Hi all,

I put together slides for my Church and we use Linux Mint Cinnamon and LibreOffice 6 and in impress I embed videos which played (.wmv extension) but in LibreOffice 7 I can't get the videos to play. The videos just show up as giant play buttons. I did install gstreamer - nice, good, bad, and ugly and also libreoffice-avmedia-backend-gstreamer. I even did a DuckDuckGo search and nothing helpful. I thought maybe someone here might know. Thank you for any help

I've just inserted a .mov file into LO Impress (Version 7) and it seems to be working OK. Maybe you could consider converting the .mwv file into another format (such as .mov for example) and see if that works. To convert it, I recommend installing Pitivi, add the video clip to the project view - then click Render to export to whatever format you choose.

Was it LO 7?
Yes Libre Office version 7.1.3.2. Just tried putting one of my .mov files into Impress and it is working fine. Maybe just need to change the video to this or another format! :)

I wanted to give a little update. I tried Zorin 16 Beta and the embedded videos in LO 7 worked, Ubuntu and Mint must be missing something that is included in Zorin.
I've just been looking at some of the data on Distrowatch.
The current stable version of LO is 7.1.3.
Most current distros are still providing 7.1.2 in their repos.
Interestingly, Zorin 16 beta is shipping 7.1.2rc2 which appears to be a release candidate. If it is a release candidate for 7.1.3 then I'm wondering whether that might explain why it is working in Zorin 16 beta but not the others.
These days, you can just grab the most recent version LO as a flatpak and install it that way.

On the subject of church presentation software, a few days ago I came across an application called Floodlight which runs on Linux and is also available for Mac and Windows.
Floodlight
It might not be what you need, but it is certainly worth a look!

Taodeching,
one program worth looking into is WPS Office 2019. It is fully compatible with google docs, MS office, and it can probably do what your looking to do with an office suite.

The Most Compatible Free Linux Office Suite | WPS Office

I use that but it won't work in my situation. I am trying to go for a raspberry pi 400 :) but it looks like both Fedora and Raspbian can do flatpaks. Which then of course I could use WPS Office :)

If you are using Linux Mint, I believe that Flatpak support is already built in! :) So you should be able to install WPS or any another software you need :)
Even those distros that do not have it set up by default, it can be easily added just by following the instructions for the relevant distro on the Flatpak website.

Flatpak support has ended since Linux Mint 20. You need to manually install it from version 20.04 onward. Same with Snap.

I got flatpak included when I installed LM 20.04 now, snaps are not though. I used some flatpaks and didn't have to add anything on LM which surprised me because I thought flatpak support went away
