McConnell: No Senate Republicans will back Biden on $4T (msn.com)

Obstructionism in full force not even 4 months into Biden's presidency - I'm not surprised.

As I see it, they are worried that the money they are handed every year might be in part handed to someone else; that's on top of their worries that their special interest donors might not get their way over the interests of the people of the USA.

Good. Hopefully they will continue to do so. Spending is out of control.
No, it's bad. Spending is not enough where needed and giving up revenue by handing it back to the rich is hurting the nation. The Republicans should be backing this and putting America's interests over their own political special interests.

He’s not against spending. If Biden wants it for infrastructure (which is really doubtful) he will compromise and listen to the 600 billion plan that McConnell has mentioned.

I didn't say he's against spending. He's FOR spending - on his own state and his fellow Republicans' states and special interests (i.e. the wealthy donors). That's just the problem.

Don't know why it's "really doubtful" that Biden wants to spend on infrastructure but that's what he's laying out there and I'm sure he will. I'm sure he'll also spend on social programs which is long overdue as well. McConnell's $600 billion does not adequately address the needs and allows for wealth to continue to be redistributed from the middle class to the wealthiest classes.

And now you know why I’m doubtful. It’s not an infrastructure plan. It’s a socialism plan.

Well, I, for one, would like to thank Senator McConnell for being thoughtful enough to lay out the GOP's strategy ahead of time.

Now Biden simply has to make sure he gets all the Democrats on board, and VP Harris can cast the tiebreaker.

That's not socialism. If social programs are socialism then so is infrastructure. But neither is.

You're right

Of course you can be danged sure that when that money goes out to their citizens they take credit for it...just like the last round.

So it isn't REALLY a principled stance.

Just a reminder there is no free lunch. Everything that is spent has to come from we the people. Take a close look at where the funds are going and it will be clear why the Reps and also Dems who want to get reelected will not back irresponsible spending. It is so much fun using the credit card but it is not so much fun when the bill needs to be paid at the end of the month.

Well, we can always cut taxes again -- the Right seems to love that.

Yep, the GOP loses some elections and suddenly deficit spending matters again. Just like clockwork.

Do you believe spending is under control? (And I’m not GOP.)

Yup, that's Biden has to do. He has to convince the senator of one of the most conservative states to go for another $2t of spending and then another $2T.

It's just not happening. The struggle is not for Republican votes. The struggle is for Manchin's vote and his agreement to accept the idea of passing the bill with only 60 votes.

Manchin will speak and work with Republicans, and he will negotiate with Biden, not for their votes, but for his.

As far as any more than the infrastructure bill, I suspect Manchin will not support a
$2T social spending bill.

What we NEED is for Manchin to vote to have the filibuster not apply to voting rights legislation.
