I am a Sabbath keeper of course but i am looking for valid arguments as to why Sunday church goers go to church on Sunday instead of Saturday? Feel free to post links to videos and or articles supporting your argument, as well as quoting scripture!

When looking at the Old Law one can categorize the Old Testament Mosaic Law (the 613 Laws of Moses) into a threefold division:
  1. Moral Laws (Any Law pertaining to doing good as a part of nature).
  2. Ceremonial Laws (Laws pertaining to ceremonies or rituals).
  3. Civil Laws (Laws dealing with civil matters; Which includes Laws on carrying out justice).
Even before the written Law of Moses: We can see that there were Moral Laws (like: “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” Do not covet,” “Do not commit adultery,” etc.), and Ceremonial Laws (like: animal sacrifices).

God's moral laws came into existence for man and would forever exist for him after the Fall of Adam and Eve (after they received the knowledge of good and evil). A Moral Law is any law telling you to do good without a specific law telling you that such a thing is so (See Romans 2:14). These moral laws existed before the Law of Moses.

In the New Covenant (or New Testament) these Moral Laws (like: “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” Do not covet,” “Do not commit adultery,” etc.) are repeated from the 613 laws within the Law of Moses and they still are in effect (i.e. They have been carried over into the New Testament). However, the Old Testament Law of Moses as a whole or package deal is no more (contractually speaking). Ceremonial Laws or commands: Things like the commands on circumcision, animal sacrifices, the Saturday Sabbath, dietary etc. are no longer binding under the New Covenant. This is because the written Law given to Israel is no longer in effect (as a whole). How so?

Here are a list of verses showing us the Old Law is no more:

"When God speaks of a "new" covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear." (Hebrews 8:13) (NLT).

”Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.” (Romans 7:4).

"But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter." (Romans 7:6).

"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;" (Colossians 2:14).

20 "Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 Which all are to perish with the using; ) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh."
(Colossians 2:20-23).

“By abolishing in His [own crucified] flesh the enmity [caused by] the Law with its decrees and ordinances [which He annulled]; that He from the two might create in Himself one new man [one new quality of humanity out of the two], so making peace.” (Ephesians 2:15) (AMPC).

"The old [former] rule [commandment; regulation] is now set aside [nullified; abolished], because it was weak and useless [ineffective]." (Hebrews 7:18) (EXB).

9 “Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.” (Hebrews 9:9-10).

16 “For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.” (Hebrews 9:16-17).

”And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament…” (Hebrews 9:15).

27 “And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matthew 26:27-28).

50 “Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; “ (Matthew 27:20-51).

8 “Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.” (Hebrews 10:8-9).

“And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.” (Acts of the Apostles 15:1).

“But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” (Acts of the Apostles 15:5).

“Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment” (Acts of the Apostles 15:24).

28 "For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well." (Acts of the Apostles 15:28-29).

7 "But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious." (2 Corinthians 3:7-11).

“But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.” (2 Corinthians 3:14).​

The Old Covenant says this about circumcision:

"And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant." (Genesis 17:14).​

Yet, the New Covenant says this about circumcision:

"Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing." (Galatians 5:2).​

The Old Covenant says this about the Sabbath:

32 "And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses." (Numbers 15:32-36).​

Yet, the New Covenant says this about the Sabbath:

"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:" (Colossians 2:16).​

So it appears things have changed.

This makes sense because Hebrews 7:12 says the Law has changed.

"For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law." (Hebrews 7:12).

“For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17).​

In conclusion:

You sort of have to look at the Old Covenant (Old Testament) as one contract, and the New Covenant (New Testament) as another contract. It's kind of like a contract when you buy a house. If you did not like certain things in the contract, you could ask them to make some changes in the contract. If they agreed to the changes, you would then go by the new contract, and the old contract for the house would be discarded. There may be some similar things between the old contract, and the new contract, but you stick with the new contract in your dealing with buying the house. Meaning: This is why we seek to follow the New Covenant (New Testament) primarily even though there are certain laws that have carried over from the Old Covenant (Old Testament). We are clearly not under the 613 Laws of Moses as a whole or package deal. We follow the commands that come from Jesus and His followers.

