Yes, many of us are concerned with spiritual gifts !
Yes, many of us long for spiritual gifts !

Yes, we have heard:
All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills. -1 Corinthians 12:11

Likewise, this is what apostle Paul have said:

even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you' -1 Corinthians 1:6

so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, -1 Corinthians 1:7

So, as we wait and long for the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, we should concern ourselves whether the testimony about Christ was confirmed about us.

Why we are lacking in spiritual gifts ? It isn’t because Holy Spirit is not willing to apportion to us ! Holy Spirit will apportion the spiritual gifts to those who have the testimony of Christ was confirmed about them.

So let share what please the Holy Spirit! ; what is the testimony about Christ that Holy Spirit is looking for.

This is what we have heard about the testimony about Christ:

If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. -1 John 5:9

Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. -1 John 5:10

And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. -1 John 5:11

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. -1 John 5:12

Let Holy Spirit guide us into the truth of God’s love as we meditate what we have been told about.

When I was reconciled to the Lord the Holy Spirit had me pray for them all a few months later. Including celibacy, voluntary poverty, and martyrdom. The last was difficult to say! I prayed through the list several times that week and left it in God’s hands.

The exercise fostered contentment and satisfaction with my calling and lot in life. I knew I’d receive what He wanted to bestow and never felt otherwise.

Dear one,
I am delighted that you have reconciled with Holy Spirit. That Holy Spirit led you to peace in Christ Jesus.

Those choices that you have made regarding what the Lord have said to celibacy, voluntary poverty, and martyrdom; I am glad that Holy Spirit led you to contentment and satisfaction. Please share with us, how the Holy Spirit led you in prayer.

So dear one,
since you have believed in the Son, have the testimony in you.

Have you longed to have spiritual gifts ?
or you may have known what the Holy Spirit have apportioned for you ?

Share with us what Holy Spirit may reveal to you.

Some very good thoughts here about surrender to the leading of God by His Spirit. IF we are in truth a "child of God" by receiving the gift of our God in Jesus -the Christ (John 3; John 14, etc) apart from various religious ideas of men, then we are "sealed" by the Holy Spirit. Then we must YIELD the flesh willingly by bowing to our God. That comes by walking and talking with the Lord Jesus daily as God enjoins us "lo, I am with you always" (Matthew 28:20) . That is communion and God's promise. Yes, we always have the flesh in this world (and Satan will always seek to arouse it), but "greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world" -1 Jn. 4:4.

As we serve in the world we can exercise the spiritual gifts God gives to each of us; and it may not be preaching forth, but as a 'shepherd'; a 'light'; a 'voice' ---note in I Peter 2:5 & 9. Certainly we can say: 'precious is God's Word' for our guidance to life in Christ forever!

JS: I once thought this but then heard a song sung by the Amish. I no longer remember it but it was about Angles being all around us. I found out they believed there were and so all of them saw them. It got me to suspect this is true for all things Spiritual.

Thus Christ could do no miracles in his own town because they did not believe. Could this be why so few see spiritual gifts? Because they might want them but really struggle to believe in them?

Dear one,
This is what we have heard:
while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will. -Hebrews 2:4

So God may bear witness to the Amish and that they saw the angels whom He has sent.

Dear one, though one can long spiritual gifts !
All spiritual gifts are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills, we heard in 1 Corinthians 12:11.

As apostle Paul have said for us not lacking spiritual gifts, it is important that the testimony about Christ was confirmed in us !

So if we are longing for spiritual gift, we should concern ourselves whether the testimony about Christ was confirmed in us.

Yes, we have heard that apostle Paul have told the importance of testimony about was confirmed in us so that we don’t lack any spiritual gifts.

So that means Holy Spirit is looking that the testimony about Christ were confirmed in us before He apportions spiritual gifts to us.

The question is what is testimony about Christ that we haven’t yet understood and perceived that have been proclaimed to us ?

This is what we have heard:
He bears witness to what He has seen and heard, yet no one receives His testimony. -John 3:32

Why haven’t received His testimony? How to receive Christ’s testimony?

we can perceive by what the Lord have said in John 3:32 that we need to imitate the Lord by
bears witness to what we in Christ has seen and heard, that is, we trust and speak what we have perceived and understood what the Lord have said to others.

Do Holy Spirit want us to struggle to receive our spiritual gifts ? I don’t think so.

But we must yield our lives to Holy Spirit.

That is, The life led by Holy Spirit !
That is, submitting ourselves to the truth of Christ’s words !
A life as children of God.

Is it wrong for children to long for spiritual gifts ? No.

So let us trust in the Lord and speak what the Lord has made us understand and perceived about Him.

Let Holy Spirit find that the testimony of Christ are found in us.

Are we trying to be good enough to receive spiritual gifts ?
Are we good enough to earn these gifts ?

Since we are under grace, not under the law.
What we need to do daily is to be union with the Lord

By being union with the Lord, we will know how to use these spiritual gifts according to His purpose and will.

