From the "Fairly dangerous man ... to the 'left'" files: Gov. DeSantis Shreds Everything Wrong With CBS’s ‘Malicious Smear’ Report

“When you’re talking about this ridiculous smear narrative, it’s important to break down just how false, how thoroughly dishonest it is because this is bad for our country to have big corporate media smearing for profit just because I’m in the other party than them, and using their partisanship to craft narratives, regardless of the facts,” the Republican warned.
...
“There’s a video going out now, it’s got millions of views, it shows the ‘60 Minutes’ clip and then it shows the actual answer, and I can tell you, even people that may be on the other side of the aisle from me, when they look at that, you know, they uniformly understand that that was a smear, that that was editing to try to further a narrative and to try to hide the facts,” the governor continued
.

Even CNN admitted that '60 Minutes' ran a hit piece that quickly got debunked:
'60 Minutes' just gave Ron DeSantis a massive gift | CNN

The insinuation here, however, was pretty clear. Publix got this state contract because of the donation. Pay to play. Favoritism. All that good stuff.

The problem is that, in the wake of the "60 Minutes" report, multiple Democratic elected officials have come out to debunk the tie between the donation and Publix distributing the vaccine.
...
Becoming a major contender for a presidential nomination requires skill, yes. But it also requires being in the right place at the right time -- not to mention some lucky breaks. And this is a major one for DeSantis

From the "Fairly dangerous man ... to the 'left'" files:
DeSantis should play nice with the "left" seeing many Democrats have come out to defend him and provide proof the 60 Minutes journalist was either flat-out lying or hadn't done her homework. Personally, I believe she was lying/pure propaganda.

There is another thread on this topic.

No he should not. That's how things got so bad in the first place. Cowering to them because they were afraid of all the propaganda just made it as bad as it's gotten.

But it's all good as long as he trolls the left. #priorities
One of the most powerful red flags about Trump early on in late 2015 for me was that he would attack people, and greatly amplify whatever disagreement or difference to make it into some major dispute or attack.

The mountain out of a molehill tendency.

Well when your only platform is "lefties bad and radical" then you really have to lean in.

Red flag for folks like you and me -- his most charming quality for his supporters... he hated the people they hate, and was eager to demonstrate how much.

Ironically, that's also what endeared the corporate media to Trump, at least early on. They feared Ted Cruz and others far more than Donald Trump. Little did they know that Donald Trump would turn out to be their worst nightmare.

Were they endeared to him, or did they find him a source of entertainment, and thus ratings?

And aren't you excessively flattering Donald by calling him their worst nightmare?

That's much like how I see it though one thing that happened is that because of Trump, networks like FOX, MSNBC, and even the old and prestigious New York Times -- all of the above -- gained a lot of new viewers/readers/subscribers.

And when Trump lost, and after Jan 6 aftermath faded, then I bet that MSNBC has lost a lot of viewers, and probably FOX, and other media, all lost views/readers/subscribers.

Trump was a money maker for them all. And now they will have to adjust a bit to live on less, I imagine.

Not sure that's quite true. Although Fox News had become the most watched cable channel, not just the most watched news channel but actually the most watched cable channel, with new competition that's no longer true.

The old news media seems determined to follow newspapers into the dust bin of history.

Eh, with recently record subscribers and revenue, it might be early to think that newspaper sometimes called "the gray lady" is in the 'dust bin'.

When Donald Trump a couple of times said "the failing New York Times" see, Nighthawkeye, Donald was lying about that....

"For the year, it was $598.3 million, a 30 percent rise. Total subscription revenue in 2020 was up 10 percent, to $1.195 billion.Feb 4, 2021"

President Donald Trump loves to bash the New York Times. According to the newspaper’s July 2018 catalog of his insults against institutions and people, Trump had knocked the Times on 215 occasions since taking office, with his favorite epithets being “failing” and “fake.” Whatever his intention, Trump has made the Times great again.
Trump Says the New York Times Is ‘Failing.’ Its Stock Is Soaring

I think that's a fair assessment.

The New York Times was doing ok before Trump became president.

But after Trump became president it grew like a teenager.

Just saying....the truth of the matter.

Who feared Cancun Cruz? It's ironic that 'Lyin' Ted' is a laughing stock now.

TBT, my own state has such a high level of political toxicity that I don't have much time to follow DeSantis.

He completely mishandled of the COVID pandemic, and, since he leads a tourist state where people mingle, get infected, and infect their home states, he is a big reason why the U.S. has three million cases and 560,000 dead.

My sister in Florida got COVID and was very ill. My sister-in-law and niece, both of whom work in medical buildings (one in accounting, one a surgical tech), couldn't get vaccines until a week or so again because only "hospital" workers could get priority vaccines. I enjoy visiting my family in Florida, and we are fully vaccinated, but I don't feel very comfortable planning a trip there yet.
