First of all my question was —

  • Does anyone in this thread have some scriptures from Jesus or His apostles that instruct the Church how to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant?

Secondly, Hebrews 4:9 does not say ... THEREFORE IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH

I do understand why you blatantly misquote the scriptures though.

For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Hebrews 4:8-10

Joshua did not give them rest, yet they kept the Sabbath under the law of Moses.

The rest being referred to here in Hebrews 4:9 is rest from war.

Finally, I gave examples of instructions as to how the children of Israel were to observe the Sabbath, and asked this question.

Is the Church obligated to obey these instructions that were given to the children of Israel under the law of Moses?

Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’ ” So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it. Then Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.”
Now it happened that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none. And the Lord said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws? See! For the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” So the people rested on the seventh day. Exodus 16:23-30

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Exodus 31:12-15

Then Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said to them, “These are the words which the Lord has commanded you to do: Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh day shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. You shall kindle no fire throughout your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”Exodus 35:1-3

Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” So, as the Lord commanded Moses, all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died. Numbers 15:32-36

And on the Sabbath day two lambs in their first year, without blemish, and two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour as a grain offering, mixed with oil, with its drink offering— this is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering with its drink offering. Numbers 28:9-10

After all, these are God’s commandments and those is His word.

If you don’t know the answer or have any scriptures from Jesus or His apostles that gives us clear instructions as to HOW the Church is to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant, it’s ok you don’t have to answer with some man made answer.

We want what Jesus said we are to do according to His instructions, unless you believe we are to do what they did under the law of Moses.

The laws have not changed from the Old Covenant to the New, just the promises.
We are told His covenant will never change which includes the Sabbath commandment He asked us to Remember.

It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail” (Luke 16:17).
“My covenant I will not break, nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips” (Psalm 89:34).
“All His precepts [commandments] are sure. They stand fast forever and ever” (Psalm 111:7, 8).

Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Sabbath started from creation Genesis 2:1-3, the 4th commandment that God wrote says "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it Holy" Exodus 20:8-11 His covenant can not be broken Luke 16:17, Psalms 89:34, Psalms 111:7,8, Jesus also kept the Sabbath Luke 4:16, Jesus disciples kept the Sabbath Acts 16:13, Acts 17:2, Jews and Gentiles kept Sabbath Acts 13:42-44,Acts 18:4, Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man Mark 2:27,the Sabbath is a sign of God's people Ezekiel 20:20, how we are sanctified Ezekiel 20:12, The reference regarding Sabbath commandment after Jesus rose Luke 23:56, Jesus said If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love John 10:15. There are over 170 verses in the bible regarding the Sabbath and only eight verses on the first day (nothing to do with holy or God's Sabbath) On the New Earth we will worship on God's chosen holy day each and every Sabbath Isaiah 66:23. When we obey we are allowing God to be God.

Happy Sabbath!

We are told His covenant will never change which includes the Sabbath commandment He asked us to Remember.
If that were true, which it isn't, why are you not observing all of those laws that pertained to the average Israelite? We are not told the old covenant will not change.

Was sacrificing animals for sin a commandment. Please explain the "foreverness" of those laws. God has never broken a covenant, but man certainly has. If we understand what a covenant is we would know that if either party of the covenant breaks the covenant in any way it becomes void. You are not informing us with the real truth.

Luke 16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one small part of a word in the Law to be of no more use.
Matt5: 18 I tell you, as long as heaven and earth last, not one small mark or part of a word will pass away of the Law of Moses until it has all been done. All was done at Calvary.

The fact is that the old covenant was given to Israel and only Israel. Gentiles have never been under the laws of Israel's covenant. Gentiles could join, but never were we required. Today there is nothing to join because the covenant ended at Calvary where Jesus introduced the new and better covenant, the covenant with better laws.

Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Do you have any ideas what that really means in light of the incident on Mt Sinai where God declared He was going to destroy all of the Israelites and Moses talked Him out of doing so????

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Thank God for that because He has never required Christians to observe any of the Israelites ceremonial days which Sabbath was one.

