Quick decision-making is not Mr. Biden’s style.

Beneath Joe Biden’s Folksy Demeanor, a Short Fuse and an Obsession With Details

On policy issues, Mr. Biden, 78, takes days or weeks to make up his mind as he examines and second-guesses himself and others.

The president arrives in the Oval Office for a series of scheduled meetings around 9:30 a.m.

his aides say it takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work to prepare him to project an assured demeanor.

During a meeting on March 30 in the Oval Office, the president lashed out at Xavier Becerra, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, for failing to have answers to his questions about the agency’s ability to take care of migrant children,

The president’s evenings include regular calls with his grandchildren, who serve as his lifeline to popular culture and consumer technology.

He grilled his newly appointed coronavirus task force adviser, Jeffrey D. Zients, with questions: How would Americans react to active-duty personnel being deployed onto the streets? Had anything like it been done before? How big was the scale of the effort, and how fast could it be scaled up?

Mr. Biden is usually back in the residence by 7 p.m. for dinner with the first lady.

What a relief to have a leader who takes time to review and discuss before decisions.

And demands that the people under him actually have the information he needs and some ideas for solutions to problems.

Yes he is still trying to decide if the border crisis is a crisis and if the VP that he assigned to look into it is actually going to do anything. He is also trying to decide what to do about the Russian hack of the gas pipeline and the fact that Iran is sponsoring terrorist actions against Israel while asking him to give them more money so they can sponsor more terrorist activities and the activities of China and their threat to invade Tiapei and what to do about the economy that is not reacting the way he had hoped it would and the way the economists said it should, and then there is his darn dog that keeps biting people. Maybe he can at least come up with a decision on the dog by the 4th of July, the rest will just have to wait.

As opposed to firing aides who don't align with his gut instinct.

Mr. Biden did not want to be spared any incremental detail. After the president took office, his defense secretary deployed 1,100 troops in five teams of nurses, vaccinators and other medical staff. He eventually deployed 4,000 more.

On Jan. 21, Mr. Biden’s first full day in office, he met with his coronavirus team again, including Dr. Anthony S. Fauci and Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, in the State Room, where the group presented him with what it called the “comprehensive plan.”

After the meeting, he pulled Mr. Zients aside and gave him a set of instructions: “Bring me the news, good, bad and ugly. It’s going to have big moments and not so good moments, and I want to know about every one of them,” the president said. “I want the details.”

Imagine that? A chief executive who demands details and then deploys resources to save American lives.

I prefer complex issues be dealt with after deliberation rather than impulsiveness.

One who actually listens to his advisor's advice prior to making a decision is refreshing as well. Previous admin treated advisors predominately as merely decorative because Trump really knew more about their specialty than they did anyway.

After the last guy who was terminally incurious, paid no attention to detail or nuance and lashed out and fired anyone who dared question his authority or countered his opinions, this is a huge welcome change.

What I find it funny about this thread is that, you put an article from NY Times. But an hour later in the thread White House releases Biden's and Harris' tax returns, "continuing an almost uninterrupted tradition" you write this about NY Times

The same NY Times who brought us the Russia Dossier? They lack any credibility. But then some people just assume Trump is guilty of something because that is what they want to believe.

Regarding the article itself, I am glad a president take his time, grill his advisor for more information before making decision.

Haven't you figured out how easy it is? A source is credible if the specific article lines up with my already held beliefs. Mistakes, corrections, and retractions are also CommuMarxist unacceptables.

Missed part of the quote : "according to two people familiar with the exchange."

Guess anonymous sources are back to being acceptable, kinda the mirror image of deficits suddenly mattering again.

Hey, this applies to both sides. Want evidence? Look around.

As an aside, when not dealing in partisan issues the NYT has some of the best writers around. Very lean writing, very professional delivery. The subject shines, not the writer. We all need more of this and less of the political claptrap IMO.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the President of the United States taking the necessary time to make important issues, consult with his advisors, listen to the experts, and not rush into any hasty decisions that could come back to bite him later. It's certainly refreshing compared to his predecessor who couldn't be bothered to read Intelligence reports and had a 92% turnover during his presidency.

I'd feel better if his preferred advisors were not his grandchildren, and he did spend a whole day at work. But none of this matters to those who will laud this failure of a president, no matter what he does.

I'd feel better if his preferred advisors were not his grandchildren,

That is a lie. Provide proof his preferred advisors are his grandchildren.

Zients and Becerra are not his grandchildren.

and he did spend a whole day at work.
There is no evidence he does not spend the day working.

He certainly is not tweeting all the time and watching Fox news all day, and reading/posting on Facebook.

But none of this matters to those who will laud this failure of a president, no matter what he does.

Offer truthful complaints and reasonable criticisms.

Personally, I had thought that the people telling him what to do were Valery Jarrett, Susan Rice, and a few others.

But then came the Original Post here with the reprint of an article from the New York Times saying that he turned to his grandchildren for guidance on some matters of importance to public policy.

Therefore, you need to take up your concern over the "lie" with the source. I was merely reacting to the news, assuming it to be correct.

This part? Consulting with his much younger grandchildren about popular culture and consumer technology is a problem for you? It seems like they would be a good source about the topics.

The president’s evenings include regular calls with his grandchildren, who serve as his lifeline to popular culture and consumer technology.
