My apologies. What people were you referring to that you know what they were thinking?

Well, myself, for starters. And several people I've spoken to on the subject... as well as some of the people on this thread who have expressed support for Congresswoman Waters...

And while I cannot say with certainty that Chairman Jim Clyburn was thinking in precisely those words, the fact that he was attempting to cut Jordan off (because Jordan had exceeded his allotted time), clearly shows that wishing Jordan to be silent was prominent in his mind at that moment -- Waters simple chose a less diplomatic way to phrase it.

To be fair...Jim Jorden’s schtick is to be the angry guy, who asks the tough questions!, then bloviates through attempts of the witness to answer. Makes great red meat for the base.

Well, if he wants to impress his easily impressed base by going after Fauci (who by all accounts, can hold his own against the likes of Jordan), that's one thing... by he should've known better than to try to belittle Waters in the same tirade.

He should have been this angry when his wrestlers were being molested. He was pretty quiet then.

Molestation of athletes in your care: silence
Having to wear a mask while community spread numbers come down to managable levels so we can lessen a Pandemic much more quickly : major rage

I think that it's just Jim Jordan being Jim Jordan. He isn't treating Dr. Fauci any worse than he treated Col. Vindman and the others who testified at Trump's first impeachment hearing. He always tends to lead with anger.

I can understand why the need for self-control in wearing masks and practicing social distance is difficult for Rep. Jordan. That doesn't mean it's not good for him, nor does it mean it's not good for America.

Why didn’t Fauci just answer the question?

This question still stands. Why didn’t the good doctor answer the question. It was asked very clearly and multiple times.

Third time - why didn't the good doctor just answer the question?

All the Congressman was asking is when the numbers will be low enough - what is the goal?

Dr. Fauci just kept repeating the numbers are too high - he never said what the goal is. What are the numbers they are looking for.

Six times and he never answered - why?

Maybe if Mr Jordan would settle down a bit and stop using hysterics for show for his supporters Dr Fauci would have been more willing to give him a more direct answer. Idk. I know I don’t like to answer people when they’re being irate.

Watch the video - he only became 'irate' after the third or fourth time he asked the question.

Extra points for the tongue in cheek insult attempt with his name though! Bravo!

I guess calling people names is no longer looked down on......

Here is an exchange between Fauci and Jim Jordon.

I think it is very disappointing that several members of the Republican Party are going at Fauci. Right wing media and some Republican members seem to have an ongoing campaign to discredit Fauci and his messaging on the pandemic.

In this particular instance Jordon was yelling at Fauci. Maybe this was for political theatre, to instil emotions in his base (IDK).
It appeared that he was angry at Fauci for the impact of Covid-19 and the social distancing and lockdowns etc. Which is weird because the disease and the Government in response to the disease is causing these lockdowns, not Fauci.

Ultimately it is the Governors or the Federal government who make the decisions. The scientists only make recommendations. Fauci is an expert in infectious diseases, he isn't an economist, he isn't a psychologist and he isn't government, so his advice is with regards to the disease and not with regards to the economy.

So it really is inappropriate to question Fauci on when the restrictions are going to be removed. Only the governors or the Federal government can make that decision.
Better questions would be "When would Fauci recommend people no longer wear masks, when would Fauci recommend restrictions on mass gatherings be lifted?"

But I would expect that it is more complicated than specifying a date. Trump said it would be lifted by Easter 2020 which was obviously way off the mark. I think it would be more complicated than saying once the public is x% vaccinated as their might be strains that the vaccine doesn't work against.

But I do agree that the government should be formulating under what criteria should restrictions be lifted and Fauci should be one of many experts giving advice on that.

In NZ we have a 4 stage alert system which specified various levels of restrictions. Our government has been pretty clear on what moves us up and down the alert system. But from the outside looking in, USA seems to be a complete mess right now, disease is running rampant, thousands of people dying, I really think it is too early for USA to be arguing about when restrictions are to be lifted. USA folk should be working out how they can flatten their curve, working out why they haven't yet been able to do enough to get the infection rate down, NZ was at this stage in March/April 2020, we dealt with it and now we have very little restrictions internally. No masks, no gatherings limits.

Anyway, I see very little value in yelling at Fauci over restrictions. If only these Republican members who are attacking Fauci could instead get serious about the pandemic, lead by example to get the public to take measures to get the infection rates down, ask constructive and appropriate questions of the expert scientists, challenge the government on the measures taken and why these aren't leading to significant drops in the infection rates.
Good analysis.

As a medical doctor, Fauci's role is to advise our government about the medical realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Over the last year, American’s First Amendment rights have been completely attacked. Your right to go to church, your right to assemble, your right to petition your government, freedom of the press, freedom of speech have all been assaulted.” is not a question, and even if it were phrased as one, it is not one that Fauci is in any position to answer.

And bellowing “When is low enough? Give me a number!” puts on a nice show for his followers, but Jordan has forgotten that as a legislator, he is a member of the governing body who gets to make that final decision, with or without Fauci's blessing... assuming he wants to.

The truth of it is, our government can re-open everything and get "back to normal" any time they want to... but folks like Jordan would rather have Fauci's ok so they can blame him if things go wrong.

Ever seen a politician without someone to point a finger at? It's sad....

Fauci is a pop culture hero because he was viewed as disagreeing with Trump in public. That's it. "We hate Trump, Fauci disagreed with Trump, so Fauci is right. He's the expert". But Fauci was the one very early on saying that covid wasn't a problem. As late as March of 2020 he was telling people it was safe to go on a cruise. And of course he said random internet sexual hookups were just fine. And that we were "years away from a vaccine".

If Fauci is so bad then why didn’t Trump fire Fauci and put someone who knows what they are doing? Fauci was part of Trump administration COVID task force until Jan 20. Day after day Fauci stood next to Trump and recommended. Jim Jorden was talking about last year people couldn’t go to church, couldn’t gather in their home. Well, most people may not remember, Trump was POTUS, Fauci was just a guy ina task force, only power he had in Trump administration was to advise and recommend. Fauci can’t shut down ONE single Bar in the country, let alone shut down the country all together.

But until we get to that point just sit back and let it grow.
Some countries and territories let it happen or took a wait and see attitude, some took early steps and shut everything down immediately and avoided the pandemic let alone the curve.

Trump was POTSU in 2020 , Not Fauci.

Who was Fauci's advisor? What part did the lab in Wuhan he was funding play?
That is a lie. Dr. Fauci was not funding the Wuhan lab.

...instead, they continue to undermine our country by attacking the scientific leaders who are trying to save American lives. Would they attack a General who is coordinating the defense of the homeland against a foreign enemey? Would they have resisted black out orders during WW2 in the name of freedom?

Trump, Jordan and their ilk are traitors and IMO, are accountable for a large portion of the 500k American deaths.

This is former GOP speaker of the House has to say about Jim Jorden. I know these days if you are not worshiping Trump you are not republican. Boehner defiantly not a republican today. But when sky was blue, earth was round Boehner was conservative of Conservative and he was the leader of Republican party.

Former GOP House Speaker John Boehner calls fellow Republican Jim Jordan a 'political terrorist'

"Jim Jordan especially, my colleague from Ohio," he replied. "I just never saw a guy who spent more time tearing things apart ― never building anything, never putting anything together."
