A Third Rebuilt Temple In Jerusalem Is Not Biblical

Prophecy teachers refer to these passages to justify their explanation of a future 3rd temple in Jerusalem.

And since these deceptions are from the enemy, they create events in Israel to make it seem like they are going to build a 3rd temple, and they very well might.

But the Bible passages that these teachers are referring to have nothing to do with the end times or a third temple in Jerusalem.

Daniel 9

Futurists claim that Daniel 9:26-27 foretells an end times antichrist who will make a 7-year peace treaty with Israel, the 70th week of Daniel.

The peace agreement would supposedly allow the temple sacrifices to take place. And after 3 1/2 years, the antichrist will supposedly desecrate the temple, to start 3 1/2 years of Great Tribulation.

But the 70th week of Daniel was fulfilled on time, after the 69th week. Go figure!

It was fulfilled from 27-34 A.D., when Messiah and His disciples confirmed with the Jews for seven years, that He is the promised Messiah who atoned for their sins by ratifying the everlasting covenant, as the Passover Lamb of Elohim. Read The Covenant Of The 70th Week

And the “people of the prince” is not referring to an end times antichrist, but it was fulfilled by Roman Prince Titus, who desolated Jerusalem and the temple and the Jews, in 70 A.D

Here is a Bible study that proves that it was Prince Titus.

Here is a study that shows the fulfillment of Daniel 12, the Abomination of Desolation, and the fulfillment of the 1,290 and 1335 days of great tribulation in Judea.

The 70 weeks of Daniel prophecy only speaks about the rebuilding of the second temple, and never speaks about a third temple.

It speaks about the coming Messiah, and never speaks about an end times antichrist.

It gives a 70 week time frame and never speaks about a 1,987+ year time gap in between the 69th and 70th week.

Inserting those things into the prophecy is an abuse of Scripture, as they are out of context with Elohim’s Word.

The concept of a futuristic 70th week of Daniel and one-man antichrist, is the creation of the Jesuits in the 16th century; as they sought to deflect blame about from the Roman Catholic Church as the Antichrist beast of Revelation, the Little Horn of Daniel, and the office of the Papacy, the Son of Perdition.

2 Thessalonians 2

Futurists claim that in 2 Thessalonians 2 Paul is speaking about an end times antichrist who will sit in the temple in Jerusalem and proclaim to be God.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

So what does Paul mean?

Keep in mind that when the Apostle Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, the Jewish temple was still standing, as it wasn’t destroyed by the Romans until 70 A.D., so any reference to a physical temple would have been to that temple, not an end times temple.

To understand that, let’s look at how Messiah defined the word “temple.”

In John 2:14, Messiah spoke of the physical temple. The Greek word for the physical temple is hieron.

And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.”

Then just five verses later in John 2:19-20, Jesus spoke of the spiritual temple. The Greek word for the spiritual temple is naos.

Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” But He was speaking of the temple of His body.”

Whenever Paul used the word naos, he applied it to followers of Messiah, the Christian Church, which is a literal temple, but not a physical building.

Paul is saying that the Son of Perdition would sit in the temple of Elohim, that is, in the midst of the true church.

Instead of being an infidel who doesn’t believe in God, like so many pastors teach, the Antichrist does not reign outside of the Church, but in the very bosom of the Church.

Paul places the Son of Perdition nowhere else than in the very sanctuary of God.

The Pope sits (assumes a position of authority) as God in the temple of God, proclaiming to be the leader of all Christians.

The Pope is called the ‘Vicar of Christ’ which means ‘substitute for Christ.’

He proclaims to forgive sins.

He proclaims that salvation is only available through the Roman Catholic Church.

He preaches a message of ‘salvation by works’, instead of through the blood of Jesus.

Here is a Bible study that proves the meaning of the temple in 2 Thessalonians 2.

Revelation 11

Futurists claim that John is speaking about a physical temple, when he says to measure the temple, and to designate the gentiles into the outer court.

Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple (naos) of God, the altar, and those who worship there.” Revelation 11:1

The ‘reed like a measuring rod’ is the Word of Elohim, the Little Book of Revelation 10.

The Greek for reed or rod is “kanon” = canon of holy scriptures. Kanon is also translated as rule, or measuring rod.

Elohim was telling Martin Luther, a Catholic monk, to use the Scriptures to determine who was the true church, the Temple of Elohim; and who was the false church.

When Martin Luther and others measured the teachings of the Catholic Church against the Scriptures, they were able to see that it is the false church.

