Sixth grader shoots three people at her school

A sixth-grade girl shot two students and a custodian at a middle school in Idaho yesterday, before being disarmed by a teacher. According to the Jefferson county sheriff, Steve Anderson, the pupil fired multiple rounds inside and outside of Rigby middle school in the city of Rigby.

How could it happen that a 12 year old girl was able to take a gun to school?

I know that it hurts people's heart to contemplate this ... but, if we're going to have guns permeating our society, ... we need to protect our children by having metal/weapon detection at our schools' entrances ...

As long as irresponsible adults are allowed to have guns this is to be expected.

Me either, thankfully! Guns are essential tools. Like all tools, in the hands of the troubled they are transformed into murderous implements. Good luck outlawing mens rea.

Lizzie Borden didn't have to look far for the (normally very useful) axe she used to murder her parents with.

I'm still waiting for the double digit sword attacks because it's really only about the people, the weapon doesn't affect the body count in any way.

I've managed to live without a gun in the household I've lived in for nearly 60 years. Never once had I ever even thought...."if only I had a gun".

This situation demonstrates that the answer isn't as the NRA advocates repeat over and over again that we need "one good person with a gun" as a remedy.
