And companies shouldn't if they wish to avoid a political backlash. But if they choose to do so, political retaliation should be part of their cost/benefit analysis and risk calculations.

Nobody should if they want to avoid a political backlash. The government elites will use their power to destroy your livelihood if you ever speak or act against them.

I thought that is what "cancel culture" was all about?

I thought the GOP was against it?

And I thought this country had a First Amendment which explicitly forbade the government from engaging in it?

I guess they are really ticked off about that All star game. That is really petty and childish. It will never pass.
...and MLB moving the game at this time, costing the people of Atlanta $100,000,000 or more in revenue that could have helped the city's residents, upsetting the plans and also the monies already laid out by people expecting to attend the game...and all of this on the basis of a false claim that the legislation in question amounted to "voter suppression?" THAT wasn't petty (or worse) in your opinion??

Did it merit (illegal) government retaliation?

Maybe the Georgia legislators should have thought this through a bit more before passing such an unpopular law? I don’t see how any of this is the MLB’s fault.

Rubbish! Prove it, quote me exactly what you claim is "repression against people of color?"
Why can't you face facts.
Never mind here is is. Show me what is racist.
Gov. Brian Kemp signed the bill on March 31. Certain provisions will go into effect on July 1:

    • Special ballots will be created for nonpartisan elections
    • Ballots must be printed in black and white ink on security paper
    • A cutoff date of 11 days before a primary, general election or runoff election for mail-in ballot applications
    • A deadline for the issuance of absentee ballots at least 25 days before a federal primary, general election or special election or 22 days before a municipal general election or primary
    • A Georgia state driver's license number, ID card number, date of birth and the last four digits of a social security number or another approved form of identification must be printed on the outside of an absentee ballot
    • Conditions for rejecting absentee ballots if certain requirements are not met.
What about early votin

Why can't you face facts? Do you think that so many people are criticizing the new laws as you've summarized them above?

Where are the rest of the conditions such as forbidding people to give water to people standing in line, some of them for hours?

The New York Times analyzed the state’s new 98-page voting law and identified 16 key provisions that will limit ballot access, potentially confuse voters and give more power to Republican lawmakers.

"
Go page by page through Georgia’s new voting law, and one takeaway stands above all others: The Republican legislature and governor have made a breathtaking assertion of partisan power in elections, making absentee voting harder and creating restrictions and complications in the wake of narrow losses to Democrats."

These are the facts that you need to face.

When did that happen?
See two links my post [#26] above. Cristian businesses who have been sued because they refuse to produce something that openly supports LBTGQ etc.

Nonsense! The bill only limits the wrong people from voting. You know, poor people, recent immigrants that are citizens but cannot take time off to vote, etc. The fact that black people tend to be poorer and as a result are more likely to vote Democratic is just a coincidence.

Do I really need a smiley for this post?

Just as I thought the usual litany of rubbish. Where is anything in the new Georgia legislation which is racially biased? You can't provide it because it ain't there
"16 key provisions that will limit ballot access, potentially confuse voters and give more power to Republican lawmakers."
What part of the legislation "limits ballot access?" It ain't there.
"potentially confuse voters" Give me a break. If parts are confusing clarify those parts don't throw out the entire legislation.
These are the facts you cannot face.

I'm sure that you wouldn't. So what?
I'm sorry that was too complicated for you. Someone commented they couldn't understand how a wedding cake could support LGBTQ. I gave an example. Is that too complicated for you? While I'm at it a Christian photographer has the constitutional right to refuse to take photos which display LGBTQ images or situations.

You're forgetting how much the people of Denver will benefit from the game being moved there. They will gain $100,000,000 or more in revenue [your estimate] that will help the city's residents.

Then you tack on this gratuitous comment -- and all of this on the basis of a false claim that the legislation in question amounted to "voter suppression" -- that has no basis in fact. Should I believe you or the (reputable) New York Times? What are your credentials?

I tend to agree with Subduction Zone on this. I don't see much, if any, direct racist intent. If the new law effects black people disproportionally it only reflects previous racism which has resulted in black people being frequently found in the targeted population. The object is not to disenfranchise blacks, specifically, but people who tend to vote left.

No those who are "off the wall" are the ones who think they can use the courts to bully people into doing something that violates their religious beliefs.