Here is a study about measuring the temple in Revelation 11:1-2

Ezekiel 40

The temple that Ezekiel envisioned has been fulfilled in the true temple of Elohim, one that is not made with human hands.

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?” Acts 7:48-49

God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.” Acts 17:24

Paul told us that we are the temple of Elohim.

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” 1 Corinthians 3:17

“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them.I will be their God,And they shall be My people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16

Zechariah 6:12-13 proclaims that the Branch, Messiah, would build the temple of the Father; which is made without hands.

“And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”

The followers of Messiah are the stones which build up the walls.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,” 1 Peter 2:4-7

The walls of the Holy City of Jerusalem are made up of Jasper, clear as crystal.

“Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;” Revelation 21:11

“And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.” Revelation 21:18

The light of the Father and Son illuminate the temple from within, so that their light shines through the clear walls, through the saints, to illuminate all that is around it.

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” Revelation 21:23

John drives the point home when Jesus proclaims that people who overcome will be a pillar in the temple of Elohim.

He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.” Revelation 3:12

The true tabernacle was made by the Father, not man.

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” Hebrews 8:1

An end times rebuilt Jewish temple with bloody sacrifices would be blasphemous.

Messiah is our High Priest whose blood atoned for all of our sins by His sacrifice.

If they ever do rebuild a temple in Jerusalem and restart bloody sacrifices, it will be a denial of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and a blasphemy to God.

Such a temple could never be called “the temple of God” and Christians should never support one being built.

A Third Rebuilt Temple In Jerusalem Is Not Biblical

Classic Chiliasm

To add...

What the world needs now (in 2020) is a proper eschatology, one that allows for a spiritual understanding of allegorical passages, not a position that forces a literal interpretation from scripture to fit a system. Can you believe some Premillennialists are looking for a 3rd Temple, a rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem, complete with animal sacrifices? Dr. John Gill was a Premillennialist who remains within the bounds of Reformed orthodoxy so let him speak…

Gill on the Temple of Ezekiel 40:

It remains that this must be understood mystically and figuratively of the Gospel church, which is often spoken of as a city and temple, Hebrews 12:22 and which began to have its accomplishment in the first times of the Gospel, immediately after the death and resurrection of Christ; when his disciples had a commission to preach the Gospel to all nations; and who accordingly did, even before the destruction of Jerusalem, and of the material temple, so that Gospel churches were planted in all parts of the world; and especially this was the case, when the Roman empire, called the whole world, became Christian: though the further and greater accomplishment of this vision will be in the latter day; when the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea; when Jews and Gentiles will be converted, and Gospel churches be set up everywhere; so that the Gospel church state, or kingdom of Christ, signified by the great mountain in Daniel 2:35, and by this large city here, will fill the whole earth: and the rather this may be thought to be the design of this vision to represent it, as it follows the prophecies of the Jews’ settlement in their own land; and of the destruction of Gog, or the Turk, attempting to dispossess them; of which in chapters 37-39.

Gill on Ezekiel 43:

all these sacrifices point at the one sacrifice of Christ; which was pure and perfect, and once offered up for the sins of many, and needs no reiteration; only the doctrine of it is to be frequently inculcated in the ministry of the word and ordinances.

From the Intro to Isaiah 66:

The causes of the rejection of the Jews were their unworthy notions of God, as if he was confined to the temple of Jerusalem, and to be pleased with external sacrifices, now both at an end under the Gospel dispensation; a better sacrifice being offered, and a more spiritual worship set up everywhere; which notions are considered, Isaiah 66:1, and because they were set upon their ways and works, and rejected the Gospel of Christ

from The Scripture: The Only Guide in Matters of Faith:

He is the way of access to the Father, nor can any come to God but by him; he is the mediator between God and man, and through him there is access with confidence by the faith of him. He is the way of acceptance with God: we have nothing to render us acceptable unto God; we are black in ourselves with original and actual sin, and are only comely in Christ; our acceptance is in the beloved. God is well pleased with him, and with all that are considered in him; their persons and their sacrifices are acceptable to God through him. He is the way of conveyance of all grace, and the blessings of it to us. All was given originally to him, and to us in him; and from him, and through him we receive it, even out of his fullness, grace for grace; all spiritual blessings are with him, and come to us from him; all grace passes through his hands; the first we have, and all the after-supplies of it; yea, the gift of God, eternal life, is through Jesus Christ our Lord And he is the way to heaven and eternal happiness; he has entered into it with his own blood already, and has opened a way by it for his people, into the holiest of all; he is gone beforehand as their forerunner, and has taken possession of heaven for them; he is now preparing a place for them there, and will come again and take them to himself, and introduce them into his kingdom and glory. from Truth Defended Being an Answer to an Anonymous Pamphlet:

