Well. John describes Jesus returning to judge and to usher in a new heavens and new earth. This is part of what "must shortly come to pass". So, yes. Unless you believe that this has already happened, it must be talking about a longer period of time than John's lifetime or even what we've seen of church history so far.

Wow! You mean there was MORE information attached to that 'shortly come to pass' clause??? Glad you recognized it, while others here seem to struggle with that.

IMHO, the letters to the churches tell us what was happening even as John was writing. Smyrna is probably the first church of the persecution, and Philadelphia will be the last one before the Great Tribulation. I used to believe like a lotta people around me, that these churches were indicative of all the centuries. But I see them as a weeding-out process done by Jesus... with warning upon warning... some paid attention, some didn't. Thyatira split into Sardis and Philadelphia.

I believe all 7 Messages are still in effect for all... Churches today. It's just a matter of looking at what each one was up to and compare with the Church one attends.

The two Churches of Smyrna and Philadelphia Lord Jesus had no problem with. They represent His very elect that cannot be deceived at the end. Those making up these two Churches today are spread out in all nations, and are aware of the coming events upon the whole world just prior to Christ's return. The other five Churches are not aware, and many in them will be deceived, which aligns with Jesus' warnings to them about the day of His coming.

Jesus said this to the Church at Thyatira, speaking to those there that weren't involved in its sins...

Rev 2:25-26
25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
KJV

That's pretty much self-explanatory that His Messages to the 7 Churches apply continuously all the way up to His future coming.

I look at the two churches with nothing bad said of them as the two witnesses. I see them as the two fishes which feed the multitudes, and the five loaves as the five wise virgins.
I agree that they are scattered over the earth. But they have already come out of her so that they receive not of her sins... or at least the watching ones have. (tick tock, remnant, tick tock)

Jezebel is clearly Babylon before God casts her onto a bed of harlotry. At the time of the Revelation, she was already spreading within the church those doctrines which belong to other gods.

The false prophet and his doctrine

Deuteronomy 13:1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Beware the doctrine of the Pharisees: 12 baskets-full overwhelms the five loaves.
