Please hear now, the best news ever. Trump could have never ever done what Biden is fixing to do for the American people:

"Anybody making less than $400k a year will not pay a single penny in taxes"

@23:09, for the entire nation to hear:

Best President ever. Please, everyone give a big cheer for no taxation. How awesome is this news!!??
Do I have to point out that if Trump had made a misstatement like that every MSM outlet would be pointing it out as an outrageous intentional lie. Through April 26, Biden has made 67 false or misleading statements, according to a Washington Post Fact Checker. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2021/biden-fact-checker-100-days/

This is great for Biden: when people are trying to find negatives on him and they come up with.... this.

"poor kids are just as smart as white kids"

"you ain't black"

"you know the thing"

I mean the list of mental and thus verbal slips are evident and clear. The rambling on about Cornpop and his leg hair was, there's so many more...almost every speech, and when they 25th him and install Harris, everyone will nod and say they saw the issues the whole time.

Biden has been a gaffe master for decades. A cringe moment is never too far off. Keep looking for it!

He's obviously talking about new taxes. Even ignoring the fact that he has been saying for months that if you make less then $400K you will not see an increase in taxes, the context of the speech makes it clear what he meant. Immediately before the part you quoted, he talked about raising taxes. He probably forgot to say the word "new" but considering this is a message he's been hammering for months, there is no real way to not get what he meant.
When did "context" become the new determiner of what was meant? For the past four years, it was either the strictly literal meaning and nothing but the strictly meaning...or else it was "What alternate meaning can we assign to what was said?"

And if he is forced to raise taxes on the general populace then that will have been a major mistake. Please note that Biden did not say "No new taxes". His claim, was that only the very well off would see a raise in their taxes. A tax increase is coming. The question is who will it affect?

While it was clearly a gaffe on his part...

However, even in a non-gaffe context (which, it's pretty obvious he omitted the "new" sentiment in that quote), I think many overlook the fact that without accompanying measures...

"You won't have to pay any additional income tax if you make less than $400k/year" is a far cry from "you won't be impacted by these new taxes"

Tax proposals like the ones he's making bank on the fact that people tend to only look at these types of proposals very superficially and tend not to delve deeper into it to consider certain ripple effects that will end up impacting them.

For instance, a proposed raising of the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28% will impact a lot of people who don't own a business or make > 400k per year. It may not be in the form of the line item of "federal withholding" on your pay stub, but it can certain still impact you.

For example, if you're working for a company that has a flatline year, and their tax obligation is now larger than what it was last year, that impact may come in the form of not getting a raise this year, layoffs, certain company perks being discontinued, etc... in order to get the numbers to where they need to be.

It also could come in the form of a company shifting what are known as "intangible assets" (and the related profits) elsewhere. Now, he's attempting to address that one:
"The Biden Administration is seeking through multilateral negotiations to have other countries join in establishing a global minimum tax to prevent countries from seeking a competitive advantage by cutting corporate tax rates."

However, that's a long shot as it's basically asking other countries to adjust their tax structures (and jeopardize some of their own revenue streams and jobs) for the sake of making his plan work domestically. That's going to be a very tough sell as several other countries like having large operations within their borders from US multinational corporations as it provides revenue and jobs for them. And it's not just sketchy off-shore locations as some would think. Belgium likes have Budweiser call them their corporate home, as does Switzerland with Purina pet foods.

So in order to make the "tax increases only on people making > 400k and corporations" truly be impact-free to everyone making less than that amount...a litany of mitigation measures would need to be enacted along side of it aimed at preventing those entities from finding indirect ways to transfer that burden over to the "common folk".

Sounds pretty stupid to me how is that ever going to work? As if America wasn’t in enough debt already how many trillions of dollars will the treasury lose with this stupid idea? Yeah it sounds great on the surface but what are the long term effects?

Gonna have to gut a lot of federal programs to make it work. Making medicare and SSI optional would be a major first step.

Isn't SSI already optional? Perhaps you meant a different term. One has to apply for SSI, that only happens with optional programs.

And making medicare optional might not be a good idea. It would give people to much motivation to cut it and harm the poorer elderly as a result. Medical insurance gets outrageously expensive after one is 65.

By the way, I agree with Bernie on a national healthcare program. Right now the U.S overpays and is underserved compared to wester European countries.

I am forced to pay into it, so it's involuntary.

Elderly spent their whole lives paying into it, they're good. If what they paid can't cover them, then it's a defunct system and we all need to be out of it as expediently as possible.

Single-payer removes what little right we have to advocate for our own treatments. Ask any veteran what they think of the VA; that's what Bernie would put us all under. R&D would suffer, and wait times would go through the roof (look at Canada and the UK). No thanks, more people would die as a result. The state doesn't need to dictate my treatment plans to me nor my doctors. That's between me and them only. Want to fix the costs problem? Have your state repeal their CON law if they have one. We're working on it here in NC. No more $4000 MRIs...try $500 out-of-pocket.

If that's important to Americans they should boycott those companies.
