You can reject the results of the Senate vote if you wish. Likewise, I can reject the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election - the Big Lie that is the Biden presidency.

Imagine if you actually chose to do something about it...

There are more that 2,100,000 civilian employees of the federal government at present.

If the disgruntled Republicans you're referring to managed to enlist 100 who "have" worked for the federal government at any time in the past...

...that doesn't say much for their movement, does it?

Excuse me, it actually stated, "Over 100 former Republican officials." Forgive me, though, if I have a feeling you knew we weren't talking of low level government workers but people who actively have worked in Republican administrations in the highest levels of government; but are just trying to minimize this "revolt."

Their votes count the same on Election Day...

The Senate acquitted him on all of those charges. You can reject the results of the Senate vote if you wish. Likewise, I can reject the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election - the Big Lie that is the Biden presidency.
The Senate vote is a political excercise. Very different from a court and very different from an election.
A Senate acquittal does not mean he was innocent, it just means they didn't have 2/3rd of Senators wanting to remove him from office.

Excuse me, it actually stated, "Over 100 former Republican officials."
You know, I almost included the word "over" when writing, but then I thought...what difference would it make if it were 120 or 145 out of more than TWO MILLION (which only includes those currently employed, whereas your "over 100" refers to that many people drawn any decade past)? No difference, really.

I have a feeling you knew we weren't talking of low level government workers but people who actively have worked in Republican administrations in the highest levels of government; but are just trying to minimize this "revolt."

It cannot be "minimized." That effort is minimal, miniscule. It's also in disgrace and has already proven to be a failure.

The names that get cited by the media are higher-ranking figures in government, that's true, that's only a small percentage of the 100 figure.

In addition, most of these people are a 'walk down memory lane.' Having been out of the public eye and public service for many years, the better part of that group are, to most Americans, just names on a page.

I noticed. There's no reason to think that these people would be successful in starting a third party, even if they actually try. I doubt they will. More likely, people who reject Trump will vote for Democrats or not vote.

I agree.

The only thing going for this group now is the possibility of something that it might try at some time in the future...coupled of course to the media's willingness to report on the idea as if the step were actually about to be taken.

And we also should realize that this is essentially the same bunch that did put up an independent candidate against Donald Trump in 2016, hoping to deliver the victory to Hillary Clinton. Reportedly, simply finding someone, even a political novice willing to undertake that kamikaze mission, wasn't easy.

You may be right - which only speaks to the sad state of conservatism in this country. It doesn't bode well for our country....

But you probably are assuming that the NeverTrump group we're talking about is made up of the "real" conservatives. They aren't, even though they like to pose as such and may actually believe that's what they are.

By and large, they're what is called "Neo-Cons," which is a slant on the idea of conservatism that got rolling only a generation or so and has been rejected by more conventional conservatives.

The current Republican party has abandoned conservatism -
-small government (fiscally and in our private lives)
-free enterprise

That was long before Trump came along...
But we didn’t see a departure from the august conservative principle of “states’ rights” until Texas filed suit against four other states for following their own elections laws. Trump helped them divorce themselves from that pesky concept.

Clear and present danger to our democracy:

"About a third of the way through the 2022 primaries, voters have nominated scores of Republican candidates for state and federal office who say the 2020 election was rigged.

The Post’s analysis includes outcomes in the 14 states that held nominating primaries or conventions through the end of May. The survey includes contests for Congress and all statewide offices with power over election administration: governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and, in most cases, secretary of state. Voters have chosen at least 108 candidates for statewide office or Congress who have repeated Trump’s lies. The majority of these winning candidates are running in districts or states that lean Republican, according to Cook Political Report ratings — meaning they are likely to win the offices they seek."

Its also interesting that in the Georgia primary, the governor and sec of state won their Republican primaries despite clearly maintaining the truth that Trump lost. Georgia is a swing state sorta, or at least when Trump interferes people there react against him.

It will be interesting in the swing states if the big lie candidates do well or underperform.

A majority of Republican nominees on the ballot this November for the House, Senate and key statewide offices — 299 in all — have denied or questioned the outcome of the last presidential election, according to a Washington Post analysis.

Candidates who have challenged or refused to accept Joe Biden’s victory are running in every region of the country and in nearly every state. Republican voters in four states nominated election deniers in all federal and statewide races The Post examined.

Although some are running in heavily Democratic areas and are expected to lose, most of the election deniers nominated are likely to win: Of the nearly 300 on the ballot, 174 are running for safely Republican seats. Another 51 will appear on the ballot in tightly contested races.

The implications will be lasting: If Republicans take control of the House, as many political forecasters predict, election deniers would hold enormous sway over the choice of the nation’s next speaker, who in turn could preside over the House in a future contested presidential election. The winners of all the races examined by The Post — those for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, Senate and House — will hold some measure of power overseeing American elections.

It's an expensive lesson for Trump followers, to spend so many time and energy investing their hope, trust, faith, hope for salvation (on Earth, in this world, where they are putting their hopes) into Trump....

I wonder if they know Trump is doing stuff like posting this on his 'truth social' feed that his 4-year Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao who escaped Communist China at age 8 to flee to freedom in Taiwan...is 'China loving' --

“Is McConnell approving all of these trillions of dollars worth of Democrat-sponsored bills, without even the slightest bit of negotiation, because he hates Donald J. Trump, and he knows I am strongly opposed to them, or is he doing it because he believes in the fake and highly destructive green new deal, and is willing to take the country down with him? In any event, either reason is unacceptable," Trump wrote on Truth Social, a social media platform created by Trump Media & Technology Group in 2021. “He has a DEATH WISH," Trump continued. “Must immediately seek help and advise from his China loving wife, Coco Chow!"
Trump calls Elaine Chao ‘Coco Chow’ in latest attack on Mitch McConnell

Liz Cheney, speaking at the McCain Institute in Arizona yesterday:

“You have a candidate for governor in Kari Lake, you have a candidate for secretary of state in Mark Finchem, both of whom have said ... that they will only honor the results of an election if they agree with it,” Cheney said. She warned: “The country is at the edge of an abyss. If we don’t reject this appeasement of antidemocratic forces, we are going to go over the edge.”

She continued, “They’ve looked at all of that — the law, the facts and the rulings, the courts — and they’ve said it doesn’t matter to them. And if you care about democracy and you care about the survival of our republic, then you need to understand, we all have to understand, that we cannot give people power who have told us that they will not honor elections.”