To the sin-offerings and peace-offerings under the law, since these were made to the God of Israel for the people of Israel, whom God loved above all people that were upon the face of the earth, and were typical of that atoning sacrifice, in which indeed were discovered the severest resentment of justice against sin, and yet the clearest evidence of strong love and affections to persons then enemies, and destitute of love to God: Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10) In this both type and antitype agree, that the reconciliation is not of God to men, but for men to God; though this author says, “it is past all dispute, that the party to be reconciled is God;” when it is the very thing in dispute between us. It is no where said of the sacrifices of the law, that God was reconciled by them to the people of Israel; and it is no where said of the sacrifice of Christ, the antitype of them, that God is by it reconciled to his elect; though I am content that God should be said to be reconciled to his elect by the death of Christ, provided no more is meant by it than satisfying of his justice, not a conciliating or procuring his love and favour. The author’s reasoning on the denial of this, that the reconciliation must be made to the house of Israel, or for the God of Israel, or with the sinner or the sin, is so stupid and senseless, that it deserves no consideration.

from Christ a Priest After the Order of Melchizedek:

Another act recorded of him as a priest, is his receiving tithes from Abraham. Christ is our great high priest, by whom we should offer up all our sacrifices to God; and in whom alone they are acceptable to him; and also to him should we prefer our sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving for those many blessings wherewith we are blessed by him; he should have not only a tenth of what we have, but even all we have; we should give him our hearts, and present our bodies a living, holy and acceptable sacrifice to him.

and,

But you will say, Has not Christ performed his priestly office? Does he continue to act as a priest? Has he not finished his work as such? I answer; it is true Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; and he will never be sacrificed more: he was once offered to bear the sins of many, and he will he offered no more: he has offered one sacrifice for sin, and he will offer no more: for he is set down for ever, having done his work: but then the virtue and efficacy of his sacrifice will abide for ever; by it he has put away sin for ever; by it he has brought in everlasting righteousness; a righteousness which will last for ever; by it he has perfected for ever them that are sanctified: as the virtue and efficacy of his sacrifice reached the saints from the foundation of the world: and therefore is said to be the Lamb slain from thence: so it will reach the saints in all ages of the world, to the curl of time, and throughout the endless ages of eternity. Nay further, though he has done sacrificing, yet he has not done interceding for us: now we have an advocate with the Father; now he is pleading the virtue of his sacrifice for us, and this is one branch of his priestly office.

from Attendance in Places of Religious Worship Where the Divine Name is Recorded, Encouraged:

Moreover the altar, and the sacrifices offered on it, were typical of Christ, and memorials of him, and the means of recording the name of the Lord, and causing it to be remembered; the altar was a type of Christ, as before observed; both the altar of burnt offering, and the altar of incense; the one served to put believers in mind of the sacrifice and satisfaction of Christ for sin; and the dolorous sufferings he underwent on that account, under a sense of the wrath of God, and to deliver, his people from it, by bearing it in their room and stead, when he became a whole burnt-offering for them; and the other was of use, to observe unto them the intercession of Christ, founded on his propitiatory sacrifice; through whose much incense, or all prevailing mediation, the prayers of the saints become acceptable unto God, and the blessings of grace are brought down upon them, and applied to them. The various sacrifices offered at the Jewish altar, were typical of the sacrifice of Christ; and were designed to put the sacrificers in mind of it, and to lead their faith to it, without which theirs were unacceptable to God. The lambs of the daily sacrifice, in the morning and evening, were remembrancers of Christ the Lamb of God, who taketh, continually takes away the sins of men, committed by them. So the slaying of the passover-lamb, the burning of the red heifer, with all other sacrifices, whether offered every day, every month, or every year; they all pointed at Christ, and his sacrifice, whereby he has put away sin, and perfected for ever them that are sanctified: and now, by appointing and continuing these, Jehovah caused his name to he remembered; whose perfections were displayed and glorified in the sacrifice of his Son; to which the faith of his people were by these directed.

