What might be causing these temporary visions when you wake up in the morning?

The visions last a few minutes and I'm already fully awake (I've gone out of bed, wiping my eyes, slapping myself and proceed to make breakfast to make sure I'm not just dreaming).

One vision involved seeing shiny black strings dancing / bouncing up and down on top of furnitures. I got close, tried to touch them and realized, it's not real. The furniture is real but my hands simply went through these strings.

Another example, I woke up having many perfectly straight, razor-thin lines in my vision. The lines are also perfectly parallel and equidistant to one another. I even took a straight rule to see if the lines are perfectly straight and they were.

They slowly vanish from sight after a few minutes. They are not a problem atm because they don't render me blind and lasts only few minutes. Most mornings, they don't even manifest.

What could cause this first thing in the morning? tumor?

You should probably get your eyes checked.

Book an appointment with a neurologist and find out. That would seem to be the logical first step and he or she could point you to other possibilities ...

Surely if it was serious you would be seeing lines and strings at any time of day.

Stress can cause a lot of wierd things to happen.

A stress that prevents sound sleep for example
may go unoticed until you get signals that not everything is
as it should be.

I've had cataract surgery for both eyes and a detached retina welded back on one eye. I get 'floaters'* in both eyes and suffer from dry eye. The peak effect is when first waking up when the still eye pond is first disturbed, the floaters start moving, and I am most aware of them. Give it half an hour to adjust and all is well. There are still floaters, but I have accommodated to them and now focus beyond them to see normality.

*floater
moving squiggly lines in the field of vision. Imagine very thin worms. caused by the shadow of strings of thickened vitreous fluid within the eye, Not as bad as it sounds.

That's good info for floaters

I have floaters too but the morning visions I see look quite different and have much shorter lifespan like only few minutes.

And they don't look the same each time. Sometimes, the strings are luminous if morning's still dark and floaters definitely don't glow especially not in complete darkness.

So I think it's in my head but how and why?

Not that easy in this crazy day and age anymore. I fear getting any close to medical facilities, eventually would require a CAT scan. Recently got Covid from a hospital. Fully recovered now, thank God, but fear getting reinfected again so soon.

I am a bit stressed lately. Otherwise I'm getting very good sleep actually. I sleep much much better when stressed, the irony... Stress makes me very sleepy.

Modern medicine is a crapshoot for sure and there is always the financial angle and/or medical insurance, but discovering a brain tumor sooner than later is one thing they do well.

In the transition between wakefulness and sleep (and vice versa) it is not uncommon to experience hypnogogic or hypnopompic hallucinations. I experience them from time to time and they can be very vivid and sometimes very annoying!
I'm not sure whether this is describing what you are experiencing, but in any event, if you are getting regularly troubled by these experiences, it is best to speak with your doctor and get their advice and support.

I don't usually find them bothersome unless I'm seeing them in the form of big spiders!:swoon:

Well I would definitely advise visiting your GP to rule out any factors and, if anything, to help put your mind at rest. It is interesting that the symptoms are happening at the same time of day and you are clearly aware that they are not real. This will be vital information that will help your GP get a better insight and understanding of the problem you are experiencing.
There are some things you could try to see if they help improve your symptoms. Such as avoiding caffeine, computer games and watching TV late at night, instead giving yourself time to relax and unwind before going to bed. Ensuring you maintain a regular and consistent sleeping pattern. Talking to friends and family if you are feeling worried or anxious about anything.
This is not a substitute for expert medical advice, but just a list of things we should all be doing because they benefit our health and well-being generally.

I'm not going to offer any medical advice because I don't have any qualifications. But after reading this article (which may or may not be valid in your case), if it was me, I'd head off to the doctor and / or optometrist or both to start with.

You've already admitted you've got floaters, so maybe the condition is gradually worsening. I'd suggest you at least get it checked out as others have suggested.

Hopefully be doing that in a few months after getting a vaccine (we have vaccine shortage atm).

I've been working late hours lately. The whole day to the night juggling between three jobs.

I too have been seeing black blures dancing around,

first I thought they were flies or gnats so tried waving them away, pretty annoying.

I have no trouble going to sleep but I wake up after three hours, so am thinking my eyes need some rest.

Sounds like floaters. Basically the shadows from thickened bits of the fluid which fills your eye. From my experience they are more obvious when you first wake up. While they can indicate a problem they are normally not something to worry about.

I could not connect with your link,

last year I was seeing double of certain things,
was in a farlead and was seeing double bouys and markers,

went so
close to one to see if I was just seeing things,

and I was but only when I was right next to it.

I told the doctors when I was in hospital but they did not seem to think there was any connecton.

I think stress has a lot to do with it.
