Oh, speaking of number of laws. We are suppose to obey the laws of those in authority over us. It isn't 613, in America congress has enacted 30,000 laws or statues, try to keep up with all of them.

Well that's funny and cleaver, and subtle and all, and does completely deflect for the context of my post. But comparing God's Commandments to US Law doesn't make the false preaching that God saved Abraham's Children from Slavery and Bondage in Egypt, only to place an impossible burden of Laws on their necks, True. And yet, this is the very foundation of mainstream religious philosophy of this world. I can see why you wouldn't want to have any kind of honest, substantive discussion about this popular doctrine. Better to just deflect and move along as you did.

Studyman, I guess your don't understand I agree with you.
The reason I'm moving on is I have accomplished what I set out to do, and it was as much a family issue as forum debate on Saturday sabbath, dietary non sense, and a host of other rules that have nothing to do with being a Christian. Most laws are made to protect people, sometimes from themselves.
I've seen more scripture posted in these threads that had nothing to do with the sabbath issue and were more meant as a poor choice to guilt trip others, something the SDA has mastered. Before retirement my wife was a lawyer, that's why she made the comment and I posted it. It was never meant to discredit your beliefs or opinions.
Reality is most knowledgeable Adventist won't engage these debates because some are smart enough to know they can't win.
So, I will leave you with my best wishes and pray God blesses you.

You keep making statements that are really unfounded. I see a ton of posts on these forums from SDA’s debating every issue with supporting scripture, you have brought . I know you do not like SDA’s but it’s really unfortunate to make claims that are just not valid.

I am amused by this statement to be honest. What did you set out to do and what did you accomplish? If you set out to allow us to share Gods' Word with you that disagrees with your words then I agree with you. If your moving on it is up to you of course and thanks for the discussion.

If someone has convinced you that the God of Abraham Created instructions for HIS People that were not "for them", or was "nonsense" or not in their best interest, then we certainly don't agree. The First and Greatest Commandment given for God's People is to Love the Lord thy God. Judging HIM as some inept, foolish god, that created LAWS so irrelevant, so egregious, so many in number, that it was impossible to walk in them, is not only an insidious falsehood, but places the men who defend this religious philosophy in the category Paul mentioned in Romans 1.

Rom. 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

The belief that Jesus walked a PATH that "has nothing to do with being a true christian" is absolutely Absurd RB. And yet, that is exactly what you just said. That is why I asked you to take a big breath, stand back and actually read what you are teaching. I present these things to you, not out of malice, or pride, but out of Love as a brother who was also once trapped and led astray by these same religious philosophies of men. That is the reason why I engaged in a discussion with you in the first place.

Again, I am not SDA. So she couldn't discredit beliefs I don't have. In my view, this religious franchise is no different than the one you have adopted. They are all just religious businesses after the model of the Catholic Church, all competing for contributing members so they can "grow" and "do good" in their own eyes. Which is just a revised version of the Levitical Priesthood, with it's preachers in the Chief seats of the house, and their Shrines of Worship made of wood and stone after the religious traditions of men, and Rudiments of this World. Jesus didn't teach any of this. You can not find even one place where HE promoted religious business, in His Name. In fact, the only time Jesus got physically angry was when the mainstream religion of His Time were selling atonement sacrifices on one of His Feasts.

Have they snared people with good intent? No doubt they have, that is why there are SO MANY warnings, not about Islam, or Atheists, or drug dealers, but warning after warning after warning about religious men who call Jesus Lord, Lord.

But sadly, just as Eve, and now you, many have been convinced God's instruction is "nonsense", and not for them, so also have "many" been convinced God's Warning's are also "nonsense", and not for them. But it's not HIS fault if a man doesn't "believe" HIM. After all, it is written many times that God "will render to every man according to his deeds"

This is the discussion I am here to engage in. satan uses many little lies to deceive, which by themselves seems harmless. "God placed 613 Laws on the backs of His People HE saved from Egypt". But this is just one of hundreds. Together they create a religion which causes folks to belittle God and turn against His Word, it's purpose in the first place.

And here you are RB, preaching to the world that the "Way of the Lord" Jesus walked in is "nonsense", and has nothing to do with being a "Christian". You didn't learn this from God's Word, or His Spirit. I say this because it's true, not to offend. If your fly was open, I would tell you about that as well.

Reality is most knowledgeable Adventist won't engage these debates because some are smart enough to know they can't win.

I am not SDA, but I have asked you questions and have wanted such a debate with you, and you have refused to engage.

In all due respect, you have shown the exact same refusal to examine and discuss scriptures. I do regard the Path Jesus Walked as Holy though. Including God's Commandments, all of them as well as His other LAWS that HE had "written for my Sake no doubt" as Paul teaches. I was convinced once, as you are, that I had the knowledge, foresight and power to Judge God and HIS instructions. But have since escaped such self exalted nonsense. As a result, I now see clearly why the Christ inspired it to be written "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

I'm not trying to convert you to any religious franchise. I'm simply pointing out the difference between what is written, and the religious Philosophies of men.

We all have the same Choice, as it is written.

Duet. 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

And again;

Jn. 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

You can ask me any question and I will answer if I know, and tell you if I don't. I will engage in an honest examination of Scriptures any time with you. It's not about one of us winning with me. It's about Biblical Truth.

So, I will leave you with my best wishes, hoping to hear from you again.

I see a ton of posts on these forums from SDA’s debating every issue with supporting scripture, you have brought .

What did the Early Church Fathers say about the Sabbath before the Council of Nicaea?

The Didache

1. But every Lord’s day do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure.
(Didache Chapter XIV.11 —Christian Assembly on the Lord’s Day. 14 [A.D. 70]).

The Letter of Barnabas

Since, therefore, the days are evil, and Satan possesses the power of this world, we ought to give heed to ourselves, and diligently inquire into the ordinances of the Lord. Fear and patience, then, are helpers of our faith; and long-suffering and continence are things which fight on our side. While these remain pure in what respects the Lord, Wisdom, Understanding, Science, and Knowledge rejoice along with them. For He hath revealed to us by all the prophets that He needs neither sacrifices, nor burnt-offerings, nor oblations, saying thus, “What is the multitude of your sacrifices unto Me, saith the Lord? I am full of burnt-offerings, and desire not the fat of lambs, and the blood of bulls and goats, not when ye come to appear before Me: for who hath required these things at your hands? Tread no more My courts, not though ye bring with you fine flour. Incense is a vain abomination unto Me, and your new moons and sabbaths I cannot endure.” He has therefore abolished these things, that the new law of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is without the yoke of necessity, might have a human oblation(The Epistle of Barnabas 1 Chapter II.—The Jewish sacrifices are now abolished.)

Further, He says to them, “Your new moons and your Sabbath I cannot endure.” Ye perceive how He speaks: Your present Sabbaths are not acceptable to Me, but that is which I have made, [namely this,] when, giving rest to all things, I shall make a beginning of the eighth day, that is, a beginning of another world. Wherefore, also, we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead. And when He had manifested Himself, He ascended into the heavens.(The Epistle of Barnabas Chapter XV.—The false and the true Sabbath. [A.D. 74]).

Ignatius of Antioch

If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death—whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master(Letter to the Magnesians(shorter) Chapter IX.—Let us live with Christ [A.D. 110]).

During the Sabbath He continued under the earth in the tomb in which Joseph of Arimathæa had laid Him. At the dawning of the Lord’s day He arose from the dead, according to what was spoken by Himself, “As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of man also be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” The day of the preparation, then, comprises the passion; the Sabbath embraces the burial; the Lord’s Day contains the resurrection(The Epistle of Ignatius to the Trallians Longer Versions. Chapter IX.—Reference to the history of Christ.)

