arrest him, striking one of the officers. He said Mr. Brown also put the car in drive and was headed toward two other officers when deputies began shooting. He said it was appropriate and legal for deputies to fire their weapons because of their perception that the car was being used as a deadly weapon.

Yet after viewing the video, his family walked out and lied to the world about what happened. His family's lawyer even went so far as to say he was "murdered".

How did you see the video? Where did you see it? Are you law enforcement involved with the case? The judge has ruled that the video can’t be released for another couple weeks.

That didn’t answer my question. How and where did you see it when they haven’t released it yet? All the CNN article shows is security footage from down the street that shows the officers approaching, but not the shooting.

I saw the shooting on that link. suspect drove directly at an officer after being told to stop.

It appears that the DA released the pertinent parts of the video (the section that showed the altercation between Brown and the officers) when he made his statement about his ruling. This showed several angles from different body cams of Brown in his car, the officers surrounding his car with guns drawn and demanding he get out, his putting the car in reverse to back out of his drive when there were at least 2 officers at the rear of the car, his putting the car in drive and spinning the wheel to go across his lawn to get away, nearly hitting two more officers. That is when it appears they opened up and shot him.

Based on what I saw in the video, he was fleeing in his car , but I did not see targeting of the police surrounding the car. Was it reckless? Yes. Was it an attempt to run police down? It doesn’t appear that way from the video.

k, for some reason the first time I pulled up the CNN link, the image at the top was only showing as a still, not a video link.

Anyways, now that I’ve seen it, it’s clear that shots were fired after he tried to flee, but that he was not trying to run over anybody.
