It is almost impossible that any American of average intelligence would not have had some inkling of the strict, formal rules of behavior, etc. that characterize the doings of the Royals.

And if such a person were also engaged to be married to a grandchild of the Queen and yet neither knew from films or TV or elsewhere the basic realities, if not all the details, and still did not make so much as a cursory inquiry....

Yet that is what Meghan claimed was true of her as she was about to be thrust into the center of all of it.

I do find it odd that a modern day democracy still maintains a royal family for largely symbolic sake. It will be interesting to see what happens once Queen Elizabeth (and the older UK generations) pass on...

Most Americans don't even know when to use "your highness" and when to use "your majesty." Or which tiara to wear on what occasions. Or exactly how different royal titles delineated fine distinctions of status.

Or any of thousands of other minutia neither you nor I even realize exist.

What's worse, as has been amply demonstrated, the British press regularly exorcised Megan for doing precisely the same things they had earlier praised Kate for doing.

If they want to withdraw the ceremonial role of the Church, so be it, I am not worried, it has no bearing on my faith, the Anglican communion can just continue as a faith group.

I remember when I was managing a call center, one of the call center reps insulted a prime, big-ticket customer.

Now, sometimes our reps say things according to company policy and customers feel like they're being insulted. But if the rep had been respectful and within company policy, I back them up. In this case, the guy's phone was unmuted when he decided to ridicule the customer to another rep...and that was a call that was being "monitored for quality assurance."

I told him to apologize or lose his job as well. And that was right here in the USA.

Knowing how cancel culture works, he probably would have lost his job even if he had apologized. He did the right thing. If he couldn’t save his job, at least he could save his dignity.

Good. He walked off in the middle of a broadcast, he should be sacked for that alone... I thought that he’d quit anyway, but maybe I misremember.