Yours in the Lord,

"Historicists agree on the following unique concepts:

  • The "Year-Day" principle - In prophetic language, a day of symbolic time represents a year of actual, historic time.
  • The "Time, Times and Half a time," "3 1/2 years," "1260 days", and "42 month" time period, which occurs seven times in Daniel and Revelation, is understood by Historicists to be fulfilled in history.
  • All Historicists believe that the Papacy is that Anti-Christ, the Man of Sin of II Thessalonians 2, and a Beast of Revelation 13.
  • Historicists generally agree Revelation 9 speaks of the Muslim scourge which afflicted Christendom.
  • All Historicists agree that the Book of Revelation prophesies the history of the Church from the Apostolic Era to the future Second Advent of Jesus Christ."

QUESTION: Does The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod believe in the rapture?

ANSWER: The answer to your question depends on what you mean by "the rapture." The English word "rapture" is derived from the Latin translation of the verb "caught up" in 1 Thess. 4:17 (rapiemur).

Lutherans certainly believe what Paul teaches in this passage, namely, that those who are still living on earth when Christ returns visibly on the last day "will be caught up" ("raptured") together with "the dead in Christ" to "meet the Lord in the air."

Some Christians teach, however, that the "rapture" will take place not on the last day but in connection with an "invisible" coming of Christ occurring before a seven-year period of "tribulation" on earth, allowing Christians to "escape" this tribulation and then later return to earth for a literal "1,000 year reign of Christ."

Lutherans do not believe that these teachings are based on a proper understanding of Scripture. Scripture teaches that all Christians will endure varying degrees of "tribulation" until the last day, that Christ will return only once (visibly) to "catch up" ("rapture") all believers, living and dead, into heaven, and that all believers will reign forever with him in heaven.

Lutherans understand the "1,000 years" of Rev. 20:11-15 to be a figurative reference to Christ's reign here and now in the hearts and lives of believers, which will culminate in our reigning with Christ forever in heaven following his return on the last day.

Seventh Day Adventists (Historicists) view on Israel and the end times

Adventist Review Online | How Should Christians View Israel?

The growth of “Christian Zionism” has raised concerns—and questions—among Seventh-day Adventists and other Christians in recent months: How should Christians view Israel, both as a political reality and a prophetic question? Is the modern-day state of Israel a fulfillment of Bible prophecy? And what about the small, but growing, Adventist community in Israel?

Unlike many evangelical churches, the Seventh-day Adventist Church does not support a “dispensational” view of prophecy. Adventism is not awaiting a “secret rapture,” after which tens of thousands of Jews—144,000, to be precise—will be converted and evangelize those “left behind.” The 1948 establishment of the State of Israel, an outgrowth of the Nazi Holocaust in which 6 million Jews were killed, is viewed by Adventists as a political, not a prophetic event. And, again apart from our evangelical friends, Adventism embraces the Bible Sabbath, an institution long preserved and observed by the Jewish people.

Christian Zionist leaders such as John Hagee, founder of the “Christians United” group and author of a New York Times best-selling book supporting Israel called Jerusalem Countdown, deny that their support for Israel is linked to end-time prophetic scenarios: “Our support of Israel has absolutely nothing to do with end times or eschatology,” he told a Washington news conference on July 17. Later in the session, he addressed the audience of an Israeli journalist in attendance: “My message to the people of Israel would be to have hope. The God that founded the State of Israel is going to deliver the State of Israel.”

Historicists! Do you see a future for Israel? What I mean is, does Romans 11 teach that a mass conversion of the Jews will happen before the Second Coming?

Adventists balk on being linked with the theologies of Romanism and Replacement theology but many of their beliefs stem from said theologies that assert the Jews’ rejection of Christ led to Israel’s forfeiture of their promises, which are the grounds for the prophecies concerning their kingdom on earth. The ramification of such theologies is their hyper-spiritualization of the OT prophecies due to their view they can no longer be fulfilled explicitly. The Adventist Bible Commentary and Ellen White are cited below as evidence of the aforesaid.