Justin Martyr

The Lawgiver is present, yet you do not see Him; to the poor the Gospel is preached, the blind see, yet you do not understand. You have now need of a second circumcision, though you glory greatly in the flesh. The new law requires you to keep perpetual sabbath, and you, because you are idle for one day, suppose you are pious, not discerning why this has been commanded you: and if you eat unleavened bread, you say the will of God has been fulfilled. The Lord our God does not take pleasure in such observances: if there is any perjured person or a thief among you, let him cease to be so; if any adulterer, let him repent; then he has kept the sweet and true sabbaths of God. If any one has impure hands, let him wash and be pure.(Dialogue with Trypho the Jew Chapter XII.—The Jews violate the eternal law, and interpret ill that of Moses.)

For we too would observe the fleshly circumcision, and the Sabbaths, and in short all the feasts, if we did not know for what reason they were enjoined you,—namely, on account of your transgressions and the hardness of your hearts. For if we patiently endure all things contrived against us by wicked men and demons, so that even amid cruelties unutterable, death and torments, we pray for mercy to those who inflict such things upon us, and do not wish to give the least retort to any one, even as the new Lawgiver commanded us: how is it, Trypho, that we would not observe those rites which do not harm us, —I speak of fleshly circumcision, and Sabbaths, and feasts?(Dialogue with Trypho the Jew Chapter XVIII.—Christians would observe the law, if they did not know why it was instituted. [A.D. 155]).

And we afterwards continually remind each other of these things. And the wealthy among us help the needy; and we always keep together; and for all things wherewith we are supplied, we bless the Maker of all through His Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Ghost. And on the day called Sunday,1 all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succours the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need. But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.(First Apology Chapter LXVII.—Weekly worship of the Christians. [A.D. 155]).

“Wherefore, Trypho, I will proclaim to you, and to those who wish to become proselytes, the divine message which I heard from that man. Do you see that the elements are not idle, and keep no Sabbaths? Remain as you were born. For if there was no need of circumcision before Abraham, or of the observance of Sabbaths, of feasts and sacrifices, before Moses; no more need is there of them now, after that, according to the will of God, Jesus Christ the Son of God has been born without sin, of a virgin sprung from the stock of Abraham. For when Abraham himself was in uncircumcision, he was justified and blessed by reason of the faith which he reposed in God, as the Scripture tells. Moreover, the Scriptures and the facts themselves compel us to admit that He received circumcision for a sign, and not for righteousness.(The Second Apology of Justin for the Christians Addressed to the Roman Senate. Chapter XXIII.—The opinion of the Jews regarding the law does an injury to God.)

“As, then, circumcision began with Abraham, and the Sabbath and sacrifices and offerings and feasts with Moses, and it has been proved they were enjoined on account of the hardness of your people’s heart, so it was necessary, in accordance with the Father’s will, that they should have an end in Him who was born of a virgin, of the family of Abraham and tribe of Judah, and of David; in Christ the Son of God, who was proclaimed as about to come to all the world, to be the everlasting law and the everlasting covenant, even as the forementioned prophecies show.(The Second Apology of Justin for the Christians Addressed to the Roman Senate. Chapter XLIII.—He concludes that the law had an end in Christ, who was born of the Virgin.)

Tertullian

“[L]et him who contends that the Sabbath is still to be observed as a balm of salvation, and circumcision on the eighth day . . . teach us that, for the time past, righteous men kept the Sabbath or practiced circumcision, and were thus rendered ‘friends of God.’ For if circumcision purges a man, since God made Adam uncircumcised, why did he not circumcise him, even after his sinning, if circumcision purges? . . . Therefore, since God originated Adam uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, consequently his offspring also, Abel, offering him sacrifices, uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, was by him [God] commended [Gen. 4:1–7, Heb. 11:4]. . . . Noah also, uncircumcised—yes, and unobservant of the Sabbath—God freed from the deluge. For Enoch too, most righteous man, uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, he translated from this world, who did not first taste death in order that, being a candidate for eternal life, he might show us that we also may, without the burden of the law of Moses, please God”(An Answer to the Jews Chapter II.—The Law Anterior to Moses. [A.D. 203]).

It follows, accordingly, that, in so far as the abolition of carnal circumcision and of the old law is demonstrated as having been consummated at its specific times, so also the observance of the Sabbath is demonstrated to have been temporary. For the Jews say, that from the beginning God sanctified the seventh day, by resting on it from all His works which He made; and that thence it was, likewise, that Moses said to the People: “Remember the day of the sabbaths, to sanctify it: every servile work ye shall not do therein, except what pertaineth unto life.” Whence we (Christians) understand that we still more ought to observe a sabbath from all “servile work” always, and not only every seventh day, but through all time. And through this arises the question for us, what sabbath God willed us to keep? For the Scriptures point to a sabbath eternal and a sabbath temporal. For Isaiah the prophet says, “Your sabbaths my soul hateth;” and in another place he says, “My sabbaths ye have profaned.”9 Whence we discern that the temporal sabbath is human, and the eternal sabbath is accounted divine; concerning which He predicts through Isaiah: “And there shall be,” He says, “month after month, and day after day, and sabbath after sabbath; and all flesh shall come to adore in Jerusalem, saith the Lord;” which we understand to have been fulfilled in the times of Christ, when “all flesh”—that is, every nation—“came to adore in Jerusalem” God the Father, through Jesus Christ His Son, as was predicted through the prophet: “Behold, proselytes through me shall go unto Thee.” Thus, therefore, before this temporal sabbath, there was withal an eternal sabbath foreshown and foretold; just as before the carnal circumcision there was withal a spiritual circumcision foreshown. In short, let them teach us, as we have already premised, that Adam observed the sabbath; or that Abel, when offering to God a holy victim, pleased Him by a religious reverence for the sabbath; or that Enoch, when translated, had been a keeper of the sabbath; or that Noah the ark-builder observed, on account of the deluge, an immense sabbath; or that Abraham, in observance of the sabbath, offered Isaac his son; or that Melchizedek in his priesthood received the law of the sabbath

But the Jews are sure to say, that ever since this precept was given through Moses, the observance has been binding. Manifest accordingly it is, that the precept was not eternal nor spiritual, but temporary, which would one day cease. In short, so true is it that it is not in the exemption from work of the sabbath—that is, of the seventh day—that the celebration of this solemnity is to consist, that Joshua the son of Nun, at the time that he was reducing the city Jericho by war, stated that he had received from God a precept to order the People that priests should carry the ark of the testament of God seven days, making the circuit of the city; and thus, when the seventh day’s circuit had been performed, the walls of the city would spontaneously fall. Which was so done; and when the space of the seventh day was finished, just as was predicted, down fell the walls of the city. Whence it is manifestly shown, that in the number of the seven days there intervened a sabbath-day. For seven days, whencesoever they may have commenced, must necessarily include within them a sabbath-day; on which day not only must the priests have worked, but the city must have been made a prey by the edge of the sword by all the people of Israel. Nor is it doubtful that they “wrought servile work,” when, in obedience to God’s precept, they drave the preys of war. For in the times of the Maccabees, too, they did bravely in fighting on the sabbaths, and routed their foreign foes, and recalled the law of their fathers to the primitive style of life by fighting on the sabbaths. Nor should I think it was any other law which they thus vindicated, than the one in which they remembered the existence of the prescript touching “the day of the sabbaths.” Whence it is manifest that the force of such precepts was temporary, and respected the necessity of present circumstances; and that it was not with a view to its observance in perpetuity that God formerly gave them such a law.(An Answer to the Jews Chapter IV.—Of the Observance of the Sabbath.)

