I don't see how taking over multiple unstable poverty stricken countries will benefit us.

Why not go full nuclear? Rework the MacArthur Korean bombing plan for the triangle and create a nuclear glass fire wall against over land drug smuggling.

Ok, so, we are going to invade 10ish countries, depose their governments then presumably rule them, demand they learn a new language and also conscript them into our armed forces and march them off to more wars of conquest. This sounds feasible somehow?