“When Christ should hang upon the cross of Calvary, Israel’s day as a nation favored and blessed of God would be ended.”1

“Whatever the Jews, as a nation, may do, now or in the time to come, is in no way related to the former promises made to them. With the crucifixion of Christ they forever forfeited their special position as God’s chosen people. Any idea that the return of the Jews to their ancestral home, that is, to the new state of Israel, may in any way be related to Bible prophecy is the product of wishful thinking on the part of misguided, even if sincere, religious enthusiasts, and is without valid Scriptural foundation.”2

In addition to scripture Julia Neuffer’s thesis on: The Gathering of Israel A Historical Study of Early Writings is cited. Her paper can be found on the internet at:

Julia Neuffer’s abridges the conclusions of the early Adventists on the age to come controversy as:

1. The kingdom promises to ancient Israel were conditional.

2. These promises were forfeited through failure to meet the terms.

3. These prophecies picture what might have been if the conditions had been met.

4. Some of these prophecies were fulfilled to the Jews in the past.

5. Some will be fulfilled to “true Israel” in the final reward of the saved.

6. The Old Testament prophecies must be understood in harmony with the inspired interpretation in the New Testament.3

Commencing with the promises to Israel Neuffer returns to the early age to come controversy when she quotes from an editorial by Joshua V. Himes concerning the promises:

“Many of them are made to them [the Jews] conditionally, and the conditions not having been complied with, the promises are not now good to them…. Here [in Jer. 18:7-10] we have the unvarying conditions on which are given all national promises.”4

In more recent times and from the Covenant Theological perspective R. Todd Mangum comments in a footnote in his paper on Supersessionism on Jeremiah 18:

“According to this passage, which is addressed specifically to Israel, there ‘literally’ is no such thing as a completely unconditional covenant. Everyone uses this passage to explain Jonah’s ‘failed prophecy’ to Nineveh, but Jer. 18 specifically says that promised blessings, as well as cursings, contain the presumed conditionality being specified; i.e., the principle works both positively and negatively. Taken ‘literally,’ what prevents this explicit clarification to Israel from applying to the Abrahamic or Davidic covenants? Conversely, if God does not have these covenants in view, then what else could possibly be in view, in a passage warning Israel that the clarifications being spelled out apply specifically to promises ‘concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it’?”5

Most notably, the Adventist’s hermeneutic “line upon line” was conspicuously absent during the early controversy. Any exegesis of Jeremiah chapter 18 cannot omit his chapter 31 and all relevant texts on the matter of Israel’s covenants and properly render any faithful doctrine. In addressing the ultimate disposition of Israel, Jeremiah anticipates that both Judah and the northern tribes called Israel or Ephraim would fail to keep the SC (Sinai Covenant) and God would take matters into his own hands cut a new covenant with them, write his law in their inwards and “forgive their iniquity” and “remember their sin no more” (Jer. 31:31-34). Furthermore, Jeremiah cites God from the Holy Spirit that the promises to Israel are as sure as his perpetual decrees at the creation:

“Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner.” Jeremiah 31:35-38

Jeremiah 31 sheds light on how chapter 18 is to be viewed, which does not support Adventism’s or Covenant theology’s presuppositions concerning God’s covenants. What God had in “view” in Jeremiah 18 related to the “calling” for which Christ exclaimed: “For many are called, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:14.

“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Romans 11:29

All the descendants of Abraham are called, but not all are the chosen elect: “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.” Romans 9:13. The SC was “added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made.” Galatians 3:19. Jeremiah 18 bears out the conditions imposed by the SC on those who were called, while Jeremiah 31 pertains to the remnant and elect of Israel under the NC (New Covenant), those who are chosen and saved: the children of the promise. Paul’s thesis in Romans 9 amplifies Matthew 22:14 and yields correlative revelation of what God had in view in Jeremiah 18:1-10.

What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory...” Romans 9:22-23

This is what is taking place in Jeremiah 18. The presupposition that the promises to the elect of Israel were founded upon conditions to be met violates, “that the purpose of God according to election” stands, “not of works, but of him that calleth.” Romans 9:11.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” Romans 9:15-16

Why Orthodox Puritan (Historicist) Postmillennialism Must Be Accepted:

Puritan Postmillennialism posits that Christ comes after a millennial period of great blessing and advance of the truth and the Gospel.

Why does Puritan Postmillennialism best explain Biblical prophecy?

1) The binding of Satan must refer to the progress of the Gospel because it is reversible. The advance of the Gospel is subject to divinely ordained ebbs and flows. The presence of periods of revival in the history of the church supports this understanding.

2) The 1,000 years must refer to a period of great Gospel advance.

It does not represent the whole New Testament age. It is a comparatively long period which precedes a comparatively short period in which Satan is loosed again for a season and then we have the last day before the eternal state.

It is an appointed and complete period of time (10 x 10 x 10 indicates a prolonged period of time), when Satan’s opposition to the Gospel is limited and coincides with the reign of the saints and comes after many have been martyred for the name of Jesus (Rev 20:4).