Therefore, since it is manifest that a sabbath temporal was shown, and a sabbath eternal foretold; a circumcision carnal foretold, and a circumcision spiritual pre-indicated; a law temporal and a law eternal formally declared; sacrifices carnal and sacrifices spiritual foreshown; it follows that, after all these precepts had been given carnally, in time preceding, to the people Israel, there was to supervene a time whereat the precepts of the ancient Law and of the old ceremonies would cease, and the promise3 of the new law, and the recognition of spiritual sacrifices, and the promise of the New Testament, supervene;4 while the light from on high would beam upon us who were sitting in darkness, and were being detained in the shadow of death.5 And so there is incumbent on us a necessity6 binding us, since we have premised that a new law was predicted by the prophets, and that not such as had been already given to their fathers at the time when He led them forth from the land of Egypt,7 to show and prove, on the one hand, that that old Law has ceased, and on the other, that the promised new law is now in operation.

And, indeed, first we must inquire whether there be expected a giver of the new law, and an heir of the new testament, and a priest of the new sacrifices, and a purger of the new circumcision, and an observer of the eternal sabbath, to suppress the old law, and institute the new testament, and offer the new sacrifices, and repress the ancient ceremonies, and suppress8 the old circumcision together with its own sabbath, and announce the new kingdom which is not corruptible. Inquire, I say, we must, whether this giver of the new law, observer of the spiritual sabbath, priest of the eternal sacrifices, eternal ruler of the eternal kingdom, be come or no: that, if he is already come, service may have to be rendered him; if he is not yet come, he may have to be awaited, until by his advent it be manifest that the old Law’s precepts are suppressed, and that the beginnings of the new law ought to arise. And, primarily, we must lay it down that the ancient Law and the prophets could not have ceased, unless He were come who was constantly announced, through the same Law and through the same prophets, as to come.(An Answer to the Jews Chapter VI.—Of the Abolition and the Abolisher of the Old Law. [A.D. 203]).

But you, many of you, also under pretence sometimes of worshipping the heavenly bodies, move your lips in the direction of the sunrise. In the same way, if we devote Sun-day to rejoicing, from a far different reason than Sun-worship, we have some resemblance to those of you who devote the day of Saturn to ease and luxury, though they too go far away from Jewish ways, of which indeed they are ignorant.(Apology Chapter XVI.)

Part 2:

Constitutions of the holy apostles

But from the even of the fifth day till [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]-crowing break your fast when it is daybreak of the first day of the week, which is the Lord’s day.(Book V. Sec. III.—On Feast Days and Fast Days – Concerning the Watching All the Night of the Great Sabbath, and Concerning the Day of the Resurrection. XIX)

But assemble yourselves together every day, morning and evening, singing psalms and praying in the Lord’s house: in the morning saying the sixty-second Psalm, and in the evening the hundred and fortieth, but principally on the Sabbath-day. And on the day of our Lord’s resurrection, which is the Lord’s day, meet more diligently, sending praise to God that made the universe by Jesus, and sent Him to us, and condescended to let Him suffer, and raised Him from the dead.(Book II. Sec. VII.—On Assembling in the Church. That Every Christian Ought to Frequent the Church Diligently Both Morning and Evening LIX ).

Origen

If it be objected to us on this subject that we ourselves are accustomed to observe certain days, as for example the Lord’s day, the Preparation, the Passover, or Pentecost, I have to answer, that to the perfect Christian, who is ever in his thoughts, words, and deeds serving his natural Lord, God the Word, all his days are the Lord’s, and he is always keeping the Lord’s day.(Origen Against Celsus. Book 8 Chapter XXII.)

Peter, Archbishop of Alexandria

No one shall find fault with us for observing the fourth day of the week, and the preparation, on which it is reasonably enjoined us to fast according to the tradition. On the fourth day, indeed, because on it the Jews took counsel for the betrayal of the Lord; and on the sixth, because on it He himself suffered for us. But the Lord’s day we celebrate as a day of joy, because on it He rose again, on which day we have received it for a custom not even to bow the knee.(The Canonical Epistle Canon XV.)

Cyprian

For because the eighth day, that is, the first day after the Sabbath, was to be that on which the Lord should rise again, and should quicken us, and give us circumcision of the spirit, the eighth day, that is, the first day after the Sabbath, and the Lord’s day, went before in the figure; which figure ceased when by and by the truth came, and spiritual circumcision was given to us.
(Epistle LVIII.2 To Fidus, on the Baptism of Infants. 4)

Victorinus

“The sixth day [Friday] is called parasceve, that is to say, the preparation of the kingdom. . . . On this day also, on account of the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ, we make either a station to God or a fast. On the seventh day he rested from all his works, and blessed it, and sanctified it. On the former day we are accustomed to fast rigorously, that on the Lord’s day we may go forth to our bread with giving of thanks. And let the parasceve become a rigorous fast, lest we should appear to observe any Sabbath with the Jews . . . which Sabbath he [Christ] in his body abolished”(The Creation of the World [A.D. 300]).

This sixth day is called parasceve,5 that is to say, the preparation of the kingdom. For He perfected Adam, whom He made after His image and likeness. But for this reason He completed His works before He created angels and fashioned man, lest perchance they should falsely assert that they had been His helpers. On this day also, on account of the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ, we make either a station to God, or a fast. On the seventh day He rested from all His works, and blessed it, and sanctified it. On the former day we are accustomed to fast rigorously, that on the Lord’s day we may go forth to our bread with giving of thanks. And let the parasceve become a rigorous fast, lest we should appear to observe any Sabbath with the Jews, which Christ Himself, the Lord of the Sabbath, says by His prophets that “His soul hateth;”1 which Sabbath He in His body abolished, although, nevertheless, He had formerly Himself commanded Moses that circumcision should not pass over the eighth day, which day very frequently happens on the Sabbath, as we read written in the Gospel.(On the Creation of the World p4 )

Eusebius of Caesarea

“They [the early saints of the Old Testament] did not care about circumcision of the body, neither do we [Christians]. They did not care about observing Sabbaths, nor do we. They did not avoid certain kinds of food, neither did they regard the other distinctions which Moses first delivered to their posterity to be observed as symbols; nor do Christians of the present day do such things”(Church History 1:4:8 [A.D. 312]).

“[T]he day of his [Christ’s] light . . . was the day of his resurrection from the dead, which they say, as being the one and only truly holy day and the Lord’s day, is better than any number of days as we ordinarily understand them, and better than the days set apart by the Mosaic law for feasts, new moons, and Sabbaths, which the apostle [Paul] teaches are the shadow of days and not days in reality”(Proof of the Gospel 4:16:186 [A.D. 319]).

“For as the name Christians is intended to indicate this very idea, that a man, by the knowledge and doctrine of Christ, is distinguished by modesty and justice, by patience and a virtuous fortitude, and by a profession of piety towards the one and only true and supreme God; all this no less studiously cultivated by them than by us. They did not, therefore, regard circumcision, nor observe the Sabbath, neither do we; neither do we abstain from certain foods, nor regard other injunctions, which Moses subsequently delivered to be observed in types and symbols, because such things as these do not belong to Christians.”(Eusebius Ecclesiastical History, Book 1, Chapter 5 (c. 315 A.D.):)

“The Ebionites cherished low and mean opinions of Christ. For they considered Him a plain and common man, and justified only by His advances in virtue, and that He was born of the Virgin Mary, by natural generation. With them the observance of the law was altogether necessary, as if they could not be saved, only by faith in Christ and a corresponding life. These, indeed, thought on the one hand that all of the epistles of the apostles ought to be rejected, calling him an apostate from the law, but on the other, only using the gospel according to the Hebrews, they esteem the others as of little value. They also observe the Sabbath and other disciplines of the Jews, just like them, but on the other hand, they also celebrate the Lord’s days very much like us, in commemoration of His resurrection.”(Eusebius Ecclesiastical History, Book 3, Chapter 27 (c. 315 A.D.):)

What did the Early Church Fathers say about the Sabbath before the Council of Nicaea?.