Blessings in Christ Jesus! The Gifts are The Giver of the Gifts within us.(The Holy Spirit not Holy Spirit) They are used according to His will and purpose with the exception of speaking in Tongues. We only need to be clean, and have faith that He will provide, and He does, for He is faithful. Sorry for the gentle correction but as in the old He was The Lord and has said The Lord is my Name and in the new for those that are truly born from above, The Holy Spirit has entered in, for they have received The Father and The Son(Jesus) in the form of The Holy Spirit. So that you may know, I am the least worthy of the measure of Grace that He gave me. I am nothing and He is all. And yet, I do walk in The Spirit and preach in The Spirit as He wills and sees fit. There is no preparation or for thought, only faith(also a gift) and to be repented up(made clean by the Blood of The Lamb). As Paul has said, I become all things to all people that some may be saved. I never know what might leave these lips, but I do know that The Lord is like a Master Builder always building on top of the foundation He lays. And That foundation Is Christ Jesus. Have a Blessed day and keep up the Good Work!

I think that person means that one should refer to the Holy Spirit as The Holy Spirit and not just Holy Spirit as some choose to do. Such as there are some soft music "soaking" videos on youtube that I use that say "Time with Holy Spirit" as opposed to "Time with the Holy Spirit". It doesn't really matter either way. Refer to Him as you wish.

JS: if it were so easy everyone who claimed faith would have a spiritual gift. And indeed soon after the Messiah’s death faith was so strong what you say above was mostly true.

Yet disciplining the ego, the “me, my own, my precious” selfish heart is not so easy especially in a fallen world. And if a child longing for such a gift is a good distance from the holiness they need to reach this, why would the Holy Spirit not discipline them to help them reach that goal, 23rd Psalm.

So its not a lack of trust that says the Dark Night is necessary for Spiritual growth for must believers.

Dear JS,
About spiritual gifts, it is not as you understand that everyone or anyone that could claim in faith would have spiritual gifts.

If that is the way! Then it depends on our faith to have spiritual gifts. But it was not so.

For this is what we have heard:
All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, WHO apportions to each one individually as He wills. -1 Corinthians 12:11

Whether we have spiritual gifts, it is not our faith that decides whether we can have this spiritual gift or that one.

The one who decides whether we have spiritual gifts is the Holy Spirit.

Yes, we can long which spiritual gift that we would like to have but we have been told that the Holy Spirit who apportions or determines for us.

What apostle Paul told us what the Holy Spirit looks for in a person whom He gives His spiritual gifts ; that is a person to be found to have the testimony about Christ confirmed among us, as apostle have said in 1 Corinthians 1:6-7

What I understand and perceived from 1 John 5: 9-12 ; that is : we have the testimony of Christ when we believe Christ; believing Christ means that we obey what Christ have said or taught ; that His teaching is in our hearts. And we have the testimony of God in us when we have the Son of God ; that means that we confess before others about Christ, who have died and rose again to give us eternal life. ( 1 John 2:23 )

With that, we have the testimony of Christ among us. That is what the Holy Spirit is looking for — the testimony of Christ among us.

When Holy Spirit gives His spiritual gifts ; I don’t know ; what spiritual gifts ; only Holy Spirit knows ; How the Holy Spirit gives His gifts — only He knows.

Our concern is only to do what we are taught in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Any way, this spiritual gifts that Holy Spirit that He gives — this is what we have heard:

while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. -Hebrews 2:4

So the Holy Spirit distributes gifts according to His will — to relate God the Father and the Son’s witness !

If God gives us witness ! This must be really something important for us to understand and perceive ; that He manifest spiritual reality that affects our physical reality ; and He can manifest through spiritual gifts that He apportion to us by His Holy Spirit.

So not about whether we are good enough !
It is about whether we have done what we are told what is written to us.

Let us have the testimony of Christ confirmed among us; that we bring delights to the Holy Spirit.

For this is about Holy Spirit’s spiritual gifts, let
Him give because He is delighted to give ; because it brings joy to Him that He gives us.

Let us have the spiritual gift remembering that He gives because God bore witness through us.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are:

Ministry gifts: apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher.

Manifestation gifts: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, interpretation of tongues.

Sacrificial gifts: celibacy, voluntary poverty, martyrdom.

Service gifts: helps, administration, craftsmanship, serving, giving.

People-intensive gifts: encouragement, hospitality, mercy, teaching, pastoring, leadership, evangelism.

These gifts are given to us to help and support the church and each other. I'm sure all of us have displayed some of these gifts.

For me they have mostly been; faith, helps, serving, giving, celibacy. Perhaps teaching as well. And some evangelism. I'm not sure if my poverty is voluntary or just situational. But I have little to no desire for material things outside of necessities.

Can you share your thoughts on any spiritual gift or your spiritual experience with Holy Spirit or spiritual insights that you may have.
That would be helpful, too.

I like the examples you have given here. I think all of us as Christians have spiritual gifts given to us to help us in our service for Christ.
I was particularly intrigued by the idea that craftsmanship is a service gift.
I write music as a hobby. Everyone's taste in music is very subjective. Some people like hearing my music. Some people listen to it and think "well that's nice" and others are not keen on my music at all!
I remember putting together a selection of tracks and posting it with a card to a friend of mine who was terminally ill with cancer. I returned home one day to find she had left a message on my answer phone. She told me that the moment she played the CD, she felt the Lord's presence with her comforting her. Later, I gave a CD to another friend of mine who was suffering from a major illness and she told me that she could not stop playing the CD because she felt it encouraged her and gave her comfort.

I suppose I've demonstrated craftsmanship too some in helping with church addition construction and helping out with setups for plays and events. I hope I get an opportunity for that in the future. Even if it's just doing some painting or pounding some nails.