It ends before the close of the New Testament age (Rev 20:3,7).

3) The reign of Christ refers to the glorious advance of the cause for which the martyrs died.

Judgment was given unto them. Here, judgment means the vindication of one’s righteous cause. The Lord avenges the deaths of the martyrs.

Daniel 7:21-22

21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

The antichrist who sought to wear them out is destroyed. The judgment is not given to the SAME saints Antichrist persecuted but rather to their spiritual successors. The unprecedented advance of the Gospel cause vindicates them and their cause.

Rev 6:

9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

This takes place during the millennium.

The FULL vindication is at Christ’s second coming

4) The first resurrection is the glorious revival of the Church on Earth (cause for which the martyrs suffered). A period that ends before the end of the NT age. Not a physical resurrection because it can be reversed as it will be for a season.

5) The second resurrection (v. 5) is the resurgence of ungodliness at the end of the millennium that brings in Satan’s little season. This is confined to the “rest” (not resurrection of “all”). After this, Christ comes in judgment.

6) Confirming evidence:

Parallels with Ezekiel 37-48

37: Israel’s revival, Destruction of Gog and Magog, Vision of beautiful temple

Rev 20 -22: Millennium, Destruction of Gog and Magog, Holy City and beautified temple

THEN: The vision of the dry bones brought to life is a parallel to the REVIVAL of the church, the most glorious period of the Gospel.

Destruction of Antichrist in Dan 7:26

26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.

27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

2 Thess 2:8 gives greater weight to the view that this man of sin (the Papacy) will be destroyed by the breath of the spirit of the Christ’s mouth and with the brightness of his coming.

The spirit of His mouth is a reference to Isaiah 11:4

4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

The Word of His Mouth: the Gospel proclaimed and preached will bring the man of sin down: it will end popery.

The future revival will outshine the Reformation of the 15-16th Century because the papacy survived it. It will not survive the breath of Christ’s mouth in the millennium.

Romans 11:12,15,25

Israel’s rejection is not final. The remnant will become a fullness.

12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

They will be brought INTO the Church through the GOSPEL, not separately in a different organization. And it will bring greater blessings still to the Gentiles.

25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Mystery: an unfolding of God’s purposes (i.e. Ephesians 3)

It connects back to Ezekiel 37 and Rev 20! The dry bones brought to life.

Psalm 72:17, 19

17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

For more on the final victory: c.f. Psalm 86:9; 102:16,21; Isaiah 60:8-12,16

The vision of the glorious millennium can be practically seen and tasted by the mind in the words of Malachi:

Malachi 1:11

11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the Lord of hosts.

Daniel 11 - The Latter Day Wars Of The Jewish Nation

The Daniel 11 prophecy is an amazing prophecy that accurately predicts the political maneuvering and events of the powers that fought over and ruled Judea and the Jews starting with the Medo-Persian Empire and finishing through to the time just as Christ arrives on the scene. This prophecy has been 100% fulfilled in the literal sense. I believe that the point of this prophecy is to show that God is in control. He tells us what will happen and it happens. We can be confident in future events to come because of the accuracy of fulfilled prophecy from the past such as in Daniel 11 and many others. Before we do a verse by verse analysis of Daniel 11, let's make a quick summary of the power struggle of Judea between the old and new testament time periods:
1)The old testament leaves off with the Medo-Persia empire in power.
2)Alexander the Great of Greece defeats the Medes and Persians. Greece is now the dominant power.
3)Alexander the Great dies and his kingdom is divided into 4 divisions.
4)The two primary divisions of Greece, being Egypt in the south and Syria in the north, fight many battles back in forth in an ongoing power struggle.
5)The Roman Empire comes onto the scene and eventually becomes the dominant power.
6)Antiochus Epiphanes loots and desecrates the temple.
7)The Maccabean revolt rededicates the temple, and this is celebrated as Hanukkah.
8)John Hycranus defeats the Edomites and forces their conversion to Judaism.
9)The Edomites absorb into Jewish culture and become Jewish leaders.
10)Herod the Great, an Edomite, becomes king of Judea and tries to kill the promised seed of the Messiah. He fails and the new testament takes over from here.
That was a summary, now Daniel 11 breaks down some of these events into greater detail, amazingly before they occur. Just keep in mind that these are very brief descriptions of these events as there is much more detail in the historical record that breaks these events down further. This is just to show the accuracy of the prophecy and the sovereignty of God that brings the prophesies to pass.