For me your posting early apostate sources outside of the bible in your last two posts in order to support your view of breaking Gods' law (4th commandment) is not biblical. The sources you quote are not my church fathers and I do not consider them as such with many of those you listed being considered as false teachers my many. That is not a good platform to put your trust in over the scriptures. What was the History of the earlier Church before the Council of Nicaea in regards to Gods' 4th commandment Sabbath? I think this is a good question though and will add a few posts here on the topic as the change from Sabbath to Sunday for most of the Christian Church was a gradual one in fulfillment of the prophecy of Daniel 7:25.

The Christians during the apostolic era, from about 35 to 100 A.D., kept Sabbath on the designated seventh day of the week. For the first 300 years of Christian history, when the Roman emperors regarded themselves as gods, Christianity became an “illegal religion,” and God’s people were scattered abroad (Acts 8:1). Judaism, however, was regarded at that time as “legal,” as long as they obeyed Roman laws. Thus, during the apostolic era, Christians found it convenient to let the Roman authorities think of them as Jews, which gained them legitimacy with the Roman government.

However, when the Jews rebelled against Rome, the Romans put down their rebellion by destroying Jerusalem in A.D. 70 and again in A.D. 135. Obviously, the Roman government’s suppression of the Jews made it increasingly uncomfortable for Christians to be thought of as Jewish. At that time, Sunday was the rest day of the Roman Empire, whose religion was Mithraism, a form of sun worship. Since Sabbath observance is visible to others, some Christians in the early second century sought to distance themselves from Judaism by observing a different day, thus “blending in” to the society around them.

During the Empire-wide Christian persecutions under Nero, Maximin, Diocletian, and Galerius, Sabbath-keeping Christians were hunted down, tortured, and, for sport, often used for entertainment in the Colosseum.

When Emperor Constantine I—a pagan sun-worshipper—came to power in A.D. 313, he legalized Christianity and made the first Sunday-keeping law. His infamous Sunday enforcement law of March 7, A.D. 321, reads as follows:

“On the venerable Day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed.” (Codex Justinianus 3.12.3, trans. Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church, 5th ed. (New York, 1902), 3:380, note 1.)

The Sunday law was latter officially confirmed by the Roman Papacy. The Council of Laodicea in A.D. 364 decreed,

“Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday but shall work on that day; but the Lord’s day they shall especially honour, and, as being Christians, shall, if possible, do no work on that day. If, however, they are found Judaizing, they shall be shut out from Christ” (Strand, op. cit., citing Charles J. Hefele, A History of the Councils of the Church, 2 [Edinburgh, 1876] 316).

Cardinal Gibbons, in Faith of Our Fathers, 92nd ed., p. 89, freely admits, “You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we [the Catholic Church] never sanctify.”

Again, “The Catholic Church, … by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday” (The Catholic Mirror, official publication of James Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893).

“Protestants do not realize that by observing Sunday, they accept the authority of the spokesperson of the Church, the Pope” (Our Sunday Visitor, February 5, 1950).

“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [Saturday Sabbath to Sunday] was her act... And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things” (H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons).

The Catholic Church claims that “the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact” (Catholic Record of London, Ontario Sept 1, 1923).

So this change was started gradually under pagan Rome (although pagan Rome did not change the Sabbath in Christianity) under Constantine first as a civil law (see post # 2 linked for historical records). When on March 7, 321, however, Roman Emperor Constantine I issued a civil decree making Sunday a day of rest

While established only in civil law rather than religious principle, the Church welcomed the development as a means by which Christians could the more easily attend Sunday worship and observe Christian rest. At Laodicea also, the Church encouraged Christians to make use of the day for Christian rest where possible, without ascribing to it any of the regulation of Mosaic Law, and indeed anathematizing Hebrew observance on the Sabbath. The civil law and its effects made possible a pattern in Church life that has been imitated throughout the centuries in many places and cultures, wherever possible. {Wiki}

In those early times the Church only included the Roman Catholic Church of the west and the Eastern Orthodox Church (EOC) ) which the Romans Catholic church eventually separated from (the EOC still keeps God's seventh day Sabbath today).

Anyhow some time latter we see the continued departure of the Roman Catholic Church from scripture in favor of man made teachings and traditions which led to the great reformation which much of Protestantism has its origin today. Hence the unbiblical claim to "Sunday" being "the Lords day" and the replacement of the true Christian Sabbath of God's 4th commandment being handed down to Christianity today.

more to come...

THE GRADUAL HISTORICAL CHANGE OF GOD'S 4th COMMANDMENT TO SUNDAY WORSHIP.

Historically, Constantine did not change the day of worship as many claim. According to the historical records, Constantine made a civil Sunday law that the Roman Catholic Church adopted in order to practice and promote Sunday worship over the Sabbath of God's 4th commandment...

First Sunday Law enacted by Emperor Constantine - March, 321 A.D.

On the venerable Day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed. In the country, however, persons engaged in agriculture may freely and lawfully continue their pursuits; because it often happens that another day is not so suitable for grain-sowing or for vine-planting; lest by neglecting the proper moment for such operations the bounty of heaven should be lost. (Given the 7th day of March, Crispus and Constantine being consuls each of them for the second time [A.D. 321].)” Source: Codex Justinianus, lib. 3, tit. 12, 3; trans. in Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church, Vol.3 (5th ed.; New York: Scribner, 1902), p.380, note 1.

Now a professed Christian, Constantine nevertheless remained a devout sun worshipper. “The sun was universally celebrated as the invincible guide and protector of Constantine,” notes Edward Gibbon in his classic Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, ch. xx, par. 3.

Constantine even printed coins which “bore on the one side the letters of the name of Christ, on the other the figure of the sun god.” Arthur P. Stanley, History of the Eastern Church, lect. vi, par. 14.

Again, Constantine’s promotion of Sunday observance was part of his definite strategy to combine paganism with Christianity: “The retention of the old pagan name of dies Solis, or 'Sunday,' for the weekly Christian festival, is in great measure owing to the union of pagan and Christian sentiment with which the first day of the week was recommended by Constantine to his subjects, pagan and Christian alike, as the ‘venerable day of the Sun.’” – Stanley’s History of the Eastern Church, p. 184.

In spite of the rising popularity of Sunday sacredness, Church historian Socrates Scholasticus (5th century) wrote: “For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries [of the Lord's Supper] on the Sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this.” – Socrates Scholasticus, Ecclesiastical History, Book 5, ch. 22.

Another historian also confirmed this by stating, “The people of Constantinople, and almost everywhere, assemble together on the Sabbath, as well as on the first day of the week, which custom is never observed at Rome or at Alexandria.” – Sozomen, Ecclesiastical History, Book 7, ch. 19. Thus even in the 5th century, Sabbath keeping was universally prevalent (except in Rome and Alexandria) along with Sunday keeping. Many Christians kept both days, but as the centuries wore on, Sunday keeping grew in prominence and especially within Roman Catholic territories.

In 330 A.D., Constantine moved his capital from Rome to Constantinople (modern Istanbul), thus preparing the way for the Roman Catholic Popes to reign in Rome as the successors of Constantine. As the Papal Church grew in power, it opposed Sabbath observance in favour of Sunday sacredness and made the day change official in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 363-364). Constantine's law had now been fully integrated into the Papal Church and the final step of the Sabbath to Sunday change was complete.

