Again you choose to ignore Phil 2. The Son of God choose not to use his attributes and abilities.
No. Practicing eisegesis, you are INSISTING that Phil 2 can only be understood as conveying the so-called hypostatic union. As you commonly do, you are assuming precisely what's in debate. I gave an alternative theory of the Incarnation on this thread - one that is NOT gibberish - and it is perfectly consistent with the language of Phil 2.

Comparing a human to God is like comparing rocks to humans.
In a monistic materialistic metaphysics, such as mine, rocks ARE identical in essence to humans, which is why Jesus said He could raise up children for Abraham from the stones.

You've bought into the Greek myth that God can't be compared to humans, He must transcend human understanding. That thinking is theologically self-defeating because if we cannot comprehend God, we have no hope. For example if "love" means something different to God than to us (to us it means kindness), we have no hope.

Sorry, I am standing on the shoulders of well know Church Fathers and Theologians, Not sitting in the lap of watchman Lee.

John 20:22 says, “He breathed into them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit.” Here the Spirit of life is likened to breath, which is for life. In John 20:22 the Spirit as the breath was breathed as life into the disciples for their life. By breathing the Spirit into the disciples, the Lord Jesus imparted Himself into them as life and everything.

The Holy Spirit is actually nothing less than the resurrected Lord Jesus Himself, because this Spirit is His breath. The Greek word for Spirit in this verse is pneuma, a word that is used for breath, spirit, and wind. Here's a better way to state my point. We have human minds and, as such, can only think in human terms. If you're saying that God transcends human terms and, as such, is humanly incomprehensible, that spells the end of theology. In that case, you can't justifiably insist on one particular doctrine or another, the right thing to do would be to shut up.

Claiming that matter is eternal at creation strikes me as being contrary to the nature of God.

So, the claim that God is limited to eternal laws and eternal matter would limit our Lord how?
Process theology. God becomes subject to his creation. Does not compute.

"Scheeben's mind reveled in speculating on Divine grace, the hypostatic union, the beatific vision, the all-pervading presence of God; he was a firm believer in visions granted to himself and others, and his piety was all-absorbing. Very few minds were attuned to his. His pupils were allegedly overawed by the steady flow of his long abstruse sentences which brought scanty light to their intellects; his colleagues and his friends but rarely disturbed the peace of the workroom where his spirit brooded over a chaos of literary matters." Matthias Joseph Scheeben - Wikipedia

In short, he was nuts.

I wouldn't say that matter is eternal, for God alone is eternal, but rather primordial. There is a difference.

God Is Spirit
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).

- John 4:24
Perhaps one of most insulting comments a Christian could ever hear from another person is “your God is too small.” As believers committed to the grandeur and majesty of God, we never want to be accused of having an inadequate conception of the Lord. We desire to love a God who is as great as Scripture describes.

As we continue our study of the divine attributes, we note that at times our discussion has been very abstract. These concepts can indeed be difficult to grasp at first, but they are essential to our spiritual well-being. We can only trust a Lord who is good, loving, holy, merciful, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and faithful as the biblical Creator truly is. At the same time, we recognize that we can study for a lifetime and only scratch the surface of His immensity. But this will be worth the effort, for as we deepen in our knowledge of Him, we will become ever more established in our faith (Heb. 5:11–14).

The verse we have selected for today’s study tells us that “God is spirit” (John 4:24). This may immediately conjure up images of a ghost or other such apparition, but we must be clear that to say the Lord is spirit does not mean He is wispy or ethereal. When Jesus says “God is spirit,” He simply teaches what the Father is like — divine, not limited by physical corporeality, life-giving, and incomprehensible.

As human beings we are defined by our locality. We can be localized at one particular place at one particular time. Though we are composed of body and spirit, our spirits are always where our bodies are, at least while we are alive. God, on the other hand, cannot be localized. When we say that He is spirit, we are saying that He is invisible, not contained. There is some analogical similarity between our spirits and the being of the Lord, but they are not identical.

To be physical is to have extensions. Our bodies extend out from our core to a definite boundary. However, our Father has no such extensions or limitations. We cannot be in more than one place at a time, but God is everywhere. Even our spirits have this limit (Luke 16:19–31), but God is forever omnipresent. We will examine this attribute more next week.

Coram Deo
Wherever our bodies are, there our spirits are as well. However, God does not have this limitation. He is as present in Moscow as He is in Washington and as is as present there as He is in the jungles of the Amazon. Think of how amazing that is — no matter where we find ourselves, the Lord is always at hand! Do you feel as if He is far from you today? Pray that He would make His presence felt and encourage another who feels like God is far away from him.

The Language of Scripture
“The sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies” (v. 13a).