Sabbath started from creation Genesis 2:1-3,
That is not what scripture says.

the 4th commandment that God wrote says "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it Holy" Exodus 20:8-11
That statement in no way proves that anyone ever observed the Sabbath before it was introduced after the crossing of the Red Sea. It took several weeks to arrive at the Red Sea and there is no account of God having them stop along the way to observe the Sabbath. God was leading them to the Red Sea and didn't stop to observe the Sabbath that you think He perpetually initiated the day after He made all creation. Your theory does not make any sense. Someone has dupped you into believing something that is not part of Scripture.

His covenant can not be broken Luke 16:17, Psalms 89:34, Psalms 111:7,8,
Ex 19:5 tells us the covenant was an "IF" covenant and could be broken. The Israelites certainly had the right to break it and did just that.

Jesus also kept the Sabbath Luke 4:16, Jesus disciples kept the Sabbath Acts 16:13, Acts 17:2,
They were still under the old covenant requirement for Jews.

Jews and Gentiles kept Sabbath Acts 13:42-44,Acts 18:4,
Gentiles that became Jews probably did observe the laws concerning Sabbath. The other part of the verses where the whole community came does not, in any way, mean that they kept the day.

Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man Mark 2:27,
It was made For the Israelite man for sure. Since Gentiles were never asked by God to observe it I seriously doubt if it was made for all mankind.

the Sabbath is a sign of God's people Ezekiel 20:20,
God's old covenant people, Israel. The Holy Spirit is the sign for all today.

Jesus said If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love Mark 10:15.
I think you are referring to Jn 15:10. Those are the verses that prove Matt 5 where Jesus said He came to fulfill the law and the prophets. Fulfill meaning bring to an end. In Jn 15:10 Jesus is telling us we are to keep Jesus commands and He told us what His command is the we should love others as He loves us. The command that is written on our s. Jesus kept the law all His life and what He said in Jn15 was just a few days before His crucifixion. 1Jn 3:19-24 tell us the same thing.

Thanks for that fact that doesn't prove that we are under any law concerning the observance of a day, any day.

Happy Sabbath!
The old covenant Sabbath, given only to the Israelites, was never a really truly a happy day for me because I broke it every week. I did this for forty years. If it were truly a day we have to "keep" I wonder how long God would have put up with my having to confess I sinned the same sin? I thank my Savior for the new and better covenant given to all mankind, the covenant of Love.

Good luck talking to him or any other SDA -I give up.

The Sabbath, was a sign of the covenant between the Lord and Israel, there were blessings for keeping it and death for those who broke it. -Which is why they were in an uproar when Jesus broke it.

Jesus did not abolish the Sabbath because he was a Jew living under the Old Covenant. he came to fulfill the law of the Old Covenant.
Matthew 5:17-22
"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

What he did do was change the focus off the sabbath from being a pile of do's and not do's into what it's real purpose was for. “the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” It was something that mankind needed, a day of rest and to worship God. This was said while Israel was still under the Old Covenant, the New Covenant had yet to come in.

Jesus observing the sabbath does not equal us keeping it.
If every part of the law that Jesus followed was a command to us then we would still be under circumcision, which we are not. Jesus was circumcised on the 8th day because the old covenant law required it. Likewise he observed the sabbath because the old convent law required it.

The Sabbath was the covenant sign of the Mosaic covenant, and like all the rest of the Mosaic covenant it is clear that believers are no longer under the rules and regulation of it. You are either under all of it or under none of it. There is no cherry picking.

Paul identifies the Sabbath as a shadow along with requirements regarding foods, festivals and everything else that was part of the old covenant.

Colossians 2:16-17

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
The entire old covenant was a shadow of Christ.

If you wish to keep the sabbath you can do so in faith. If someone else wants to observe Sunday they may do so in faith and if someone wants to observe every day they may do so in faith.
Romans 14
5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.
Paul does not care whether someone observes one day as special or not. He leaves it entirely up to personal conviction. If the Sabbath of the Old Testament were still in force, Paul would never have said that.