So around the year A.D. 364, the Catholic Church outlawed Sabbath keeping in the Council of Laodicea when they decreed 59 Canon laws. The following is the relevant Canon law: Canon XXIX:Christians must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honouring the Lord's Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ.” (Percival Translation).

Four hundred years after the death of Christ and one hundred years after Constantine's linking of Church and State by his Sunday law edict, Rome and Alexandria were the only places in the world where many of the Christians kept only Sunday and not the true Sabbath. Why was it that Rome and Alexandria were also the first locations that Sunday worship began? Because this is where the pagan practices of Babylon eventually landed after it was conquered. And what was the dominant pagan practice that the Babylonian priests brought with them? Sun worship which was done on Sun-day! See the history of Sunday worship for more detail.

So one can understand why Rome and Alexandria did not bother to keep the true Sabbath as they had not done so for 200 years. Throughout the entire history of the changeover from Sabbath to Sunday, Rome and Alexandria had worked together. Alexandria provided the philosophical reasons for the changes and Rome provided the decrees and anathemas. Constantine's help was given only to the worldly Church leaders at Rome and those Christians that resisted the errors that were being introduced into the Church met with his opposition. “Unite with the bishop of Rome or be destroyed,” was Constantine's position.

Great as were the favors which Constantine showed to the church, they were only for that strong, close-knit, hierarchically organized portion that called itself Catholic. The various [so-called] heretical sects could look for no bounty from his hands.” – Williston Walker, A History of the Christian Church, page 105.

The change of the Sabbath to Sunday was totally completed by the seventh century as the Popes consolidating their enormous power persecuted all who resisted their innovations. Did Satan use Constantine to play a key part in his plan to change the Sabbath to his day being Sunday? The answer is clear! From sun worship 2000 B.C., to Sunday worship in the Church. Satan infiltrated the Christian Church and most are oblivious to the fact that this has happened or understand the relevance. Sunday or “dies solis”, the day of the sun came from Satan worship and is his day. (more from here).

more to come...

HISTORY OF THE SABBATH OF THE EARLY CHURCH BEFORE THE COUNCIL OF NICEA?

Sabbath Observance Through The Centuries - The First Century A.D.

INSTITUTION OF THE SABBATH
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." (Genesis 2:1-3 )

JESUS
"And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read." (Luke 4:16)

JESUS
"And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." (Matthew 19:16,17)

JESUS
"But pray ye that your flight be not in winter, neither on the Sabbath day." (Matthew 24, 20).
NOTE: Jesus asked his disciples to pray that in the flight from the doomed city of Jerusalem they would not have to flee on the Sabbath day. This flight took place in 70 A.D. 40 years after the Jesus' crucfixion and we see here that Jesus fully expected His church to be observing His true seventh day Sabbath that He Himself proclaimed to be the Lord of.

JESUS' FOLLOWERS
"And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment." (Luke 23:56.) Did these women make a mistake and keep the wrong sabbath or was it that Christ NEVER EVER hinted that there would be a change forthcoming???

PAUL
"And Paul, as his manner was went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures" (Acts 17:2) Did Christ fail to inform Paul on the road to Damascus that there's now a new sabbath? Or rather does the silence of Christ speak volumes against the papal sabbath???

PAUL AND THE GENTILES
"And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. And the next Sabbath came almost the whole city together to hear the Word of God." Acts 13:42, 44.

Here we find Gentiles in a Gentile city gathering on the Sabbath. It was not a synagogue meeting in verse 44, for it says almost the whole city came together, verse 42 says they asked to hear the message the "next Sabbath."

And get this: The Bible does not say it is the "old Jewish Sabbath that was passed away," but the Spirit of God, writing the Book of Acts some 30 years after the crucifixion, calls it "the next Sabbath."

JOHN
"I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day." Rev.1:10 (Matthew 12:6; Mark 2:28, Isa.58:13, Ex.20:10, Clearly show the Sabbath to be the Lord's day).
The term "Lord's day" in reference to sunday came later. The Biblical meaning for Lord's day is the day that God calls "My holy day" and the day that Jesus said He is Lord of.

JOSEPHUS
"There is not any city of the Grecians, nor any of the Barbarians, nor any nation whatsoever, whither our custom of resting on the seventh day hath not come!" M'Clatchie, "Notes and Queries on China and Japan" (edited by Dennys), Vol 4, Nos 7, 8, p.100.

PHILO
Declares the seventh day to be a festival, not of this or of that city, but of the universe. M'Clatchie, "Notes and Queries," Vol. 4, 99

So we have incontrovertible proof that the observance of sunday was NOT practiced by the apostolic church of the first century. Although the poison of apostasy had already begun, it did not reach the ascendancy until the passage of a few more centuries.

The next installment will show the historical record of the early christians observing the true seventh day Sabbath in the second century A.D.

Sabbath Observance Through The Centuries - The Second Century A.D.

-----------------------------------------------
EARLY CHRISTIANS - 2nd Century
"The primitive Christians had a great veneration for the Sabbath, and spent the day in devotion and sermons. And it is not to be doubted but they derived this practice from the Apostles themselves, as appears by several scriptures to the purpose." "Dialogues on the Lord's Day," p. 189. London: 1701, By Dr. T.H. Morer (A Church of England divine).

EARLY CHRISTIANS - 2nd Century
"...The Sabbath was a strong tie which united them with the life of the whole people, and in keeping the Sabbath holy they followed not only the example but also the command of Jesus." "Geschichte des Sonntags," pp.13, 14

EARLY CHRISTIANS - 2nd Century
"The Gentile Christians observed also the Sabbath," Gieseler's "Church History," Vol.1, ch. 2, par. 30, 93.

EARLY CHRISTIANS - 2nd Century
"The primitive Christians did keep the Sabbath of the Jews;...therefore the Christians, for a long time together, did keep their conventions upon the Sabbath, in which some portions of the law were read: and this continued till the time of the Laodicean council." "The Whole Works" of Jeremy Taylor, Vol. IX,p. 416 (R. Heber's Edition, Vol XII, p. 416).

EARLY CHRISTIANS - 2nd Century
"It is certain that the ancient Sabbath did remain and was observed (together with the celebration of the Lord's day) by the Christians of the East Church, above three hundred years after our Saviour's death." "A Learned Treatise of the Sabbath," p. 77

Note: By the "Lord's day" here the writer means Sunday and not the true Sabbath," which the Bible says is the Sabbath. This quotation shows Sunday coming into use in the early centuries soon after the death of the Apostles. It illustrates the apostasy that Paul the Apostle foretold of when he spoke about a great "falling away" from the Truth that would take place soon after his death.

"From the apostles' time until the council of Laodicea, which was about the year 364, the holy observance of the Jews' Sabbath continued, as may be proved out of many authors: yea, notwithstanding the decree of the council against it." "Sunday a Sabbath." John Ley, p.163. London: 1640.

Sabbath Observance Through The Centuries - The Third Century A.D.

------------------------------------------
EGYPT (OXYRHYNCHUS PAPYRUS) (200-250 A.D.)
"Except ye make the sabbath a real sabbath (sabbatize the Sabbath," Greek), ye shall not see the Father." "The oxyrhynchus Papyri," pt,1, p.3, Logion 2, verso 4-11 (London Offices of the Egypt Exploration Fund, 1898).
EARLY CHRISTIANS-C 3rd
"Thou shalt observe the Sabbath, on account of Him who ceased from His work of creation, but ceased not from His work of providence: it is a rest for meditation of the law, not for idleness of the hands." "The Anti-Nicene Fathers," Vol 7,p. 413. From "Constitutions of the Holy Apostles," a document of the 3rd and 4th Centuries.