- Joshua 10:1–15
Literal interpretation of the Bible doesn’t mean that we read the Scriptures in a wooden way. For example, we should read poetry as non-literal symbolic language. Instead, the purpose of literal interpretation is simply to read Scripture with an eye for understanding it according to its various literary forms and genres. As in other works of literature, a noun in the Bible is a noun, an adjective is an adjective, and so forth. God has revealed His Word in such a way that even those with minimal education can understand it (Deut. 6:6–9); He has not spoken in a code or in an obscure way that is accessible to only the spiritually elite or the most highly educated individuals.

To interpret Scripture literally and discern the original meaning of a text—the meaning the author intended to convey—we must have at least a basic knowledge of various literary forms and how they work. Today, we will consider two basic categories of non-literal language that Scripture employs. The first of these is phenomenological language, which describes the way things appear to the naked eye.

In everyday life, we are content to describe things the way they appear without always going into the precise science behind what we observe. For example, we still talk about the sun rising and setting even though we know that it is the earth that revolves around the sun and not the sun that revolves around the earth. It is not wrong for us to speak in such a way unless our intent is to give a scientifically precise description of astronomical movements. In a similar way, the Bible often uses phenomenological language, as in today’s passage where we read that the sun stood still during a battle (Josh. 10:13a). Scientifically speaking, God must have caused the earth to stop moving briefly, not the sun, in order for this to happen, but the intent of the text is not to give a science lesson about solar movements but to describe an incredible act of God that enabled the Israelites to win their fight.

The second kind of non-literal language we frequently find in Scripture is anthropomorphic language, which is language that describes God as having human attributes. Some passages, for example, speak of God as having fingers, eyes, or other physical body parts. But since God is spirit (John 4:24), we know that He cannot really possess these physical characteristics. The biblical authors simply use this kind of language to indicate that God sees or is aware of all that happens and is capable of acting when necessary.

Coram Deo
The Bible is not silent on topics related to science; however, it is not a science textbook. Understanding literary forms such as phenomenological language will assist us in not treating the Bible as something that it is not, thereby improving our interpretation of the text. Reading the Word of God carefully according to these forms will help keep us from asserting error and confusing people about the meaning of God’s revelation.

God's omnipresence disproves the claim that God is a physical being.

The Lord Witnesses Everything – Proverbs 15:3
Proverbs 15:3
The eyes of the LORD are in every place,
Watching the evil and the good.

God plainly states he is aware of everyone’s actions being a witness in every place watching both the good & evil. Dynamic passage showing a connection between omniscience and omnipresence.

Which makes sense if he will judge every single act in Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.”

Heaven Can’t Contain God – 1 Kings 8:27
1 Kings 8:27
“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built!

Solomon finishes building God’s temple and prays.

In his prayer he recognizes the temple to be God’s unique dwelling place among his people, but also that God is beyond the building. In fact he is beyond earth itself and nothing can contain his presence.

Solomon says “the highest heaven cannot contain you” literally the heavens of heavens cannot contain you (as noted by the NASB).

You Can’t Hide From God – Jeremiah 23:23 – 24
Jeremiah 23:23 – 24
“Am I a God who is near,” declares the LORD,
“And not a God far off?

“Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the LORD “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.

In Jeremiah 23 God begins by revealing his displeasure with the leaders of Israel who were dividing the kingdom.

At verse 9 God addresses the false prophets that claim God told them things when he hasn’t and those sharing visions of their own imagination as if they were from God.

In Jeremiah 23:23 – 24, God asks rhetorical questions “Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” to point out the ridiculousness of lying about God… As if God doesn’t know about it, He is a witness to all things, but we will discuss his omniscience in more detail in another post.

Similar to Job 31:24 “For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, And He sees all his steps”, Amos 9:2-3, Acts 17:27, Matthew 6:6, & Hebrews 4:13

Jesus is Omnipresent – Matthew 18:20
Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”

Jesus claims to be in the midst of all gatherings of the saints. How can Jesus be at 2 separate Christian gatherings at one moment (let alone every church on Sunday). This is another great supporting verse for the divinity of Jesus.

Omnipresence Defined – Psalm 139:7 – 12
Psalm 139:7-12
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,”
Even the darkness is not dark to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You

If someone asked me where to find the doctrine of omnipresence in the bible I’d show them this Psalm. This takes us back to Mark’s question for the definition of Omnipresence.

He Dwells High and With The Low – Isaiah 57:15
Isaiah 57:15
For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, “I dwell on a high and holy place, And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.

This text is more about why God dwells with his people; nevertheless he is in heaven and on earth with his elect who are spiritually bankrupt (see the beatitudes about these spiritually bankrupted).

