No. There are plenty of Christians, believers in Christ, who are not Bible scholars or even regular church attendees.

He did say it was his favourite book. He couldn't quote anything from his favourite book?

If it sounds like a charlatan, walks like a charlatan and looks like a charlatan...

He did more for the churches than any other president in my life.

1. It would be interesting to see Albion's list.

2. There is a constitutional separation of church and state. How appropriate is it for a serving President to be doing 'more for the churches than any other president'?

It is always appropriate for government to work towards restoring the full legal rights of a group of citizens who have been denied those rights.

Of course that is almost too obviously true.

Are you claiming that the churches have been denied some previously legal rights? If so a list would be helpful. (Two lists now?)

The Constitution prohibits a religious test for office, so I certainly don't think an Atheist should be barred from the presidency.

I probably would vote for an atheist so long as they aren't anti-theist, or at the very least willing to respect religious freedom. I might be skeptical, but I'd give them a chance to prove me wrong.

I could vote for someone who is an atheist as long as he wasn't militantly anti-religion or disrespected Christian or other beliefs. The part that's hard is that most atheists or the most vocal ones tend to side more left or progressive on issues for my taste, and are less than positive attitude with religious or spiritual beliefs, of course unless it is the more "progressive" form of said beliefs.

In theory yes, but in practicality would be very hard and very rare. I would want somebody like Alain De Botton of "the School of Life", someone who has appreciation for the positive contributions of Christianity to western culture and thought.

However I'm afraid when it comes to politics and the various ambitions that come with that you would get someone who is much less benign. Probably not on the order or Pol Pot, Mao or Stalin, but maybe an atheist version of Hilary Clinton, or maybe a Richard Dawkins who also wants to use his political power to deplatform, silence and eventually reeducate Christians into his ideal of a godless utopia.

Many of the vocal atheists I heard about sound like they are also misotheists.

Point one out to me. I need to tell her she's an idiot. One cannot hate that which one does not believe in.

And I'm pretty sure that Christianity guiding society, warts and all, is better than the alternative. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Then how come you guys whinge so much about the mess society is in?

V: Lucky for us that we are guiding society.
B: But it's a mess. You complain about it the most.
V: Ah, but that's not our fault.

By definition, misotheism and atheism are mutually exclusive beliefs. You can't hate something which doesn't exist.

You may be confusing misotheism with anti-theism - a belief that theism is potentially harmful.

I suspect we already have. Many times. I am a skeptic who believes that many who stand up and wave the Bible are more interested in capturing a voter segment than embracing a faith.

As for me, I'm more about candidates who believe in American values and following the Constitution than adhereing to a particular faith.

An atheist can also be a misotheist in the sense that he/she hates the idea of God and if the atheist finds out God literally exists, then he remains hating or disliking that God.

So, what would the alternative look like? Sweden? Finland? Germany? Japan? South Korea? The cesspool of anarchy and debauchery that is the Netherlands?

In my experience, the atheists I know generally don't hate god (you can't hate something that doesn't exist). What they generally hate is the behavior of some of the people who claim to be Christians/theists/religionists.