AFRICA (ALEXANDRIA) ORIGEN
"After the festival of the unceasing sacrifice (the crucifixion) is put the second festival of the Sabbath, and it is fitting for whoever is righteous among the saints to keep also the festival of the Sabbath. There remaineth therefore a sabbatismus, that is, a keeping of the Sabbath, to the people of God (Hebrews 4:9)." "Homily on Numbers 23," par.4, in Migne, "Patrologia Graeca," Vol. 12,cols. 749, 750.

PALESTINE TO INDIA (CHURCH OF THE EAST)
As early as A.D. 225 there existed large bishoprics or conferences of the Church of the East (Sabbath-keeping) stretching from Palestine to India. Mingana, "Early Spread of Christianity." Vol.10, p. 460.

INDIA (BUDDHIST CONTROVERSY), 220 A.D.)
The Kushan Dynasty of North India called a famous council of Buddhist priests at Vaisalia to bring uniformity among the Buddhist monks on the observance of their weekly Sabbath. Some had been so impressed by the writings of the Old Testament that they had begun to keep holy the Sabbath. Lloyd, "The Creed of Half Japan," p. 23.

EARLY CHRISTIANS
"The seventh-day Sabbath was...solemnised by Christ, the Apostles, and primitive Christians, till the Laodicean Council did in manner quite abolish the observations of it." "Dissertation on the Lord's Day," pp. 33, 34
---------------------------------------------

Sabbath Observance Through The Centuries - The Fourth Century A.D.

-----------------------------------------------
ITALY AND EAST-C 4th
"It was the practice generally of the Easterne Churches; and some churches of the west...For in the Church of Millaine (Milan);...it seems the Saturday was held in a farre esteeme... Not that the Easterne Churches, or any of the rest which observed that day, were inclined to Iudaisme (Judaism); but that they came together on the Sabbath day, to worship Iesus (Jesus) Christ the Lord of the Sabbath." "History of the Sabbath" (original spelling retained), Part 2, par. 5, pp.73, 74. London: 1636. Dr. Heylyn.
ORIENT AND MOST OF WORLD
"The ancient Christians were very careful in the observance of Saturday, or the seventh day...It is plain that all the Oriental churches, and the greatest part of the world, observed the Sabbath as a festival...Athanasius likewise tells us that they held religious assembles on the Sabbath, not because they were infected with Judaism, but to worship Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath, Epiphanius says the same." "Antiquities of the Christian Church," Vol.II Book XX, chap. 3, sec.1, 66. 1137,1138.

ABYSSINIA
"In the last half of that century St. Ambrose of Milan stated officially that the Abyssinian bishop, Museus, had 'traveled almost everywhere in the country of the Seres' (China). For more than seventeen centuries the Abyssinian Church continued to sanctify Saturday as the holy day of the fourth commandment." Ambrose, DeMoribus, Brachmanorium Opera Ominia, 1132, found in Migne, Patrologia Latima, Vol.17, pp.1131,1132.

ARABIA, PERSIA, INDIA, CHINA
"Mingana proves that in 370 A.D. Abyssinian Christianity (a Sabbath keeping church) was so popular that its famous director, Musacus, travelled extensively in the East promoting the church in Arabia, Persia, India and China." "Truth Triumphanat,"p.308 (Footnote 27).

ITALY-MILAN
"Ambrose, the celebrated bishop of Milan, said that when he was in Milan he observed Saturday, but when in Rome observed Sunday. This gave rise to the proverb, 'When you are in Rome, do as Rome does.'" Heylyn, "The History of the Sabbath" (1612)

SPAIN-COUNCIL ELVIRA (A.D.305)
Canon 26 of the Council of Elvira reveals that the Church of Spain at that time kept Saturday, the seventh day. "As to fasting every Sabbath: Resolved, that the error be corrected of fasting every Sabbath." This resolution of the council is in direct opposition to the policy the church at Rome had inaugurated, that of commanding Sabbath as a fast day in order to humiliate it and make it repugnant to the people.

SPAIN
It is a point of further interest to note that in north-eastern Spain near the city of Barcelona is a city called Sabadell, in a district originaly inhabited. By a people called both "Valldenses" and Sabbatati."

PERSIA-A.D. 335-375 (40 YEARS PERSECUTION UNDER SHAPUR II)
The popular complaint against the Christians-"They despise our sungod, they have divine services on Saturday, they desecrate the sacred the earth by burying their dead in it." Truth Triumphant," p.170.

PERSIA-A.D.335-375
"They despise our sun-god. Did not Zorcaster, the sainted founder of our divine beliefs, institute Sunday one thousand years ago in honour of the sun and supplant the Sabbath of the Old Testament. Yet these Christians have divine services on Saturday." O'Leary, "The Syriac Church and Fathers," pp.83, 84.

COUNCIL LAODICEA-A.D.365
"Canon 16-On Saturday the Gospels and other portions of the Scripture shall be read aloud." "Canon 29-Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday, but shall work on that day; but the Lord's day they shall especially honor, and as being Christians, shall, if possible, do no work on that day." Hefele's "Councils," Vol. 2, b. 6.

..................

God has always had a people that have kept His 4th commandment Sabbath unbroken to this very present day from Genesis to the days of Jesus and the Apostles, to the early Church after the death of Jesus to Gods' people all through time to this very present day God has always had a people who love God and have obeyed His 4th commandment of the 10 commandments according to the scriptures that follow in the footsteps of Jesus and the Apostles.

Something to pray about.

For me your posting early apostate sources outside of the bible in your last two posts. The sources you quote are not my fathers. What was the History of the earlier Church before the Council of Nicaea in regards to Gods' 4th commandment Sabbath?

The Christians during the apostolic era, from about 35 to 100 A.D., kept Sabbath on the designated seventh day of the week.

The verses below says otherwise. Paul said we are to judge no person in Sabbath keeping.
The text could not be any clearer.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Many of the disciples did go to the synagogue to preach Christ to the Jews, and they also met on the first day of the week. The reason is found below.

Mat_28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Mar_16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

Mar_16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Luk_24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

Joh_20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

Joh_20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Act_20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

1Co_16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

------------------------------------------

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

1Co_16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

.

Same old same old. You posted this some time back which was addressed with a detailed scripture rebuttal showing that none of these scriptures support your view that it is now ok to break Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandments that according to the new covenant scriptures give us a knowledge of what sin is when broken (Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4). Your response was to simply ignore my posts and the scriptures shared with you that disagree with your teachings that it is now ok to break Gods' commandments. For example if you believe the above scriptures support your view that that Gods' 4th commandment has now been abolished and Sunday worship is the new day of rest, what scripture have you provided says that Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandment has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day of rest? - None. According to the scriptures Gods' people met everyday of the week in Acts of the Apostles 2:46-47. God's people meeting together every day of the week does not make every day a holy day of rest that God now commands us to keep as a holy day where no work is to be done now does it? You also post Colossians 2:16 which is talking about the sabbath days (plural GNP) that context is to the Feast days not Gods' 4th commandment. You also post Hebrews 7:12 which is not talking about a change to Gods' 10 commandments but a change in the Priesthood law (read the context in Hebrews 7:1-25). You have posting no scripture to support your view here. That Gods' 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day of rest in place of Gods' 4th commandment. So where are your scriptures? You have none and if you have no scripture to support your view does this not worry you? It should. Sunday worship is a man-made teaching and tradition that has led many to break Gods' 4th commandment. According to the scriptures Gods' people are in every Church *John 10:16 but the hour is coming and now is that the true worshipers will worship God in Spirit and in truth *John 4:23. BABYLON has fallen and departed Gods' Word *Revelation 14:8-12; Revelation 18:4. God is calling His people to come out from following man-made teachings and traditions to return back to His Word because God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit in truth *John 4:24. God is calling us back to His Word. According to Jesus if we choose to follow the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God we are not worshiping God in Matthew 15:3-9. The question therefore remains who should we believe and follow God or man?

