It is interesting to read biographies of Christians of the past, how many of them were not the result of university education, but and the but is important they were educated in Christianity, they knew there Bible, they knew there theology and they had practical experience of living for Jesus in very difficult circumstances and of serving God.

Like Peter and John they were uneducated yet they had been with Jesus.

Matthew 11:17 - ‘We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not lament.’

Jesus Commissions uneducated men, and they forbid them to continue preaching (Acts 4:17,18; 21).

Jesus Commissions a man with a comprehensive secular and religious education, and they riot (Acts 19).

Personally do not know any peoples myself, nor have read many biographies of others. Aside maybe Paul and John.

Only had a teacher who happened to did go to Calvary Chapel school and studied there, but the more He got into the bible, the more of the previous things that he was taught in the tradition of the system of education changed over time while all having a relationship with God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

When we continue in a relationship with God and the Lord Jesus Christ, as God gives us the increase of our faith the more we learn and understanding knowledge of God's will, and spiritual understanding, and wisdom, the more rooted in Christ Jesus you become more thankful unto them.

Thank you for your comment, Tolworth.

Aubrey, I want you to be encouraged in the ministry you've chosen. We need more expository Bible teachers. A lot more. You teach anywhere you can. Someone will listen. Seriously. Just use the Spiritual gift God gave you. Don't lose heart.

Let's g
Unions kind-of did that already.
Let's get serious. How can anyone teach before they learn what to teach? The Apostles, except for Paul, were ignorant by world standards but they had God teaching and training them for their mission. It takes study to know what he taught them. Have you ever listened to a well-educated teacher?

I have and am really thankful for them. God is not opposed to study, just the pride that tries to exalt itself over the knowledge of Him.

Why did Jesus of Nazareth choose several fisherman to be Apostles but no shepherds? Was it a lifestyle thing: fisherman versus shepherd? Was it an easy access to boats? Was it just a coincidence? What?
Shepherds' work took them far from the people.

Certainly God had honored shepherds previously (including David).

Perhaps the first focus was upon "fishing". A "shepherding" focus might come later.

Also shepherding is a full time job. With fishing you can take days off but sheep don't tend themselves -- they need an alert shepherd.

Brought this to mind (from Asaph)...

He chose David his servant
and took him from the sheepfolds;
from following the nursing ewes he brought him
to shepherd Jacob his people,
Israel his inheritance.
With upright heart he shepherded them
and guided them with his skillful hand.
—Psalm 78

Being an apostle and a shepherd are not mutually exclusive, you can be both.

Here's Jesus instructing Peter in shepherding.
Jn21v17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.

Here's Peter himself instructing other believers to shepherd the flock.
1Pet5v2Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly;

Have you ever kept sheep?
Having kept sheep I can assure you they can be quite independent and will happily survive on the hills without man's attention. The biggest intervention will be to treat them for diseases, (something they could not do 2000 years ago), and protect them from wild animals, and keep track of those that belong to you.

Easy to imagine that the size of one's flock plays into it, eh? And things always run smoother when there's a couple of eyes on the job. Grapefruit trees can by and large take care of themselves but when you go to harvest your crop and find someone else has beat you to it you might begin to think that perhaps having a caretaker would pay for itself..
