Why do we need prophets when we have the bible? Well, the simple answer is it is one of the gifts Jesus gave to the church to help equip us until He returns. (Ephesians 4: 9-16)

There are many attributes to this gift and one of them covered in this video is timing. Will you listen? Will you prepare and be ready? God uses prophets to tell us what time it is. Another way of saying it is -Do you know what time it is? And will you be ready?

Hey honey, "Do you know all the money you borrowed and gambled away, well the bill is coming due to pay it back! what are you going to do about it?"

Do we need prophets?
What other useful attributes of a prophet have you thought of?
Or do we need Jesus’s ministry at all today or can we each go it on our own? What do think?
Here’s a short video on some thoughts on that subject I made.

I'm still not aware of why you didn't tell the journalist which church you came from. I come from a Church that believes that the preincarnate Jesus spoke with Moses face to face as a man speaks to his friend, who later gave up His glorified body to be born of a woman as a flesh and blood man, was later crucified and rose from the dead. What other Church is there?

Yes we need prophets, badly.

I agree with what is said in your video. I would simplify the main purpose of Prophets though. I would say their main purpose is to express the heart of God to others. That can manifest in many different ways depending on what type of prophet one is. The second is as you said, teaching/training others. All believers are anointed to be prophetic to some extent, just as all believers can and should evangelize to some extent. Prophets help example and guide the rest of the Body in the prophetic anointings & graces.

There are countless things things the Lord would reveal that are necessary for right now, immediate, that only hearing the voice of the Lord will answer.
For such things, no amount of bible knowledge will give the answer.

ie. I'm in the UK driving about 55mph along a familiar country road on a wet night. There's about 3 cars ahead led by a dawdler. I know there only are a couple of places where I can overtake, so am preparing myself for that when suddenly, I hear the Holy Spirit, "Pull back, pull back, pull back!"

There was an urgency about that voice so I immediately take my foot off the throttle and cover the brake pedal instead. The car starts to drift with the other cars now pulling ahead.

Despite being fully alert, I was no way prepared for the huge black thing that lurched over the hedge, landing smack in front of us.
My foot hit the floor and we skidded, the impact scooping the creature up the bonnet and over the roof.

My wife was deeply shaken and covered in glass but otherwise ok. I climbed out to see a bellowing cow get up on its feet behind the car and amble off into the following cars that had been in my wake.

Thanks to the advance warning from the Lord, the damage was very minor, with the passenger side wing mirror being flipped back and smashing the side window into my wife's lap. The mud from the cow was spread the full width of the car, all over the unbroken windscreen and roof.

Had I impacted at the original speed, there's no doubt the creature would have come through the windscreen and killed us.

When I give this testimony, there are those cynics who immediately point out that had I not slowed down, the car would have been well beyond that point in the road when the cow jumped.

However, there is another side to the story. My wife and I were deeply involved in a major move of God in the business community, and were returning from one of their regional meetings. I knew that Satan was determined to destroy us and this was yet another attempt to take us out. The Lord showed me that the leap of that cow over the hedge not random, but driven by demons with goads standing behind it waiting for my car to pass.

Knowing the prophetic voice of the Lord had saved our lives.

Great stories1

For me, when it is your testimony from experience that the Holy Spirit gives you when God moves in your life because you believe proving God's word true is worth much more than many words as long as it lines up with the word of God or doesn't go against it.

Too many times folks have a lot of theories. That's what I call them but until lived out they remain theories. I think they forget we have new testament writings because people lived out there faith before and after after Christ's ascension. So out of that living for Him we have writings, experiences and expressions of Christ ministry compiled in a book called the Bible. Jesus ministry in the earth didn't stop or now is only half of what it was then what it is today. So it is not worth arguing sometimes with folks. They will find out what if what they have believed is true or not sooner than later.

But I am glad Paul told us out of observation what you find in a Spirit filled church. Why too many people don't want that kind I understand, but don't. Instead they want a makeshift creation of their own maybe so they can manage it? It will be something God will have sort out.

Thanks for sharing that comment. Not everyone shares the same idea. I am glad Paul told us what is in a Spirit filled Church so we can recognize when something else is present that shouldn't be.

I didn't say what church I was from because I don't know if they would have appreciated or not, and thought what difference does it make. No one told me to do it I just did it on my own. But what was funny is on that Sunday morning I heard people at my church talking about some guy walking up the street dressed like Jesus. Of course I just chuckled to myself. Eventually, they figured it out. My church was medium to large church so some did not know me by name.

I believe you 100%. I've never been saved from imminent danger, but I have heard the Holy Spirit once, in 57 years of life. Thanks for sharing your awesome inspirational story that God is alive and indeed like the movie said "God's Not Dead"

Thanks Jeff.
That story I gave is just one example of the many thousands I have experienced over nearly 60 years of learning to hear his voice.

If you have already heard the Lord speak, then I would strongly suggest you take regular time out just listening for his voice as I believe he speaks to anyone who will listen, and who is willing to tune their spirit to his.

