It doesn't seem as though that's too difficult for anyone to "get," does it?

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that a political leader should always listen to their voters. The fact is, Donald Trump told his supporters lies about our election ...and Liz Cheney is not buying it....nor should she or any leader who has an ounce of integrity.

Or..... She was voted out of her position in Republican Party Leadership by her peers. You know, the ones who voted her in to the position. According to them they had irreconcilable differences, they want to do everything to move the party forward and she wanted to focus on keeping Trump out of future office.

That's what I said -- she was cancelled because of her opinions.

Let's start numbering the off-topic allegations being made here that are intended to slam someone (or everyone) in the party that is not the preference of the poster, quite apart from what this event in Congress is all about.

I may be incorrect, but I think this one might have been #4 or #5.

That explains why the Republicans emptied the chamber en masse when she spoke. The trump personality cult, a.k.a., the current Republican party, wants to discredit her and everyone else who disagrees with them. It seems that the meaning of Republican has changed to someone who is extremely intolerant of all those who do not share their opinion that trump is perfect, including leaders of their own party.
Stop the Spin! Oops, I think that's been used. Really, I found Trump to be a very polarizing egomaniac that would not admit his faults and tended to go on and on about his many accomplishments. I can see why the mainstream media hated him; because he was not a politician and instead of stroking them with soft promises while shafting them, he fought back with very blunt and often crass statements. But!!! You see the mainstream media and the Democratic Party has a problem, they have spent a lot of time and political willpower over the last four years to vilify one man, Donald Trump. They succeeded in getting Biden into office and so far have obscured the problems of the Biden Administration behind a "This was caused by Trump" rhetoric. That strategy is running on fumes and so they have to keep Trump in front of the news cameras if only by proxy. Liz Cheney is too politically naive to realize this and played right into their hands. Instead of moving forward and working to heal the GOP, she has repeatedly bought into the Democratic framework of continuing to paint the GOP as the party of Trump. This is why she was removed; because she no longer represents the interests of the GOP well. All one needs to understand this is to listen to her comments after the vote.

Cheney is smarter than you're guessing seems to me. I was a big Ronald Reagan fan way back in 1975. I don't know that Cheney could move that fast by just 2024, but maybe by 2024 she could be doing more to set herself up in 2028. Just a guess. We'll see.

Could be; but to set yourself up as a Trump alternative, you have to show the ability to lead the GOP back to prominence. Her continuing anti-Trump rhetoric has deprived her of that leadership position. I am sure the mainstream media will try to keep her as their darling, at least in the short term; but the mainstream media has a very short attention span. When this becomes an argument more about the Democratic agenda and less about the faults of Trump, the mainstream media will find that the horse has died underneath them. They will turn from Cheney and circle the wagons by concentrating on not being about oppositional journalism but the spin doctors for the Biden Administration. If you want to see an example of this now, just watch Jen Psaki in her press conferences.

This comes down to the Big Lie. One either swallows it and marches in step with Trump into deeper darkness or gets rebuked by the GOP.

You guys just crack me up with the way you spin things. This is not about silencing Liz Cheney. She is free to continue making all of the comments she has made in the past. This is about having someone who is in the minority of opinions on many issues in the GOP as one of the leaders of the GOP in the House. The GOP has every right to select someone else to be that leader. So this is actually about liberals trying to spin this to cancel that right to select someone else without mass media backlash. It seems that the meaning of liberal has changed to someone who is extremely tolerant of all others who share their opinion and extremely intolerant of all those who do not.

Since she had a much more solid record of voting consistently with GOP policies then the person who is likely to succeed her (68% to 45% last I heard) you claims seem hard to credit. It seems much more that she is required to buy into the lie of Trump winning the election. That appears to be the deciding factor.

The implication here is that saying the election wasn’t rigged against Trump is a minority opinion in the GOP. Do you agree with that?

McCarthy just stated that nobody in the GOP questions the legitimacy of the election.

Stop the Spin! Oops, I think that's been used. Really, I found Trump to be a very polarizing egomaniac that would not admit his faults and tended to go on and on about his many accomplishments.

But you follow him nonetheless.

I can see why the mainstream media hated him; because he was not a politician and instead of stroking them with soft promises while shafting them, he fought back with very blunt and often crass statements.

So he impressed you.

But!!! You see the mainstream media and the Democratic Party has a problem, they have spent a lot of time and political willpower over the last four years to vilify one man, Donald Trump.

You were just explaining how easy that would be. #worksmarternotharder

They succeeded in getting Biden into office and so far have obscured the problems of the Biden Administration behind a "This was caused by Trump" rhetoric.

Well, they succeeded because the GOP and conservative media failed to keep Donald in office. That's how it works, after all.

That strategy is running on fumes and so they have to keep Trump in front of the news cameras if only by proxy. Liz Cheney is too politically naive to realize this and played right into their hands.

I think Liz Cheney is a lot smarter than you give her credit for.

Instead of moving forward and working to heal the GOP, she has repeatedly bought into the Democratic framework of continuing to paint the GOP as the party of Trump.

Are you claiming it's not?

This is why she was removed; because she no longer represents the interests of the GOP well. All one needs to understand this is to listen to her comments after the vote.

And what are the interests of the GOP?

Well there go his hopes of ever holding the Speakership should his party ever gain the majority back in the House.

As House Republicans meet to oust Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership post for criticizing Donald Trump, swing voters in Axios' latest Engagious/Schlesinger focus groups hold a near-unanimous view that Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and his caucus are making a mistake.

  • "It seems like you need to conform to be a leader in the Republican Party," said Rosie F., 53, of Pennsylvania.
  • "They're followers," said Jimmy S., 41, from Maricopa County, Arizona. "It's all about trying to please one person."
  • Engagious president Rich Thau, who moderated the focus groups, said swing voters themselves tend to be non-conformists so "when they see a political party punishing a person like them, it rubs them the wrong way."

McCarthy just stated that nobody in the GOP questions the legitimacy of the election.

McCarthy says a lot of things:

“The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding.” January 13th, 2021

....a few days later he scuttled down to Florida to pay homage to his king.

At least the GOP is being more transparent in its descent from political party to personality cult.

Congratulations, it's no longer enough to be a a conservative and agree with hard right political policies in order to be a Republican. In order to be a Republican you must swear your loyalty oath and receive your libellus as a certified loyal servant of the disgraced former president. The Party demands it.

If there were any truth to that analysis, there would have been a dozen other members of Congress who would have been censured or had other such actions taken against them before Liz Cheney.

Quite obviously, there's something wrong with your theory.

Or your opinion of my theory...