The only thing that is sin are the actions that don't come from faith.

Romans
23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.
Anything not done in faith is sin. Whether it is keeping or not keeping something.

keeping or not keeping Saturday as a Sabbath is not sinful and we are not called to do so.

Hello coffee4u, some comments provided for you below for your consideration looking at some of the contexts you have left out of the claims in your post here which might be helpful to the discussion.
Good luck talking to him or any other SDA -I give up
Well that is sad. All that has been provided to you is scripture and scripture context that disagrees with what you have been providing here. Everyone of your posts have been addressed in detail section by section and scripture by scripture showing why I believe your claims here are not biblical. The last example of this of course was provided in post # 377 linked.
The Sabbath, was a sign of the covenant between the Lord and Israel, there were blessings for keeping it and death for those who broke it.
Gods Sabbath is one of Gods' 10 commandments that he has given to His people. In the old and new covenant Gods' ISRAEL is only a name given by God to all those who believe and follow Gods' Word. According to the new covenant scriptures, God's ISRAEL are no longer those in the flesh born of the seed of Abraham but those who are now born in the Spirit to believe and follow Gods' Word *Romans 9:6-8; Galatians 3:28-29; Romans 2:28-29. There is no no more Jewish and Gentile believers as we are all now one in Christ *Ephesians 2:11-13; Colossians 3:11; Romans 10:11-13. If we are not a part of God's ISRAEL according to the scriptures we have no part in Gods' new covenant promise *Hebrews 8:10-12 from Jeremiah 31:31-34; Ezekiel 36:24-27. Gentile believers are now grafted in with Jewish believers according to Romans 11:13-27.
-Which is why they were in an uproar when Jesus broke it.
Jesus never broke Gods' 4th commandment "seventh day Sabbath" commandment (Exodus 20:8-11). This claim is not biblical. If Jesus broke anyone of Gods 10 commandments he would have been a sinner and therefore we would all be lost. Fortunately, this claim is not biblical as we are told that Jesus was our sinless sacrifice without spot or blemish *Hebrews 9:14 as required in the old covenant sin offerings (e.g Numbers 28:3-11). Jesus was sinless meaning he did not break anyone of Gods' 10 commandments according to the scriptures *Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 9:28). Jesus broke the traditions of the Scribes and Pharisees in regards to the Sabbath teaching them that he is the Lord and creator of the Sabbath that he created for all mankind and it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath in Mark 2:27-28 and Matthew 12:1-12.
Jesus did not abolish the Sabbath because he was a Jew living under the Old Covenant. he came to fulfill the law of the Old Covenant. Matthew 5:17-22 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
Already addressed above through the scriptures on who Gods' ISRAEL is in the new covenant. There is no more Jewish or Gentile believers in the new covenant as all are now one in Christ. If we are not a part of Gods' ISRAEL today we have no part in Gods new covenant promise *Hebrews 8:10-12 as it is now written; Romans 2:28-29 [28], FOR HE IS NOT A JEW WHICH IS ONE OUTWARDLY; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OUTWARDS IN THE FLESH: [29], BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; and CIRCUMCISION IS OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Kind of but not quite. The new covenant started in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and Jesus did not keep the law according to the new covenant scriptures so that we no longer have to. According to James if we break anyone of God's 10 commandments (written after the death and resurrection and ascension of Jesus) we stand guilty before God of breaking all of Gods' commandments in James 2:10-11. John goes on to say if we say we know God while breaking His commandments we do not know God and are lying in 1 John 2:3-4 and the difference between those who know God and those who do not is that those who know God keep His commandments in 1 John 3:3-10; Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12 and Revelation 22:14.
