A Florida politician at the center of an investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz has provided federal law enforcement with information about the congressman’s activities as he seeks a plea deal to resolve his own legal woes, offering prosecutors potentially important testimony as they build a case against a higher-profile target, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Joel Greenberg, a former tax collector for Seminole County, Fla., has since last year been outlining to prosecutors how he and Gaetz would pay women for sex using cash or gifts in potential violation of federal trafficking laws, this person said on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing criminal probe.

Greenberg’s plea deal has not yet been finalized. A Justice Department spokesman declined to comment Tuesday.

Matt is pretty much toast at this point. The article pointed out that there will be questions of reliability of that witness, but Gaetz is his own worst enemy when it comes to these accusations. He used Venmo to pay the young ladies he is accused of having inappropriate behavior with and forgot to set his payment record to private.

Gaetz’s former girlfriend has played a bit role in the unfolding public drama — she is the woman who sent the lawmaker a nude video of her performing a hula hoop dance that he showed to other members of Congress.

But two of her friends, who declined to be identified publicly because of the sensational nature of the case, say she now suspects she was being set up when the alleged victim and another woman involved in the case called her to discuss the lawmaker in what she fears might have been a recorded conference call. The call took place sometime after Greenberg was indicted for the sex crime in August.

The revelation raises the possibility that federal prosecutors have two top cooperating witnesses: the woman who was an alleged sex-trafficking victim when she was a minor and the Gaetz associate already indicted for that crime, former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg.
