• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

This is going to sound really weird, but do you think God will be mad at me if I don't go to church due to my period?? It's not bad yet, but I'm really afraid it will be bad. Long story short. I'm 26 years old and have been on BC since I was 12 years old, due to fear of blood, and it stopped working. So now I have an appointment scheduled with my gynecologist. But I've been freaking out due to having a period. I mean, I had a major panic attack and cried and cried over it. I freak out when I have one because I went my entire life without having a period. I'm hoping to get new BC or some type of surgery that stops periods forever. I don't even care if it stops me from having kids, I can't have a period. It's terrifying and I freak out. Blah blah blah, anyways, will God get mad at me for missing church? I'm really scared he'll get mad at me, but I'm also afraid I'll have a mess. :(

JS: NO! The L-rd knows our struggles and weaknesses. Can you zoom the service? Or another churches service from home? I zoom mine because I at risk for Covid and still not fully vaccinated. So this is another option.

Yes, I watched it online. Our church livestreams every service. I just have this fear that God is going to be mad at me if I don't go to church.

JS:
Shalom Animelover93, The Church places services first on TV and later on-line because there will always be people at times when people cannot come to Mass. Yes we are not to purposely ignore Mass but if your sick, or home bound you can stay home.

Indeed, you fear you might be unintentionally sinning by doing so from the sounds of it. Though this could be true only your doctor or gynecologist can tell you so. So making an appointment was the first step. Still, if it turns out you overreacted there is confession, so don’t worry, be happy. G-d does not bring down fire and brim stone because we are human.

And your condition can be debilitating. My daughter suffers so at least till she went to her doctor. He prescribed over the counter meds and told her to watch for estrogen in foods that might be worsening her situation. She stopped eating beans or drinking milk a week before and till a week after her period and takes anti-inflammatory pain relief as well.

With these changes she can go to church but on her first day its still difficult, but she manages. So menstrual issues can be real especially given most of the fertilizers they use to grow our foods is estrogen based. Thus beans which absorb it from the ground and cows which make their own (milk is calf food after all) can make your situation worse.

So relax, see your doctor and also see if you can receive the Eucharist (if your Catholic) while at home. Most churches offer this but you need to let them know. Also by letting them know your situation they can also add you to their prayer list. I’ll pray for you as well.

Maybe your GP might be able to prescribe something else for you, if you suffer from a heavy flow.

Or you could try, speaking to your uterus, as it hears and obeys the word of God. Tell it to be still in the name of Jesus, as you would like to attend church fellowship. :)

I have a friend, who speaks to her womb each time she wants to try for a baby with hubby and commands it to open up and receive. Then after she has had her baby, she'll command it to close up and it obeys, to avoid things like unwanted pregnancies. I think it is up to an individual really, to believe and tap into God's wonder working power.

Certainly not. Although this was in the old testament, God talks about not having anyone in the temple who is ill or has any sort of unclean bodily discharge, including menstruation.
Also, generally speaking, every woman, except in the cases of certain medical conditions, has one, so when it is said to be "unclean", I don't think it means there is anything "wrong" with it, but more so in the sense you wouldn't want to accidentally touch someone's menstruation.
Also, there are birth controls out there that can prevent menstruation. There are actually quite a few of them, and that's definitely something you should bring up to your doctor, as well as research for yourself. Some of them can be questionably safe and cause different side effects. I was on the Depo-Provera shot and didn't have periods, but I did have dangerously elevated blood pressure and faint a few times from it. Not good. I think some combination pills allow you to miss your period.
Blood is certainly a factor of life, though, and it might be worth working through your fear of it through CBT with a professional.