According to the scriptures Jesus was our example as was Paul the apostles (1 Corinthians 11:1; Ephesians 5:1-2; 1 Peter 2:20-22; Matthew 16:23; Philippians 3:17; 2 Thessalonians 3:9) who's custom it was to keep Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandment according to the scriptures in *Luke 4:16; Acts of the Apostles 17:2. In the new covenant Gods' 10 commandments have the same role they always have and that is to give us the knowledge of good (moral right doing of obeyed) and evil (moral wrong doing if broken); sin (moral wrong doing) and righteousness (moral right doing) *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172 and according to James in James 2:10-11 if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin. This of course must include Gods' seventh day Sabbath which is one of Gods' 10 commandments that Jesus and all the Apostles kept and everyone of them being also repeated in the new covenant scriptures as a requirement for Christian living (scriptures support here).
Paul identifies the Sabbath as a shadow along with requirements regarding foods, festivals and everything else that was part of the old covenant. Colossians 2:16-17 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. The entire old covenant was a shadow of Christ.
Actually no. The Greek word "sabbaton"σαββάτων used in Colossians 2:16 is genitive neuter plural [GNP] meaning plural application to Sabbath{s} meaning sabbath days. The context is to the annual sabbaths in the Feast days not Gods' 4th commandment. The Feast sabbaths and days of holy convocation (no work sabbaton) are not the same as Gods' 4th commandment that is linked only the seventh day of the week from God's 10 commandments in Exodus 20:8-11 but to the annual Feast days which can fall on any day of the week depending on the yearly cycle (e.g. There are many sabbaths in the old covenant that are not God's 4th commandment seventh day Sabbath (1) Feast of Unleavened Bread (first and last day) *Leviticus 23:6-8; (2) Feast of Trumpets *Leviticus 23:24-25; (3) Day of Atonement *Leviticus 23:27-32; (4) Feast of Booths *Leviticus 23:34-36; (5) Feast of First Fruits *Leviticus 23:39; (6) Feast days of Holy convocation of no work *Leviticus 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36; (7) Sabbath rest of the land (7-year cycle) *Leviticus 25:2; (8) Sabbath of Jubilee culminating of the 7x7 yearly cycles sabbaths *Leviticus 25:9-54).
If you wish to keep the sabbath you can do so in faith. If someone else wants to observe Sunday they may do so in faith and if someone wants to observe every day they may do so in faith. Romans 14 5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Romans 3 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin. Anything not done in faith is sin. Whether it is keeping or not keeping something. keeping or not keeping Saturday as a Sabbath is not sinful and we are not called to do so.
I respectfully disagree with your claims here but let me show why through the scriptures again. There is no mention of the Sabbath in any of the book of Romans whatsoever. Romans 14 is talking about eating and not eating on days that men esteem over other days not what days God esteems over other days and judging others in this regard and this chapter has nothing to do with God's 4th commandment Sabbath whatsoever. Your attempting to read the Sabbath into Romans 14 when the Sabbath is not the topic of the subject matter being discussed in order to try and justify breaking the Sabbath which is one of God's 10 commandments according to the scriptures that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken according to Paul in Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; John in 1 John 3:4 and James in James 2:10-11. Let's now cut to the chase. Sunday worship is a man-made teaching and tradition that has led many either knowingly or unknowingly to break God's 4th commandment that gives us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *Romans 3:20 etc. There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says Gods' 4th commandment has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest. According to Jesus if we knowingly follow man-made teachings and traditions we are not worshiping God in Matthew 15:3-9. So who should we believe and follow according to the scriptures; God or man? (Romans 3:4; Acts of the Apostles 5:29).

