And this is why the left wants to pack the court? Cause they just happen to not have won an election? If someone retires during Bidens tenure then he can get a liberal judge. This whole court packing is nothing but a leftist move in order because they can't actually win in the arena of ideas. They lose, so they want a court that won't allow them to.

They won in the arena of elections...pretty decisively.

Biden himself said that court packing is a boneheaded idea. Now he want to consider being the bonehead. Well, if he does pack the court maybe someday the republicans can win again and we will just pack it ouselves. And the battle continues.

"We"?

McConnell shouldn’t have stolen Obama’s pick and rammed through an additional pick for Trump if he didn’t want this can of worms open. Republicans started gamesmanship with the Supreme Court and now they want it to stop because it looks like they are going to lose. How about they take some personal responsibility for starting this?

The NY Times had a really good series on this. On the lower court level, seat numbers had not been on increased since 1994 although case numbers have skyrocketed.

Yes, the number of judges should be increased in many of the courts, most obviously in immigration courts.

Of course, that says nothing about the Supreme Court. I think Democrats are very wrong on this one.

We have not yet determined that the left wants to pack the court. I don't. I'm big fat minority-ally atheist secular science-y lefty dude.

Throw Gorsuch and Barrett off the court right now and I’ll agree with you. Otherwise ignoring it just gives McConnell or anyone else license to do what he did again.

Sounds prudent -- form a commission to examine the potential pros and cons of an important decision.

It's nice to have a president who puts some thought in before acting.
Yes his thought about the border has proven just how wise he is.

The fact that he has chosen to think at all makes him wiser than his predecessor.

"Zero Tolerance" = zero thinking.

Oh, look, more crying over how awful the shoe does pinch when it’s on the other foot.

There was some saying about feelings during the last administration, can’t seem to recall it now, was the monument to it pulled down?

I've never known the Right to think quite that far ahead...

Republicans started gamesmanship with the Supreme Court and now they want it to stop because it looks like they are going to lose.

They've already lost. But as I said, they never thought that far ahead.

How about they take some personal responsibility for starting this?

You're joking, right? The whole point of embracing authoritarianism is to abdicate personal responsibility.

I was wondering what disinformation would become the preferred 'talking point' of those politicians and media who want to pack the court. This is apparently "it."

Maybe -- but the legislative branch expands in proportion to the population, and the executive branch expands to respond to new problems.

When SCOTUS was expanded to nine members, the US population was approximately 38.5 million. Now it's about 328.2 million. A couple more seats wouldn't be such a terrible idea.

Promises kept!

But honestly, he will keep the promise by ordering this study, and that's it.

In the unlikely event that it recommends packing the court, he will nevertheless not pack the court.

But if it keeps angry people needlessly angry for months, so be it.

Obviously Biden's not going to pack the court... but agreed; angry people need to feed their anger...

When did the independence of the Supreme Court become gamesmanship?

The left was against increasing the court until they lost seats on the court -
~ See RBG - nine seats are working
~ See Biden's comment calling increasing the number of justices bone headed -

It is similar in motives IMHO as trying to eliminate the filibuster now that they are in power, when they used the filibuster more than 200 times when they were the minority .

Two words:

_ _ W _ _ G _ _ B

Plain and simple - there is no other reason for it. The US was never designed to be a one party rule.

When McConnell performed the Power Grab of refusing to allow Obama to make judicial picks including refusing to advise on Garland in 2016. Then breaking the fig leaf reason for doing it by ramming through Barrett before the 2020 election. McConnell started this game and now wants relief because it is going to burn him. You have a problem with this go after the man who started it, otherwise I suggest a nice Gouda to go with your whine.

Ask Merrick Garland.

The left was against increasing the court until they lost seats on the court -
~ See RBG - nine seats are working

RBG is dead, and don't pretend to care for her opinion.
Biden's not going to increase the court anyway, so don't pretend his opinion matters.

Sure, he said it was a bone headed idea once, but if the experts show him it's not, he'll change his mind.

That's what adults do when presented with new information.

It is similar in motives IMHO as trying to eliminate the filibuster now that they are in power, when they used the filibuster more than 200 times when they were the minority .

Now, now... you can't possibly know what's in their hearts...

Two words:

_ _ W _ _ G _ _ B

I'd like to buy a vowel, please...

Plain and simple - there is no other reason for it. The US was never designed to be a one party rule.

It was never designed to have any parties... but this is where we are.

Utopia is down the road a ways...

If it was the first time in history, you would have a point. But it isn’t, the Democrats have done the same in an election year.

They're just aggravated it happened to them. It has zero to do with what they themselves have spoken about when the shoe was on the other foot.