Something to pray about.

The verses below says otherwise. Paul said we are to judge no person in Sabbath keeping. The text could not be any clearer. Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Let's check everyone of the scriptures you provide to see if they say what you are claiming that Gods' 4th commandment is now abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest. Let's look at your first scriptures in Colossians 2:16 that you claim is talking about Gods' 4th commandment.

Colossians 2:16-17 [16], Let no man therefore judge you in (1)meat, or in drink, or in respect of an (2) holyday {ἑορτή G1859; Feast day}, or of the (3) new moon, or of the (4) sabbath days:[17], Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Colossians 2:16 is talking about the sabbath days (plural GNP) in context to the Feast days not Gods' 4th commandment. In the days of Jesus and Paul their bible was the old testament scriptures. Paul is referring to the old testament scriptures of the meat and drink offerings in the Feast days the new moons and the sabbaths in the Feast days. Many do not know that there are many annual sabbaths in the Feast days of Leviticus 23. These are not the same as Gods' 4th commandment but were linked directly to the annual Feasts of Leviticus 23 or days of holy convocation where no work was to be done and unlike God's 4th commandment that is simply every "seventh day" the annual feast sabbaths could fall on any day of the week depending on the yearly cycle.

For example when they fell on the seventh day Sabbath of Gods' 4th commandment they were called a High Sabbath (John 19:31). So what were the annual sabbaths in the Feast days? These included; (1) Feast of Unleavened Bread (first and last day) *Leviticus 23:6-8 (2) Feast of Trumpets *Leviticus 23:24-25 (3) Day of Atonement *Leviticus 23:27-32 (4) Feast of Booths *Leviticus 23:34-36 (5) Feast of First Fruits *Leviticus 23:39 (6) Feast days of Holy convocation of no work (sabbaton Colossians 2:16 *Leviticus 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36. Not also Colossians 2:16 is not talking about the Sabbath day singular but plural many different sabbaths to plural application. The Greek is genitive neuter plural to sabbaths or sabbath days and the context is to the Feast days as shown above.

Now lets go back to the old testament scriptures and see what Paul is quoting from in Colossians 2:16?

Colossians 2:16-17 [16], Let no man therefore judge you in (1) MEAT, or in DRINK, or in respect of an (2) HOLYDAY {ἑορτή G1859; Feast day}, or of the (3) NEW MOON, or of the (4) SABBATH DAYS

Paul is referencing the following scriptures. Note the context and compare these following scriptures to Colossians 2:16
...

Ezekiel 45:17 "And it shall be the prince's part to give (1) BURNT OFFERINGS, and MEAT OFFERINGS, and DRINK OFFERINGS, (2) IN THE FEASTS, and (3) IN THE NEW MOONS, and (4) IN THE SABBATHS, in all solemnities of the house of Israel."

Let's look at some more similar scriptures Paul is quoting from..

Isaiah 1:10-14 [10] Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.[11] To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I AM FULL OF THE BURNT OFFERINGS of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.[12] When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?[13] BRING NO MORE VAIN OBLATIONS; incense is an abomination unto me; THE NEW MOONS AND SABBATHS, THE CALLING OF ASSEMBLIES, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.[14] Your NEW MOONS and your APPOINTED FEASTS my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

1 Chronicles 23:31 And to offer ALL BURNT SACRIFICES TO THE LORD IN THE SABBATHS, IN THE NEW MOONS and on the set FEASTS, by number, according to the order commanded to them, continually before the LORD.

2 Chronicles 2:4 Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, FOR THE BURNT OFFERINGS MORNING AND EVENING ON THE SABBATHS AND ON THE NEW MOONS AND ON THE SOLEMN FEASTS of the LORD our God.

2 Chronicles 31:3 He appointed also ... THE BURNT OFFERINGS FOR THE SABBATH AND FOR THE NEW MOONS AND FOR THE SET FEASTS, as it is written in the law of the LORD.

Nehemiah 10:33 For the showbread, and FOR THE CONTINUAL MEAT OFFERING AND FOR THE CONTINUAL BURNT OFFERING OF THE SABBATHS, OF THE NEW MOONS, FOR THE SET FEASTS, and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God.

Numbers 28:9-10 [9] And on the Sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a MEAT OFFERING, mingled with oil, and the DRINK OFFERING thereof: [10] This is the burnt offering of EVERY SABBATH, beside the continual BURN'T OFFERING, and his DRINK OFFERING.

Hosea 2:11 [11], I will also cause all her mirth to CEASE, HER [ISRAEL'S] FEAST DAYS, her NEW MOONS, and HER SABBATHS, and all HER [ISRAELS] SOLEMN FEASTS.

Leviticus 23:4-6; 13 [4] These are THE FEASTS OF THE LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. [5] In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is THE LORD'S PASSOVER. [6] And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread…… [13] And the MEAT OFFERING thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the DRINK OFFERING thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.

As can be shown above every application of the scriptures Paul is referring to from Colossians 2:16-17 is to the annual sabbaths in in the Feast days, the new Moons and the meat and the drink offerings; not Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandments. Application is always to sabbaths plural in the Feast days!

Let's now look at further new testament application to the above scriptures...

HEBREWS 9:1; 9-10; 12 [1] Then verily THE FIRST COVENANT HAD ALSO ORDINANCES of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.... [9] WHICH WAS A FIGURE for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;[10] WHICH STOOD ONLY IN MEATS AND DRINKS, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.[12] NEITHER BY THE BLOOD OF GOATS AND CALVES, BUT BY HIS OWN BLOOD he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

HEBREWS 10:1-9
[1], FOR THE LAW HAVING A SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS TO COME, AND NOT THE VERY IMAGE OF THE THINGS, CAN NEVER WITH THOSE SACRIFICES which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
[2], For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshipers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
[3], But in those SACRIFICES there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
[4], For it is not possible that THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND GOATS should take away sins.
[5], Why when he comes into the world, he said, SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS YOU WOULD NOT BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME:
[6], IN BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES FOR SIN YOU HAVE HAD NO PLEASURE.
[7], Then said I, See, I come in the VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME, to do your will, O God.
[8], Above when he said, SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERINGS FOR SIN YOU WOULD NOT, neither had pleasure therein; WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE LAW;
[9], Then said he, See, I come to do your will, O God. He takes away the first, that he may establish the second.

NOTE; the LAW in reference here is NOT God's 10 Commandments but the law of sin offerings from the SHADOW laws of the MOSAIC BOOK of the LAW *DEUTERONOMY 31:24-26 from the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 (Please look at the attached scriptures)
PAUL is writing about from the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures which are the sacrificial SIN offerings and JEWISH annual festivals that where shadow laws from the MOSAIC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 that pointed to JESUS and God's plan of salvation in the NEW COVENANT *HEBREWS 8:10-12.

....................

CONCLUSION: Paul in Colossians 2:16 is referencing the sabbaths (plural) in the Feast days not God's 4th commandment or any of God's 10 commandments in Colossians 2. Now I have gone the extra mile and spent a bit of time on this for you so if you disagree with what has been shared with you here show why from the scriptures. I have a lot more to share on this subject but will stop for now to see if you agree with what has been shared here with you in regards to Colossians 2:16. So no Colossians 2:16-17 does not say Gods' 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day of rest. That is not written in these scriptures.

Let's look at your other scriptures in detail as well in the coming posts...

