Just live practically and prudently, holding what God has given you with an open hand in case he needs you to share it with someone in need. For instance, if you budget and give regularly and save regularly instead of living paycheck to paycheck, you'll have more freedom to help someone buy a tool they need for an unexpected repair. Or, if you overhear unsaved coworkers talking about cracking open a C.S. Lewis book that you haven't read, you have the money on hand to pick up a copy, read it, and talk to them about it. Or, here's an idea - if there is a clothing drive, and clothes are on sale, you have the money to buy up some clothes to donate.

Is it worth doing some reading as well, to enrich your understanding of God at work in the world, and where you might find your place in that?

A book like Hardy and Yarnell's Missional Discipleship After Christendom might be a good place to start.

I have this question! How should I prepare for something if I am not sure what to prepare for since I don't know what I am waiting on God for?
Read the word and keep in prayer, listen for that still small voice.

Unless you are looking for a 'plum' position there's no lack of opportunities. There are thousands (possibly millions) of volunteer and/or ministerial type openings that are unfulfilled.

I am wanting a volunteer position.

Then get a piece of paper and a pen, go into Google and type volunteers wanted name of your town, hit enter.
Write down the names and contact details of the places wanting volunteers, repeat for neighbouring towns.
Pick up your phone and start calling.

You will quickly get a volunteer place.

I'm currently in the very same situation you are in. Just continue to wait without grumbling. There is a christian song called "Trust and obey, there's no other way". What else can we do.

God knits us together in the womb and gives us talents and abilities and most of all he gives us a voice. But planet earth isn't a giant chess board or game with God making all the moves. You're not a pawn so make a move; use your voice and don't be afraid to stumble. We all do ...

Welcome! We are to prepare for Him, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He comes as a thief in the night. All other preparations are of this world. Be blessed.

Dear one,
Wait for His steadfast love every day.
Prepare for the day of His coming.
Set your mind on the things of the Spirit.

I pretty much agree with this post.

It's certain that if you're careful to do God's general will for all of His children, you will be well prepared - and able to see clearly - God's particular will just for you. Prepare yourself to do God's will by doing God's will:

- Love Him with all of your being (Matthew 22:36-38)
- Love your Christian brethren self-sacrificially (1 John 3:14)
- Study God's word carefully (Psalms 1; Psalms 119:102-105; Matthew 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- Live in daily submission to God (Romans 6:22; Romans 8:14; Romans 12:1; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:6)
- Live a holy life (Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; Ephesians 1:3-4; Ephesians 2:18-22; Ephesians 5:27, etc.)
- Share the Gospel with the lost (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 2; Romans 10:12-15; 1 Corinthians 2:2, etc.)

The essence of your existence, the purpose of it, is to know God (2 Timothy 1:12; Ephesians 1:15-17; Philippians 3:7-8; Colossians 1:9-10, etc.), and in knowing Him, to love Him (1 John 4:16-17; Matthew 22:36-38), and in loving Him, to glorify Him (Matthew 5:16; John 15:8; Romans 15:5-6; 1 Corinthians 6:19; 1 Corinthians 10:31, etc.). When you are living to this end, you will be living the life for which you were made - a life you can live (and must live) whether you are a janitor, or delivery driver, lawyer, engineer or surgeon.