In my view, the biggest reason that people fail to hear God speak is the dependency they have on 'going to church', which has become a substitute for 'going to God'.
That simple fact makes believers spiritually lazy, just suckling weekly at the tit of their pastors.

In fact, I first heard God speak to me as a child, a good decade before I heard the gospel preached or "became a Christian" and joined a church.

However, it wasn't until I pulled away from that church dependency and invited the Lord to direct my path outside of church, that I began to see how much the Lord desired to be involved with me as his own son!
That decision started an adventure of a lifetime, a roller coaster ride with the Lord, and it's still going at 70 yrs old..

Why prophets?

Also, "Despise not prophesyings." I Thess 5 (reveals our spiritual state, heart indicator/meter)
"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." I Thess 5 (learn how to evaluate / ascertain then keep what is worthy by good warfare (I Tim 1:18)

"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." Amos 3:7 Being God's servant to help the people.

"Yet He sent prophets to them to bring them back to the Lord;..." II Chron 24:19

"...but the one who prophesies builds up the church." I Cor 14:4

"Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge." "And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets." The words and spirits are judged by other prophets. ( I Cor 14:29, 32) and others (I John 4:1).

"But if they be prophets, and if the word of the Lord be with them, let them now make intercession to the Lord of hosts..." Jer 27:18 Intercessors including Huldah, a woman (II Kings 22 and II Chron 34)

Some think everything supernatural is ungodly while others think the supernatural is all Godly. Both in error.
""And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone." Rev 19:20

Supernatural can be good (Holy Spirit or Angels) or evil (Satan or demons). Its strange but in real life I know about as many people who have run into the evil supernatural, even more so than the Godly supernatural. My father in law witnessed an actual exorcism, and he didn't believe in such things and is one of those who thinks the "Perfect" came with the canonization or completion of Scripture. Another good friend, a very conservative Baptist, had a demon harass him for months, hearing foul language and a faint red glow out of thin air in his apartment that wouldn't go away even in the name of the Lord. One friend of mine's encounter was limited to speaking in tongues at the precise moment he got saved, and my encounter happened while I was in worship service and in the middle of the sermon that I was attentively listening to, and I felt like I had been struck by lightening and was unable to speak for hours afterwards it was so powerful, and really all I heard was "Follow Jesus" Edit: My nephew who is now a dentist encountered a demon while in dental school at LSU. This thing knocked out power to his entire apartment and not his neighbors, and said he did not see or hear anything but the hair stood up on the back of his neck as he "felt" this terrible thing pass by him.

Precisely. And that's why believers must learn to operate in the Holy Spirit, otherwise they will have no discernment when Satan's angels of light call on him.

I suspect that says more about the spiritual circles you inhabit than what's really happening out there.
Unfortunately, the biggest roadblock to God's involvement with his own children is the deep hard unbelief taught in church.
My father in law witnessed an actual exorcism, and he didn't believe in such things and is one of those who thinks the "Perfect" came with the canonization or completion of Scripture.
Your f-i-l sounds like the majority of the church, a tightly closed book when it comes to the Holy Spirit moving today. He might once have witnessed an "actual exorcism", when according to Jesus, we should be witnessing deliverance from demons as part of normal Christian living.
All of these things illustrate just how naive and unspiritual the average Christian is.
In fact I would go much further than that and say that believers who have previously dabbled in the new age movement or the occult, have a far greater understanding of the Godly spirit realm that most Christians have.

Encouraging thread.

What are all the responsibilities of a Prophet?
I'm not sure what you are looking for with that question.
However, the responsibilities of a prophet are similar to any of the ministries of the Holy Spirit.

You should maybe ask the same question of the millions of pastors, priests, teachers etc, who for 2000 years have led the church completely astray with no assistance whatsoever from prophetic voices.

Encouraging thread.

What are all the responsibilities of a Prophet?
I was thinking the other day. I think one of the most important jobs they do is make the way ready for the Lord visitation. Thinking of Moses being a prophet, the prophets of the old testament, Jesus or John the Apostle, but also a prophet, John the baptist and even the two witness prophesied about in the end.
Just like John the baptist whom Jesus referred to as elijah. And a similar thought of a prophet type we will look for in the end that pronounces God's judgement in the earth giving the testimony of God that Jesus can set all the earthbound free! I believe their testimony will speak to the way of the Lord.

I believe it will be a display of God's power and glory presented to the world that even when they are killed God will show His greatness and raise them up and out for all to see. What a display of His mercy so that no man can say they didn't know. God empowers them to carry out the work of making Him and his intentions known to the world and readying the way for our Lord's return. If question they will suffer under the fire of the Lord's judgement.
I think the reason I made the video is to get folks to realize prophets prophesying are not creating a new gospel but confirming God's plan. And God shares his plans and directions with this office to share with others.
I was thinking these last day prophets (the two witnesses) are probable living among us now. If this is the time. Just like John the baptist with Jesus saying he is the elijah to come if you can accept that, so will these two believers/prophets living among us be like. We may not see them at the moment I have thought. Considering Moses sitting in the wilderness until it was time, John the baptist too. What a incredible time to live.