There is not one scripture anywhere here that supports the teaching that God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day of rest. Every scripture you have provided here simply shows Gods' disciples meeting on the first day of the week for various reasons. There is not one scripture posted here that says that the disciples were gathering on Sunday because of the Lord's day or that Sunday is now the new Sabbath or God's 4th commandment had now been abolished.

In fact as posted earlier according to the scriptures Gods' people met everyday of the week in Acts of the Apostles 2:46-47. God's people meeting together every day of the week does not make every day a holy day of rest that God now commands us to keep as a holy day where no work is to be done now does it?

Acts of the Apostles 2:46-47
[46], And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, [47], Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

.....................

CONCLUSION: There is not one scripture you have posted here that says God's 4th commandment has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest now is there?

Let's look at your final scripture from Hebrews 7 in a separate post.

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
You post your last scripture as a claim that God's 10 commandments have been changed so let's examine the scripture and see if it matches your claims and interpretation of them?

According to the context of Hebrews 7, Hebrews 7:18 has nothing to do with God’s 10 commandments. The law being spoken of here is the law of the Levitical Priesthood not the 10 commandments. It is talking about a change in the laws regarding who can be a Priest. Under the old testament laws only a Levite could partake of the office of the Sanctuary Priests of High Priest. The context that of JESUS who was born of the tribe of Judah and Melchisedek meaning King Priest.

Let's add some context...

Hebrews 7:12-22 [12], FOR THE PRIESTHOOD BEING CHANGED, THERE IS MADE OF NECESSITY A CHANGE ALSO OF THE LAW. [13], For he of whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. [14], FOR IT IS EVIDENT THAT OUR LORD SPRANG OUT OF JUDA; OF WHICH TRIBE MOSES SPOKE NOTHING CONCERNING PRIESTHOOD. [15], And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there rises another priest, [16], Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. [17], For he testifies, You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. [18], For there is truly a cancellation of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. [19], For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw near to God. [20], And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: [21], (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said to him, The Lord swore and will not repent, You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec [22], By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

Hebrews 7:28 FOR THE LAW MAKES MEN HIGH PRIESTS which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, WHICH WAS SINCE THE LAW, MAKES THE SON, WHO IS CONSECRATED FOR EVER MORE.

.......................

CONCLUSION: Once we add the scripture context back we can see that it is the law of the Levitical Priesthood being changed here and the laws for remission of sins not God’s 10 commandments. It should be pretty evident to most here that your only cherry picking the scriptures and that the scriptures you have provided here do not support your claims that God's 4th commandment has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest. You have not posted a single scripture to support your claims here if you disagree with anything I have posted your welcome to show why from the scriptures.

Hope this is helpful.

There is not one scripture anywhere here that supports the teaching that God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day of rest.

Hebrews 8:13 actually says the New Covenant has made the Old Covenant "obsolete", instead of abolished. I have a rotary phone that still works, even though it is obsolete compared to a cell phone.

Colossians 2:16-17 says the sabbaths were a "shadow" of Christ. He is our rest in the New Covenant.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Do you deny that Christ worked on the Sabbath in the passage below?

Joh 5:8 Jesus saith unto him,
Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

Joh 5:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
Joh 5:10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
Joh 5:11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
Joh 5:12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
Joh 5:13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

Joh 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
Joh 5:15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
Joh 5:16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

Joh 5:17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

How could Christ work on the Sabbath day without breaking the law?
It is because He is a high priest. The priests were allowed to work on the Sabbath.

True we are in the new covenant now not the old covenant. What is your point? You did not make one.
Colossians 2:16-17 says the sabbaths were a "shadow" of Christ. He is our rest in the New Covenant. Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Repetition. I am still waiting for a response from you from the scriptures provided in Post # 474 linked, that proves that Colossians 2:16 is talking about the sabbath days (plural GNP) in context to the Feast days not Gods' 4th commandment. Did you read the linked post? This was already addressed in some detail for you. If you disagree with the scriptures provided in the linked post post show why you disagree. (Scripture please)
Do you deny that Christ worked on the Sabbath in the passage below?
Joh 5:8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
The priests were allowed to work on the Sabbath. .
If Jesus broke the Sabbath like you are claiming than he would be a sinner like you and me and we are all lost. Jesus says it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Gods' Work is doing good on the Sabbath therefore something that is not our work as commanded in Gods' 4th commandment *Exodus 20:8-11 and is lawful to do on the Sabbath.

Matthew 12:1-12
[1], At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.
[2], But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath day.
[3], But he said to them, Have you not read what David did, when he was an hungered, and they that were with him;
[4], How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the show bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
[5], Or have you not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
[6], But I say to you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
[7], But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless.
[8], For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
[9], And when he was departed there, he went into their synagogue:
[10], And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
[11], And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
[12], How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do good on the sabbath days.
[13], Then said he to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

Are you trying now to argue that is not not lawful to do good on the Sabbath and Jesus was a sinner?
In the very words of Jesus it is lawful to do good and God's work on the Sabbath day.

....................

Now do you have anything else?

CONCLUSION: Every single scripture you have provided to make your claims that Gods' 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day once examined does not say what you are claiming. Your response has been to ignore the posts and scriptures that disagree with you. Does this not worry you? It should. That means that you have not provided a single scripture once examined that supports your position that God's 10 commandments have now been abolished and Sunday is now God's holy day of rest. According to the scriptures in the new testament if we break anyone of Gods' 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of sin *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4: James 2:10-11.

Let me ask you a question dear friend in order to help the discussion. If someone has been given a knowledge of the truth of Gods' Word (Acts of the Apostles 17:30-31; James 4:17) and they choose to reject God's Word in order to continue in a life of known unrepentant sin, are they in a saved state with God or an unsaved state before God (see Hebrews 10:26-31; 1 John 2:3-4)?

We should be careful not to ignore Gods' Word. Ignoring God's Word does not make them disappear. According to Jesus the Words of God we accept or reject become our judge come judgement day in John 12:47-48.

Hope this is helpful.

Are you trying now to argue that is not not lawful to do good on the Sabbath and Jesus was a sinner?
In the very words of Jesus it is lawful to do good and God's work on the Sabbath day.

I plainly stated that Christ did not break the Sabbath day in John 5:1-17, because He is a priest.

Do you act like a modern Pharisee by accusing others of not properly keeping the Sabbath day?

Joh 5:16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
Joh 5:17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

Heb_5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
Heb_5:6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Who else would be a priest in the New Covenant, based on the words of Peter below?

1Pe 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
1Pe 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
1Pe 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
1Pe 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
1Pe 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

I plainly stated that Christ did not break the Sabbath day in John 5:1-17, because He is a priest.
Jesus did not become a Priest dear friend while he was the lamb.
Do you act like a modern Pharisee by accusing others of not properly keeping the Sabbath day?
No I do not judge you. I only seek to share Gods' Word which are not my words but Gods' Words. For me He must increase but I must decrease *John 3:30. I am only like a voice crying in the wilderness as John said quoting the prophet Isaiah make straight the way of the Lord *Matthew 3:3. Jesus is coming. I must point all to Gods' Word who will see and hear *Isaiah 6:9-10. Yet these once again are Gods' Words not my words, but it seems you do not believe me. The very Words of God we accept or reject according to the scriptures will be our judge come judgement day according to Jesus in John 12:47-48.
Joh 5:16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
Joh 5:17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
Repetition again. I am still awaiting your response. Please see post # 478 linked
Heb_5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. Heb_5:6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Indeed, and your point is? You did not make one.
Indeed, and your point is? You did not make one. Why do you think there was a change of the law of the Priesthood in Hebrews 7:12 that you thought was talking about Gods' 10 commandments? If your not going to address my posts to you than please let me know. I am sure we both have better things to do with our time.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word. Ignoring it does not make it disappear.