Don Stewart :: Is God Everywhere at Once? (Omnipresent)
Don Stewart
The Bible teaches that God is everywhere present—omnipresent. In every place in the universe God is present. He is not limited by space. The psalmist wrote:

Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend into heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, you are there; if I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you (Psalm 139:7-12).

David said that God's presence couldn't be eluded through space (verse 8), speed (verse 9), or darkness verse 12). In other words, nothing in the universe can hide a person from God.

God's Form Is Not Spread Out

This is not to say that God's form is spread out so that parts of Him exist in every location. God is spirit; He has no physical form. He is present everywhere in that everything is immediately in His presence. At the same time He is present everywhere in the universe. No one can hide from Him and nothing escapes His notice.

Nobody Can Hide From God

The prophet Amos records God as saying that no one can hide from Him:

Though they dig into hell, from there my hand shall take them; though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down; and though they hide themselves on top of Carmel, from there I will search and take them; though they hide from my sight at the bottom of the sea, from there I will command the serpent, and it shall bite them (Amos 9:2,3).

In the Book of Jeremiah God says:

‘Am I a God near at hand,' says the Lord, ‘and not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him?' . . . ‘do I not fill heaven and earth?' says the Lord? (Jeremiah 23:23,24).

The Bible is clear that there is no place in the universe that is away from God's presence. His presence is everywhere.

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it" (Genesis 28:15,16).

God Is Everywhere Present

Scripture testifies that God is present in both heaven and earth at the same time.

Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the Lord, he is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other (Deuteronomy 4:39).

In Jericho, Rahab the prostitute acknowledged.

When we heard it, our hearts melted and no courage remained in any man any longer because of you; for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above and on earth beneath (Joshua 2:11).

In Proverbs we read.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good (Proverbs 15:3).

Isaiah wrote.

Thus says the Lord, "Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool. Where then is a house you could build for me? And where is a place that I may rest?" (Isaiah 66:1).

The People Recognized That God Always Saw Them

From earliest times, people recognized that God saw them wherever they went. Hagar said.

Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees;" for she said, "Have I even remained alive here after seeing him?" (Genesis 16:13).

The idea that God is everywhere present is not the same as Pantheism – God is the same as the universe. Pantheism equates God and the universe. The doctrine of God's omnipresence says that He is present everywhere in the universe – not that He is the universe.

This Is A Comforting Truth For The Believer

The fact that God is everywhere present is a constant source of comfort for believers. Wherever the believer may go, they will find themselves in the protection of God's presence. There is no place where a believer can get away from God's reach. His presence may be experienced at any time and at any place. God has promised the believer that He is with them always.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you (Isaiah 43:2).

In the Book of Hebrews we read.

For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).

Summary

The universe that God created finds the Creator everywhere. He is everywhere present. There is no place that a person can hide and no chance that a believer will out of His protective care. He is everywhere present in His works and in His personality. This does not mean that God is the same as the universe – merely that His presence is everywhere in the universe. The truth of God's omnipresence if comforting for the believer for no one can escape God's notice.

III. GOD IS OMNIPRESENT

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.”
— Psalm 139:7-10, ESV
One additional term theologians use to describe God is "omnipresent." It's a term that means God is "all-present" or present everywhere at once. There isn't a location I could travel to where I could escape His presence. This is what David was expressing in Psalm 139. This is also a lesson the Lord taught Jonah and many others who mistakenly believed they could successfully flee from His presence.

It's wise, healthy, and a sign of spiritual maturity, to become gradually more conscious of the presence of God. I believe we make much healthier decisions in life when our awareness of God's presence with us is heightened. Typically, as we foster the spiritual discipline of prayer, our awareness of God's presence with us grows. We talk to Him, because He's near. We listen to Him, because He's near. We visibly observe His miraculous intervention in our lives, because He's near. Our hearts find peace, because He's near.

God made His presence quite clear when He took on flesh and walked among us. Jesus Christ, God the Son, walked our streets, ate our food, felt our pain, died our death, and rose to life as the first fruits of the coming resurrection for all who believe in Him. We aren't worshipping a God who is aloof and distant from us. We worship the Lord who is intimately acquainted with all aspects of our experience.

Hebrews 4:14-16 - Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

One final thing I'd like to say about God's omnipresence is this... Don't make the mistake of applying this attribute to anyone else. Only God can be all places at once. No one else has this capacity. I mention this because I have often heard well-meaning believers mistakenly assume that Satan also possesses this capacity. Like us, Satan is a created being. And like us, he can only be in one place at one time. He is not all-powerful. He is not all-knowing, and he is not all-present. Mistakenly assuming that Satan possesses attributes that only God possesses can cause us to live in fear when God's desire for us is that we live with a confident faith that isn't easily shaken due to misinformation or lack of knowledge.

It's fascinating to consider the nature and the attributes of our God, particularly as we consider the implications of His omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence.