I was in a Sabbath keeping church for many years. Between the preparation, travel, sermon, fellowship, and other activities many were exhausted by days end, especially families with small children. Best to keep the Sabbath as God intended and get some rest, then attend church on Sunday bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Hello, Glory. There was an extensive discussion here of this very issue not long ago. You may be able to find it with a little searching and have all that gathered together for you. Which of the CF forums it was on, I don't remember, but it wasn't the SDA home forum.

First, there are no direct Sabbath commands given to us believers in the pages of the New Testament. In other words, there is no command by Jesus or the apostle Paul saying something like this: “Thou shalt keep the Sabbath.” Also, the breaking of the Sabbath is not listed among the list of many various sins by the apostles Paul, and the apostle John (See: Galatians 5:19-21, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Revelation 21:8, etc.). For example: When Paul says, that murderers will not inherit the kingdom of God, he does not mention anything about Sabbath day breakers.

Second, Colossians 2:14-17, and Romans 14:5 indicate to us that the Sabbath day is no longer.

Three, Acts of the Apostles 15:1, Acts of the Apostles 15:5, and Acts of the Apostles 15:24 says that the Gentile believers do not have to keep the Law of Moses and to circumcise as a part of salvation. The apostles only stressed in keeping such laws as: Abstaining from pollutions of idols, from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood (See: Acts of the Apostles 15:20). If there was ever a time to stress the importance of keeping the Sabbath, this would have been the time to do it (Seeing the Sabbath is more a ceremonial performance based law like circumcision). Paul said in Galatians 5:2 that if you seek to be circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. Meaning, if we go back to the Old Law, the Lord will not be of any benefit to us. Acts of the Apostles 13:39 says this.

“And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” (Acts of the Apostles 13:39).​

The Saturday Sabbath is clearly a part of the Old Testament Law of Moses, and it is not a command that is clearly given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ and or by His apostles.


Side Note:

People keeping the Sabbath does not equate with how it is a command. The New Covenant began with Christ's death upon the cross, and it took time for His followers to figure out that we are not under the Law of Moses. We are under the commands that come from Jesus and His followers. For the Law came by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (See: John 1:17).

Because it's the day Christians have always gathered together for worship. It is what we find consistently throughout history, from the time of the Apostles to the present time.

The notion that Christians are obligated to gather for church on the Sabbath has no basis in Scripture, and is directly contradicted on multiple occasions by Scripture. It was never accepted by any of the ancient fathers, never part of Christian practice--from the beginning or until now.

No day of the week for worship is commanded by God for His Church; so the Church is free to worship on any and every day. The first day of the week was chosen for very obvious reasons, which is why Christians have consistently gathered together throughout the week, but especially on the first day of the week. Which came to be called the Kyriake [hemera], the Lord's Day.

So as to back up my assertions as not merely assertions:

1 Corinthians 16:2 doesn't make any sense unless the Faithful were going to be gathered together on that day in order for a collection to be taken.

Acts 20:7 shows us that teaching for the community was happening on the first day of the week.

In Romans ch. 14 the Apostle deals with the liberty and freedom of conscience over food and days of observance; and he touches upon these things again in Colossians ch. 2, more forcefully stating that the sabbaths and other special days that were commanded to the Jews under the Old Covenant served as shadows pointing toward the substance of Christ Himself.

The anonymous author of the Epistle to the Hebrews tells us that our sabbath is today, not any day of the week, but today--the day in which we live in Christ--Hebrews 4:6-11.

According to the writer of the Epistle of Barnabas,

"Further, He says to them, 'Your new moons and your Sabbath I cannot endure.' You perceive how He speaks: Your present Sabbaths are not acceptable to Me, but that is which I have made, [namely this,] when, giving rest to all things, I shall make a beginning of the eighth day, that is, a beginning of another world. Wherefore, also, we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead. And when He had manifested Himself, He ascended into the heavens." - Barnabas 15:8-9

St. Ignatius of Antioch in his Epistle to the Magnesians,

"If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but live in the observance of the Lord's Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death--whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master--how shall we be able to live apart from Him, whose disciples the prophets themselves in the Spirit did wait for Him as their Teacher? And therefore He whom they rightly waited for, having come, raised them from the dead.

