What is the purpose of the Bible?

Is there an underlying theme to all of scripture? Is there a particular phrase or idea that is repeated throughout the entirety of scripture?

Jeremiah 9:6 Their dwelling place is in the midst of deceit;
Through deceit they refuse to know Me, says the Lord.

Jeremiah 22:16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well.
Was this not to know Me? says the Lord.

Jeremiah 24:7 Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord;
and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me
with their whole heart.

Jeremiah 9:24
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.

Isaiah 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

Isaiah 49:26
And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

2 Peter 3:18 Grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Yes, history is very important

Yes this also does happen as well.

the 66 books portray in picture our souls journey of a there and back, but in order to see this we must keep our women silent, which is to say we must refrain from eating of a tree yielding two fruits ...

The purpose of the Bible is to know Jesus Christ (GOD) and to follow His will and plan for our lives. The Bible is the faith. It is to have faith in what God says. For faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). The Bible helps us to draw closer to God and to follow Him and give Him the glory in all we say, and do in this life. Without the Bible, it would be like trying to go up a creek without a paddle. The purpose of the Bible is to make God known for our lives and to be redeemed and saved so as to one day be with Him in His Kingdom. The Bible is our lifeline involving the faith in connecting with God.

The Bible is where we learn to be saved by God's grace (Ephesians 2:8-9) (John 3:16) (Romans 10:13) (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) (John 1:12). The Bible is where we receive doctrine, and instruction in righteousness so that the man of God (or the woman of God) may be perfect unto all good works (See: 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

There is the 'battle of the sexes' theme lurking in there as well.

Thank you for posting this.

Wonder is anyone else would like to add anything to this thread : what is the purpose of the Bible?

The bible is a love story, it starts with a wedding and ends with a wedding.

The bible is a love story, it starts with a wedding and ends with a wedding.

It's a LOT more than that. There are many acts of violence, wars, deaths of all kinds, and other stories of hatred and violence throughout the entire Bible. That ain't no "love story".

Here is the start of the Bible...

Genesis 1:1-5, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water. God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light! God saw that the light was good, so God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” There was evening, and there was morning, marking the first day."

Here is the end the Bible...

Revelation 22:18-20, "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy contained in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.

The one who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all."

So, quite obviously, the Bible does not start with a wedding nor end with a wedding.

It starts with Adam and Eve who are married by God, it ends with Jesus returning for His bride the church. God loves us all the way through the Bible in spite of all the times we turn our back on Him and refuse to return His love we are the unfaithful wife that God takes back and loves as if we were faithful. The Bible is a love story.

It does not start with Adam and Eve who are married by God, it starts with the creation of the heavens and the earth.

It ends with a warning against changing what John wrote. And a promise that Jesus is coming soon.

We are most definitely not "the unfaithful wife that God takes back and loves as if we were faithful", we are His children, adopted into His family because of Jesus' sacrifice.

Why are you distorting the words of the Bible into a pseudo-romantic tale that simply isn't true? The Bible is many things, but it is not a love story.

Take of your rose-colored glasses and read the Bible, paying attention to what it actually says.

Read the book of Hosea.