Something we should all pray about I guess

And first of all your question was answered in the very post and scriptures you are part quoting from. Perhaps you did not like the answers. What was not answered and why are you quoting old covenant scripture when we are in the new covenant?

You have not answered my question at all.

You quote Old Testament scripture to validate your “Sabbath Keeping” doctrine until someone actually points out all that is required by the law.

So now that you agree, that we are no longer under the law of Moses, please answer my question.

Here is my question —

  • Does anyone in this thread have some scriptures from Jesus or His apostles that instruct the Church how to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant?

Let me know when you find one.

Sure your question was answered and scriptures were provided to answer them. I guess you just did not like the answers given but they are God's Words not mine as shown in post # 380 linked for all to see. As shown in the new covenant scriptures Jesus came to teach us that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath in Matthew 12:1-12; That he is Lord and creator of the Sabbath that he made for all mankind in Mark 2:27-28. That he did not come to abolish any of the 10 commandments in Matthew 5:17-19. Paul warns us in Hebrews 3:8-19 and Hebrews 4:1-12 that if we do not believe and follow Gods' Word we cannot enter into God's seventh day Sabbath rest and that it remains for the people of God who believe and follow Gods' Word to keep the Sabbath in Hebrews 4:9. James also telling us that if we break God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments that we stand guilty before God of breaking all of God's 10 commandments in James 2:10-11.

Your welcome.

No LGW, Jesus came to tell the Jews that it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Gentiles were not included. To use the word "us" in not true.

That he is Lord and creator of the Sabbath that he made for all mankind in Mark 2:27-28. That he did not come to abolish any of the 10 commandments in Matthew 5:17-19.
No, He fulfilled them. Fulfill = bring to an end Why did Paul write in 2Cor 3:11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

That is not true LGW, the writer was telling the Jews, not US, they had never entered God's rest. Observing the seventh-day was/is not entering God's Rest. Jews had been resting on the seventh-day since before Sinai. God's rest is not observing the seventh-day.

James also telling us that if we break God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments that we stand guilty before God of breaking all of God's 10 commandments in James 2:10-11.
No he was not. There was no Sabbath command for Christians or Jews. The old covenant Law ended at Calvary.

Your response here

Sorry Bob but I respectfully disagree, all these scriptures according to 1 Corinthians 10:11 happened to them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the world are come. God is not the God of the dead but of the living *Matthew 22:32 God's Word is written for God's people and Jesus tells us in Mark 2:27 that the Sabbath was made for all mankind and that he is the Lord and creator of it in Mark 2:28. According to the new covenant promises Gentile believer are now included in Gods new covenant promise and now grafted in to God's ISRAEL (Hebrews 8:10-12 from Jeremiah 31:31-34; Ezekiel 36:24-27; Romans 11:13-27) who are defined in the new covenant scriptures as all those who believe and follow Gods' Word (Romans 9:6-8; Galatians 3:28-29; Romans 2:28-29; Ephesians 2:11-13)

No, He fulfilled them. Fulfill = bring to an end Why did Paul write in 2Cor 3:11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

Sorry Bob but I respectfully disagree. Jesus did not fulfill Gods' laws so we do not have to. Jesus says "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one stroke or one pronunciation mark shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-19). Jesus did not come to bring an end to the 10 commandments Bob, he came to magnify them from the inside out

2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-14
[1], Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, letters of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?

[2], you are our letter written in our hearts, known and read of all men:

[3], For as much as you are manifestly declared to be the letter of Christ ministered by us, WRITTEN NOT WITH INK, BUT WITH THE SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD; NOT IN TABLES OF STONE, BUT IN FLESHY TABLES OF THE HEART.

Note: in [v3] that Paul is stating that the Corinthians here are letters of Christ ministered by Paul and his companions “written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone (reference to the 10 commandments) but IN the fleshly tables of the HEART! Pauls reference here is to Gods new covenant promise of JEREMIASH 31:31-34 repeated by Paul in HEBREWS 8:10-12 [10], FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT that i will make with the house of israel after those days, said the lord; I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MIND, AND WRITE THEM IN THEIR HEARTS: and I will be to them a god, and they shall be to me a people.

So the context here is the ministration (Paul and his companions being the ministers) of the new covenant Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ of which the Corinthians are examples who have been given a new heart to love God and walk in his commandments which is the new covenant promise of JEREMIAH 31:31-34 repeated by Paul in HEBREWS 8:10-12 and HEBREWS 10:15-17.

[4], And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

[5], Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.

[6], WHO ALSO HAS MADE US ABLE MINISTERS OF THE NEW COVENANT; NOT OF THE LETTER, BUT OF THE SPIRIT: FOR THE LETTER KILLS, BUT THE SPIRIT GIVES LIFE.

