As a black man I’m pretty sure it’s not directly tied to the media. My grandfather hated the police he was never arrested for any crime, my father hated the police he was also never arrested and personally I do not like police officers. Its more likely the issue is generations of black people that have had very negative experiences when they interact with police. The elders in my family taught me to never trust nor speak to police way before media coverage.
One of the reasons for the narrative maybe pandering to black liberals. I think the reality is we see that already. Before camera phones, if you went to a black barbershop what do you think was said during these instances? As a child when I went to the barbershop often I heard of injustices within the community. Black people are not believing a narrative that the media is giving us, this a narrative we have spoken about for years.
the fact that a big conversation in our community isn’t known or is considered new, is evidence of the disconnect racially in America.
Who cares if the person was a the worst type of criminal alive, anytime an unarmed individual is killed by the police it’s wrong. Nobody is saying that these people were saints we are just saying that they did not deserve to die.
