Royal Musings: Funeral for Philip's mother
December 10, 1969

The funeral of Prince Philip's mother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark, took place today at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. The service was conducted by the Dean of Windsor, assisted by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Gregory Theocharous, the chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain. Following the service, the princess was buried at Windsor, "not far from the spot where she was born 84 years ago."

That has not , as yet, become known in the UK .

His funeral next Saturday will be Anglican
I've enjoyed Fr Andrew's perspective on all things UK/Europe and Orthodoxy. Here is his blurb on Prince Philip.

Technically, therefore the late Prince Philip was an apostate. However, since he never practised Greek Orthodoxy, does this mean anything? True, in 1992 he did talk about religion to some Orthodox bishops, including the late Parisian Metropolitan Antony Bloom and he is alleged by some to have received communion from him. However, the religious views expressed by the late Prince both before and since then appear to have nothing Orthodox about them at all. They express rather the apostate views of those who believe in some vague Deity and the universality of religion. Certainly he was not a practising Orthodox Christian, but a syncretist who thought that all that religion could tell us is that there is some ‘Divine force’ in the Universe.

While I think Fr Andrew is probably closer to the truth on this one, I would caution against using him as the ultimate authority of "all things UK and Orthodoxy". He's a great resource for British/Saxon pre-schism saints, and if thats what you are reading him for then by all means continue. But with regards modern UK Orthodoxy (and in fact present-day English/British matters in general) he often has a particular axe to grind. I wouldn't rely on him if I wanted to know what real-life Orthodoxy in the UK is all about- he's not representative of reality.

As far as I can tell - there were no Orthodox Clergy present . The funeral was conducted by the Anglican Dean and the Archbishop of Canterbury gave the final Blessing. The Duke's coffin now rests in the Royal vault.

May he rest in peace

Prince Philip’s Mother Alice and Her Life of Philanthropy in Greece

Prince Philip's Mother Alice and Her Life of Philanthropy in Greece
The article confused the words "philanthropy" and "charity". It looks like she was doing charity, not philanthropy. The critical difference is whose terms the help is given on.
I've come to look at philanthropy with extreme suspicion, as it is connected to the lust for power over others, doing good for them as long as they do what YOU want.
