Here's a radical idea: Republicans and Democrats are both just human, which means that they're going to sin. Instead of defending your preferred side from any accusations no matter what, why not just accept that they might do some bad things and should be held accountable for them?

QUESTION: How does an individual returning from a nightclub, driving 13 mph over the speed limit, demonstrating physical signs of intoxication, failing the "eye test" twice and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer, manage to escape criminal prosecution?
Despite Florida law that automatically suspends for 1 year anyone refusing a "breathalyzer" documented in the arresting officer's affidavit, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Safety would claim that no such evidence existed - the State Attorney returned Gaetz's driver's licence!
Between 1999 and 2014, Matt Gaetz would receive yet another 15 speeding tickets in Florida!
ANSWER: Those charges concerning Gaetz's DUI occurred in 2008 - by coincidence, his father, Don Gaetz, just happened to represent that part of NW Florida as a member of the Florida State Senate from 2006 to 2016, and as the Senate President from 2012 to 2014!

Matt Gaetz, Loyal for Years to Trump, Is Said to Have Sought a Blanket Pardon
The hits just keep coming.
Why would you seek a blanket pardon if you were innocent? There is speculation that the extortion accusation Gaetz put forth is actually referring to a bribe he was trying to give Trump in return for the pardons and when Trump rejected it he accused the guy who said that's what it would cost of extortion.
The congressman was at the time under investigation over whether he violated sex trafficking laws, though it was unclear what he knew of the inquiry.
In the final weeks of Mr. Trump’s term, Mr. Gaetz sought something in return. He privately asked the White House for blanket pre-emptive pardons for himself and unidentified congressional allies for any crimes they may have committed, according to two people told of the discussions.
Around that time, Mr. Gaetz was also publicly calling for broad pardons from Mr. Trump to thwart what he termed the “bloodlust” of their political opponents. But Justice Department investigators had begun questioning Mr. Gaetz’s associates about his conduct, including whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old that violated sex trafficking laws, in an inquiry that grew out of the case of an indicted associate in Florida.