Let us not, therefore, be insensible to His kindness. For were He to reward us according to our works, we should cease to be. Therefore, having become His disciples, let us learn to live according to the principles of Christianity. For whoever is called by any other name besides this, is not of God. Lay aside, therefore, the evil, the old, sour leaven, and be changed into the new leaven, which is Jesus Christ. Be saited in Him, let any one among you should be corrupted, since by your savour you shall be convicted. It is absurd to profess Christ Jesus, and to Judaize. For Christianity did not embrace Judaism, but Judaism Christianity, that so every tongue which believes might be gathered together to God.
" - Magnesians 9:1-2 - 10:1-3

St. Justin Martyr in his First Apology writes,

"And we afterwards continually remind each other of these things. And the wealthy among us help the needy; and we always keep together; and for all things wherewith we are supplied, we bless the Maker of all through His Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Ghost. And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succours the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need. But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration." - First Apology of St. Justin Martyr, ch. 67

And so on.

When Christians coined the term to refer to the first day of the week. That's just what they called it. It is a bit like asking since when was Monday just Monday.

Sabbath keeping, which is Saturday, is just a day of rest. Sunday is the day of gathering for congregations. EVERYDAY is the Lords Day.

Keep watch for no one knows their last day. Be blessed.

I go on Sunday because that’s when everyone else in my neck of the woods is there. ;)

Every now and then you’ll find us there on Saturday doing something, but most show up on Sunday to gather and fellowship. :)

Revelation 1:10 mentions the “Lord's day.”

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, ...” (Revelation 1:10).​

Some believe this day to be Sunday, and others believe this day to be Saturday (i.e. the Saturday Sabbath, or the seventh day [last day] of the week). Let's examine Scripture to find out what the Lord's day is.

The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.” (John 20:1).

6 “Then cometh Simon Peter... and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.” (John 20:6-7).

“...yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
(John 20:9).

10 “Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping:” (John 20:10-11).

“Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener,...” (John 20:15).

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.​

Here we see on “the first day” of the week (Sunday) that Jesus was already risen, and He shows Himself to Mary and tells her, “I ascend (rise) unto my Father.” Mary later tells the disciples that she has seen “the Lord.”

This is the Lord's day in that He had ascended or risen to the Father.

On the Road to Emmaus:

Jesus (with his identity hidden) talked with two men on the road to Emmaus about His death and resurrection:

The two men said:

“Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.” (Luke 24:22-23).​

Jesus said unto them:

“O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? (Luke 24:25-26).​

Later, after Jesus revealed his full identity to them (in who He was) at dinner and departed:

The two men said:

32 “And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.” (Luke 24:32-35).​

The Lord is risen indeed!
Jesus ascended or had risen to His Father!
This was on the first day the disciples discovered the empty tomb!
This is the Lord's day. The culmination or climactic high point of God's story in the salvation of mankind. He is risen! The Lord is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! The first day of the week! The Lord's day! Sunday!

For Christians would be known for gathering on Sunday or the first day of the week (Which is based on Scripture).

The disciples gathered on the first day of the week:

“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.” (Acts of the Apostles 20:7).

“Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.” (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

In fact, Psalms 118:22-26 is a messianic prophecy of the new day God would make for believers to worship Him in honor of His resurrection.

22 “The stone which the builders refused
is become the head stone of the corner.
23 This is the Lord's doing;
it is marvellous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord:
O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord:
we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.”
(Psalms 118:22-26).

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.​

Here we see on “the first day” of the week (Sunday) that Jesus was already risen, and He shows Himself to Mary and tells her, “I ascend (rise) unto my Father.” Mary later tells the disciples that she has seen “the Lord.”

This is the Lord's day in that He had ascended or risen to the Father.

On the Road to Emmaus:

Jesus (with his identity hidden) talked with two men on the road to Emmaus about His death and resurrection:

The two men said:

“Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.” (Luke 24:22-23).​

Jesus said unto them:

“O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? (Luke 24:25-26).​

Later, after Jesus revealed his full identity to them (in who He was) at dinner and departed:

The two men said:

32 “And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.” (Luke 24:32-35).​

The Lord is risen indeed!
Jesus ascended or had risen to His Father!
This was on the first day the disciples discovered the empty tomb!
This is the Lord's day. The culmination or climactic high point of God's story in the salvation of mankind. He is risen! The Lord is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! The first day of the week! The Lord's day! Sunday!

