And so what happens if someone needs to go to the hospital for help? Or are you just talking about visiting people?

I'm talking about visiting people. I'm not sure how those policies apply to patients/residents.

Johnson & Johnson vaccine is NOT mRNA

To elaborate:

Pfeizer and Moderna are mRNA based
J&J, AZ, Sputnik and Convidecia are Adenovirus based
both Sinopharm vaccines, CoronaVac, Covaxin and CoviVac are inactivated virus based
EpiVacCorona and RBD-Dimer are protein subunit based.

Got my 2nd Pfizer shot this afternoon. There was a steady stream of people getting vaccinated while I was there; one older couple with their adult daughter and maybe about 10 young guys in their late 20s or early 30s. People were asking at the pharmacy counter about how to sign up for it too. The pharmacist on duty was at first giving people a print out about how to sign up online, then later he was telling people he would make them an appointment for the next day. It's encouraging to see the demand in my area. 2 hours out and I'm just more tired than usual.

As of right now I am making the decision not to get the vaccine. If they are as safe and effective as they say they are, why does the CDC still recommend we wear masks after getting vaccinated? I am not going to go as far as to say I will never get the vaccine, but I much rather see how things go with all the guinea pigs who voluntarily took the vaccine before I receive it myself.

I was vaccinated in March because I went back to work for the military. I told them I didn't need it because I took the Clorox injections last year and they just stared at me like I was crazy.

I really appreciate everyone’s replies to this thread and to the poll. Just a small request if you’ve answered that you had one of two shots of you could please update your answer to fully vaccinated once you get your second shot. I feel like seeing the big numbers of vaccinated people helps encourage others who might be on the fence still.

You realize we're still trying to get everyone vaccinated right? If you get infected between the 2 rounds of the more common ones I've heard people get, then you have to start over or get another booster. The point is to mitigate spread, the masks are the factor in regards to that. And they don't say that's required EVERYWHERE, but if you're engaging with unvaccinated people, then masks help slow the spread in terms of the airborne droplets, which are the most common vector seemingly versus surface based concerns we had last year that may have been a bit much (but better safe than sorry, correct?)

If I'm a guinea pig, then I doubt you have anything to worry about, this is hardly experimental in that it's super new, the concept and execution has seemingly been a thing for about a generation (20 years), it's not anything as sinister as you want to make it out to be.

It’s so odd how the human brain works. In some cases, we can be so creative and perceptive. And at other times, we’re completely irrational. Especially in how we perceive risk. Statistically, the Covid vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. As per the article, there have been about 2,500 vaccine related fatalities out of 158,000,000 vaccinated persons. That’s 0.0017%. Same as being struck by lightening. The risk of dying in a car crash is about 1 in 100. But driving a car is a familiar situation. And there’s a sense that we have some measure of control. Getting a brand new vaccine is a novel event. And once we get it, we have no control over the results. So we fear it even though all available evidence indicates that the risk of a bad outcome is minuscule. As I said, it’s just how our brains work. In many people, decision-making in an unfamiliar setting is strongly affected by the emotional brain rather than the analytical brain. A neuroscientist might say our amygdala overrides our pre-frontal cortex.

"Boucher said this type of vaccine has been in use for years, most recently during Ebola outbreaks. The adenovirus causes the common cold. In this case, researchers added genetic codes for SARS-CoV-2 to that cold virus. When it's delivered via vaccine, it teaches the body how to make antibodies, priming the immune system against future infection.

Boucher said these kinds of vaccines have been studied extensively and are safe."

What are the results of the two and five year studies?

To be determined.

But the excess risk of death due to Covid has been calculated. From a Forbes article last October—before the vaccines were released:

One approach is to compare how much Covid-19 has increased the annual chance of death so far in 2020. For the total population, for every 100 non-Covid-19 deaths (i.e., from all other causes), there have been 10.3 Covid-19 deaths, implying that Covid-19 has increased the risk of dying in 2020 by about 10 percent for the average American [1].

These stats are not exactly the same. But compare the 0.017% death rate related to vaccines, to a 10% increased risk of dying if an unimmunized person contracts Covid-19. Seems to me that at the current time, the risk/benefit ratio favors vaccination.

Exactly. So it’s not the same as other vaccines.

mRNA technology has been around for decades. These are the first widely used vaccines based on it. But this was a global health emergency. Just in the US, there were well over 500,000 more deaths in 2020 than in 2019. That’s an unheard of jump in a single year. At least 85% of those are due to Covid. A vaccine was needed ASAP.

And I’ll remind you that it was Donald Trump and the Republican Congress who gave over $12 billion to several drug companies to come up with Covid vaccines at “Warp Speed.”

Apparently it's totally different if they're just investing in it and making money, but let's not forget how they poo-pooed the most basic of safety measures when they already knew it was a thing and not "just the flu" like they spun it to their sycophantic followers
