Diner pulls gun on armed BLM protestors

Louisville diner pulls gun on armed BLM protestors in shocking video
A diner pulled a gun on armed Black Lives Matter protesters . A restaurant worker told police “that multiple armed protesters entered the restaurant property, which included outdoor dining space,” Five protest related arrests were made, including a suspect charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and first-degree wanton endangerment of an officer

Well that was a hot mess. I'm glad for the arrests; because, someone is going to get killed with this stuff. And patrons and business people should not feel threatened for events etc. that they were not directly involved in.

I live and work in Louisville, and this city has been out of control for 11 months. They won't let it rest, and inept Mayor Greg Fischer and Governor Beshear have let them destroy the city we so love.

Because it was Derby, the protesters made an extra effort to cause trouble to ruin the most significant annual event in the city and drive away tourists. Their motto, "no justice, no peace" is modified to "no justice, no Derby."

The new police chief, who was run out of the same job in Atlanta after that Wendy's shooting a year ago, publicly pleaded with the protestors for their cooperation during the Derby festivities. They laughed. Of course, her hands are tied by Fischer, so that pitiful plea was probably all she was allowed to do.

I'm grateful for the arrests. They really ought to go after the organizers and get them off the streets. No peace, no freedom.

It’s such a disgrace how they misquote Rev Martin Luther twisting his words into an threatening ultimatum instead of a plea for equality and justice as he intend it. I wish he were here today to set them straight.

I knew it's only be a matter of time before certain types of more "confrontational" protests run into some "confrontational" opposition.

"A restaurant worker told police “that multiple armed protesters entered the restaurant property, which included outdoor dining space,”

Combine that with the fact that multiple protestors were openly carrying, and entering restaurant property (5 other arrests were made for people who were part of that protest group...so I'm assuming their reasons for entering the restaurant property weren't to "grab a burger and chill with the locals". If I had to speculate, they were probably looking to be confrontational, and thought that a few of their own being armed would deter any pushback from any patrons that may be armed (since it was Kentucky after all). A large group of shouting masked people (a few of which armed) is likely going to be enough to put a lot of people "on-edge" so to speak.

I'd be interested to see if the full video (leading up to the encounter) is out there anywhere, if it even exists.

I found this one which contains slightly more footage
Black Lives Matter protesters, gun-carrying patron clash in Louisville

Up until now, a lot of those types of more confrontational "let's terrorize patrons at restaurants" protests have occurred in locales like NY or in DC where people have much more limited "self defense options" we'll call it.

Protesters cause diners to flee in panic as they 'shut down' a restaurant in Rochester | Daily Mail Online

There are a lot of states where people are allowed to carry more freely, and they're not going to be to receptive to sitting idly by while people threaten them, start flipping tables and breaking glasses near peoples' faces, or cornering women they outnumber 50-to-1 like what happened in DC and Rochester NY

You lack context of what these protesters have been doing to innocent people trying to have dinner. I wish I could find the horrifying video of what is described below. But I'm guessing the guy with the gun was aware.

I whole reason I go to restaurants packing my heat is so I can feel secure and dine in peace. They should pass a law that forbids people from having a gun in a restaurant unless they buy something.

It happened at the Kentucky Derby last year as well, which was in September because of Covid. There you have a lot of people visiting from out of town, who may not think they have to be armed to enjoy a casual night of dining. At Fourth Street Live last year, protesters literally flipped the tables diners were sitting at.

Blacks are less than 14% of Americans. They committed more murders than any other group.

According to the FBI, African-Americans accounted for 55.9% of all homicide offenders in 2019, with whites 41.1%, and "Other"/Unknown 3.0% in cases where the race was known. Among homicide victims in 2019 where the race was known, 54.7% were black or African-American, 42.3% were white, and 3.1% were of other races.” Wikipedia Public Domain

If a police officer is ambushed and killed, Black Lives Matter will not show up to protest. When a black was killed by a police officer, some of them looted and committed arson. More blacks were killed by blacks than by anyone else. It is difficult to organize protests against black people killing people.

If a person pulls a gun and points it at you, should you shoot that person? The person who pulled a gun first should get shot, then you're standing your ground, right?
The irony is laughable isn't it?

So in your opinion, the guy who pulled the gun on the protesters was justified in his provocative act because of something that happened in the past?

He was justifiably concerned about what the protesters were capable of.

I have no idea if he was justified in pulling out his gun, because I didn't see him pull it out or what that was in response to. Did you?

His "concern" translated into his pulling his gun.I did not see him pull the gun out. But, the video clearly showed the gun in his hand. I wonder if he was one of those arrested . If not, why not?

Not necessarily. Point #2 in the Kentucky law (posted below) states the defendant must believe that shooting the other person is necessary to prevent unlawful physical force by the other party. While juries can give unpredictable decisions, I'm betting a jury would see the protesters as the aggressors, and the man with the gun as only wanting to keep from being bothered.

503.050 Use of physical force in self-protection -- Admissibility of evidence of prior acts of domestic violence and abuse.
(1) The use of physical force by a defendant upon another person is justifiable when the defendant believes that such force is necessary to protect himself against the use or imminent use of unlawful physical force by the other person.

(2) The use of deadly physical force by a defendant upon another person is justifiable under subsection (1) only when the defendant believes that such force is necessary to protect himself against death, serious physical injury, kidnapping, sexual intercourse compelled by force or threat, felony involving the use of force, or under those circumstances permitted pursuant to KRS 503.055.

(3) Any evidence presented by the defendant to establish the existence of a prior act or acts of domestic violence and abuse as defined in KRS 403.720 by the person against whom the defendant is charged with employing physical force shall be admissible under this section.

(4) A person does not have a duty to retreat prior to the use of deadly physical force.

I can't think of a law violation they could charge him with. Can you?

You're quoting a statute related to domestic violence, is he in an intimate relationship with one of the protesters?