For Christians would be known for gathering on Sunday or the first day of the week (Which is based on Scripture).

That is really stretching what John said.

There really is no reason to doubt why John calls the weekly Sabbath the Lords day.

Sunday being referenced as it came along later after John wrote Revelation.

It actually gives believers a lot of insight into how believers viewed the Sabbath in the Faith.

Who is in possession of the supper in this above verse?
The Lord! For it is called the Lord's supper!

“The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?”
(1 Corinthians 10:16).

“Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.” (1 Corinthians 10:21).

The Lord's supper is called the Lord's. The cup in the Lord's supper is called the Lord's. The table in the Lord's supper is called the Lord's.

We see Christians gathered on the first day of the week to celebrate the Lord's supper.

Acts of the Apostles 20:7 says,
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.”

So if the supper is called the Lord's supper, and the cup is called the Lord's cup, and the table is called the Lord's table, then logic dictates that the day is the Lord's (if we are to follow the pattern). Meaning: It's the “Lord's day!" Christians gathered on the first day of the week for the Lord's supper so this is the Lord's day just as the supper is the Lord's supper, etc.

Logic dictates that if the supper, cup, table, are called the Lord's, then that very day would also be called the “Lord's day” if we follow the pattern. Christians gathered on Sunday or the first day of the week when it came to the LORD's supper (See: Acts of the Apostles 20:7).

Conclusion:

The Lord's day is Sunday or the first day of the week because that is when they had the Lord's supper.

This is the day the Lord hath made. I see every day being the same.

And you're right, they are. That's why the Church chose the first day of the week--not because of the inherent betterness of this day, but out of voluntary choice. A voluntary choice intended to give honor to Christ, who rose, and thus called this day Kyriake.

Which is why St. John on Patmos writes that it was the Kyriake when he was in prayer when he received his visions. It's what the day was called, from almost the beginning.

"Came together" is passive rather than active voice meaning it was not the disciples decision to bring themselves together upon the first day of the week. The passive shows they were brought together by a directive outside of themselves, namely a directive that originated from God.

first day of week 'mia ton sabbaton' where sabbaton is NOT translated Sabbath. The Jews had no names for days of the week but based weekdays from the Sabbath day. So first day of week means first day from Sabbath or what we call Sunday. Second day of week means second day from Sabbath or what we call Monday, and so on...."R.C.H. Lenski, since “[t]he Jews had no names for the weekdays,” they “designated them with reference to their Sabbath” (1943, p. 1148). Thus, mia ton sabbaton means “the first (day) with reference to the Sabbath,” i.e., the first (day) following the Sabbath (Lenski, p. 1148), or, as we would say in 21st century English, “the first day of the week.”

"Jesus once used the term “Sabbath” in this sense while teaching about the sinfulness of self-righteousness (Luke 18:9). He told a parable of the sanctimonious Pharisee who prayed: “God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess” (18:11-12, emp. added). The phrase “twice a week” comes from the Greek dis tou sabbatou. Obviously Jesus was not saying that the Pharisee boasted of fasting twice on the Sabbath day, but twice (dis) a week (tou sabbatou)."

Because scholars are aware of the Jewish method of counting the days of the week by using the Sabbath as a reference point."

It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed."

--the Sabbath was just given to fleshly Israel to keep, no one else.

--it was to be 'perpetual' throughout their generations. 'Perpetual' here refers to Sabbath keeping would last as long as fleshly Israel and its generations last. When Israel rebelled against God, they broke that OT covenant. God cast off Israel from being His chosen people (Romans 11) therefore bringing an end to that OT covenant thereby bringing an end to Sabbath keeping. The passover feast was to be 'for ever' Exodus 12:14 but are those who keep the Sabbath day also keeping the passover feast? Exodus 21:5-6 'for ever' can refer to just a definite period of time.
