So what happens when the sin of a person or group of persons is full?

Ge 15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

A question for discussion.

New testament reference.

Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

The question is: When sin matures, what happens?

Have you experienced the fullness of iniquity or seen it come to fruition for someone else at one point in your life?

The fullness of sin is the second death. Be blessed.

In a sense, if the church has been consistently committing a sin, and it reached fulfillment - it would be unfortunate for anyone who is a part of that church.

Since questions like this don't tend to result in a contemplative response - not sure how many churches will fall this way.

That's all - I said it, not responsible if it happens anywhere.

The Catholic Church teaches that the more one sins the more we’re changed, tending away from love. And that there are some kinds of sins that are so grave or serious in nature that they directly attack and oppose love and destroy it in us such that persistence in such behavior destroys relationship with God. This is “sin that leads to death”, 1 John 5:15-17, i.e mortal sin.

Thanks for the commentary.

Is there any teaching on how corporate bodies can be affected by sharing in the same sin along the same lines?

Can you elaborate a bit more? I’m not sure I understand the question. But in any case sin can also be recognized/acknowledged as members of groups begin to suffer from it, are convicted, and repent, God chastising those He loves.

For example, in a church - if the bishop is in sin and it is not yet public, can this spiritually affect those under his ministry?

Ge 15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

So... what exactly was the iniquity of the Amorites?

"The Amorite is called Amar on the Egyptian monuments, Amurra in the cuneiform tablets of Tel el-Amarna. As has already been remarked, the name was applied to the district which lay immediately to the north of Palestine, and included the sacred city of Kadesh on the Orontes, which afterwards became a stronghold of the Hittites. ... A comparison of the head of an Amorite with that of a Shasu suggests that the second is a degraded form of the first. The pointedness of the nose is exaggerated in the Shasu, and his receding forehead contrasts unfavourably with the profile of the Amorite; but on the whole there are certain resemblances between them which lead to the possibility that both are referable to the same original type. ... It thus becomes probable that the blond Shasu of the Egyptian monuments were an Amorite tribe of nomadic habits who were on that account classed with the other 'Plunderers’ or Bedawin of the desert by the Egyptian scribes."
--Sayce, Races of the Old Testament, p.111, 113, 117.

And of course we see the receding forehead of the Shasu in their Hittite ancestors.

"The Amorites also occupied the whole of the mountainous district of Syria and Palestine from the neighbourhood of Kadesh in the north to the desert southward
of Judah, and on the eastern side of the Jordan they founded the two kingdoms of Bashan and Heshbon. In the mountains of Moab and Seir they formed the aboriginal population, partially dispossessed by the Semitic tribes of Moab, Ammon, and Edom, and the name of Horite under which they went in Edom is best explained as meaning “white,” in contradistinction to the Semitic Edomite or “red-man.” A passage in the Pentateuch (Numbers xiii. 29) expressly states that along with the Hittites and Jebusites they inhabited the mountainous region, while the Canaanites dwelt on the coast and the valley of the Jordan. That Jebusite simply means a cross between Hittite and Amorite is clear from the statement of Ezekiel (xvi. 3, 4, 5) that Jerusalem, whose old name of Jebus gave rise to that of Jebusite, was born of a Hittite mother and an Amorite father. The Egyptian monuments bear witness to the same “interlocking” of Hittite and Amorite."
--Sayce, The White Race of Palestine

So, apparently, the advent of the Hittites into Amurru and the intermixing of these two tribes is what made the iniquity of the Amorites come to the full... because the Hittites were warriors. The Amorites are the writers of Ugarit which spoke Hebrew. Clay writes of them in his books on the Amurru and the Empire of the Amorites, etc. In any case, the Shasu of Yhw is being discovered all over the web.

"Fill ye up" the measure of those that were before you is here also

Mat 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

Mat 23:32 "Fill ye up" then the measure of your fathers

Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Then here also

1Thes 2:14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

1Thes 2:15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

"to full up their sins"

1Thes 2:16 Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

The wrath of God coming upon them to the uttermost there

Here could be a picture of filling up ones sins (as they reach heaven)

Rev 18:5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

Rev 18:6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

Which in the end shows him avenging them of her and says to them

Rev 18:20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

That could be another one

This was a great problem for Asaph in the 73rd Psalm

1 Surely God is good to Israel,
To those who are pure in heart!
2 But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling,
My steps had almost slipped.
3 For I was envious of the arrogant
As I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no pains in their death,
And their body is fat.
5 They are not in trouble as other men,
Nor are they plagued like mankind.
6 Therefore pride is their necklace;
The garment of violence covers them.
7 Their eye bulges from fatness;
The imaginations of their heart run riot.
8 They mock and wickedly speak of oppression;
They speak from on high.
9 They have set their mouth against the heavens,
And their tongue parades through the earth.

10 Therefore his people return to this place,
And waters of abundance are drunk by them.
11 They say, “How does God know?
And is there knowledge with the Most High?”
12 Behold, these are the wicked;
And always at ease, they have increased in wealth.
13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure
And washed my hands in innocence;
14 For I have been stricken all day long
And chastened every morning.

15 If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children.
16 When I pondered to understand this,
It was troublesome in my sight
17 Until I came into the sanctuary of God;
Then I perceived their end.
18 Surely You set them in slippery places;
You cast them down to destruction.
19 How they are destroyed in a moment!
They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!
20 Like a dream when one awakes,
O Lord, when aroused, You will despise their form.

21 When my heart was embittered
And I was pierced within,
22 Then I was senseless and ignorant;
I was like a beast before You.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
24 With Your counsel You will guide me,
And afterward receive me to glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For, behold, those who are far from You will perish;
You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You.
28 But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.

It was also a serious problem for Job and his three friends, as well as the sons of Korah (Psalm 49).

Why do the wicked flourish and the righteous die young?

Ge 15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

A question for discussion.

New testament reference.

Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

The question is: When sin matures, what happens?

Have you experienced the fullness of iniquity or seen it come to fruition for someone else at one point in your life?

And the LORD said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.” (Genesis 18:20-21)

Sisters and brothers, note what the verse says, “their sin is very grievous.” What is sin? Sin is the transgression of the law (I John 3:4). This indicates to us that the law was around long before the Prophet Moses came into the picture.

Let’s continue:

And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes: Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it. And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake. And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake. And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place. (Genesis 18:22-33)

Abraham was pretty bold don’t you think? But he got the lord down to ten people.

We coming up on a time that never been before. Jesus says in Matthew 24: 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

We are living in the last days Brothers and Sisters. let's take a look at whats going on today in 2 Timothy 3: 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. So the Earth is about do for a change over.