Note: in [6] the context are repeated from [v3] that is that Paul and his companions were the MINISTERS of the NEW COVENANT. “NOT OF THE LETTER OF THE LAW BUT OF THE SPIRIT; FOR THE LETTER KILLS BUT THE SPIRIT GIVES LIFE”.

Note: no where here does [v6] teach that God’s law is abolished. It simply states that “the letter killeth” that is the letter of the law gives us a knowledge of what sin is *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 when God’s 10 commandments are broken and the penalty of sin is death *ROMANS 6:21-23; ROMANS 8:13 but it is not able to save us from sin and change our hearts to love and follow God.

Note: in [v6] continued “FOR THE LETTER KILLS BUT THE SPIRIT GIVETH LIFE” reference to the new covenant promise of JEREMIAH 31:31-34; HEBREWS 8:10-12 and HEBREWS 10:15-17. The Jews had the letter of the law but did not have the Spirit of the law. JESUS said to the Jews that “unless your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven” *MATTHEW 5:20; MATTHEW 23:13. The Scribes and Pharisees had the letter of the law but not the Spirit of the law. They had the outward appearance as to what the law required but not the change of heart that the new covenant promised *JEREMIAH 31:31-34; HEBREWS 8:10-12; HEBREWS 10:15-17. “THE LETTER KILLS BUT THE SPIRIT GIVETH LIFE”. They had the letter or outward forms and ceremonies but were not born again *JOHN 3:3-7; 1 JOHN 3:6-9 by the Spirit to love through a change of heart by the Spirit that brings life. On the OUTSIDE the Scribes and Pharisees appeared righteous to men but inwardly they were breaking God’s law and were full of dead mans bones *MATTHEW 23:25:28.

Jesus came to magnify God’s 10 commandment from the inside out quoting Matthew 5:17-32 (applying adultery and murder to our thoughts and feelings) in fulfillment of *Isaiah 42:21. This is to show that unless our righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees we can in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus is saying the problem runs deeper then outward observance to the 10 Commandments. Evil (moral wrong doing) begins in the heart. Breaking God's 10 commandments from the heart according to Jesus is what defiles a man in Matthew 15:18-19. Jesus is saying we can be outwardly perfect and blameless like the Scribes and Pharisee but inwardly like dead mans bones *Matthew 23:27-28.

Jesus magnified the law to the inside out. To show us that we are all sinners in need of a Savior and that sin originates in the heart (thoughts and feelings). That is why we have God’s new covenant promise to of a new heart to love and why we need to be born again by faith in God's Word for salvation to be free from sin (breaking any one of God's 10 commandments) *Hebrews 8:10-12; 1 John 3:3-10.

This is leading to the new covenant promise of a new heart to love *Hebrews 8:10-12; John 5:42; 1 John 5:17-19; 1 John 4:16; 1 John 5:3; 1 John 4:8.

Without Jesus we do not have the love of God in us *John 5:42. We need to be born of God to love *1 John 4:7 and partake of the new covenant promise. This is why Jesus teaches in *John 3:3-7 that unless we are made clean from the inside out and born again to love we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This is what Jesus is talking about in Matthew 5:20 when discussing the Scribes and the Pharisees teaching the application of God's law from the inside out and applying God’s 10 commandments to our very thoughts.

Whosoever is born of god to love in the new covenant *Hebrews 8:10-12 does not commit sin according to the scriptures in 1 John 3:9; Romans 13:8-10; James 2:8-12; Romans 3:31; Matthew 22:36-40. This is the good news of the gospel in the new covenant. We have a Saviour to save us from sin (not in sin) but we have to be made new to walk in God's Spirit *Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:1-4.

1 John 3:3-10 is talking about all those who are born again to love and it is love that fulfills God's law in all those who believe and follow god's word in the new covenant *Hebrews 8:10-12; Romans 13:8-10. This results in a people that keep God’s law (10 commandments) from the inside out. *Revelation 14:12; Revelation 22:14; 1 John 2:3-4; 1 John 3:3-10; Romans 13:8-10; Romans 3:31; Hebrews 8:10-12. Unless we are born again to love we cannot enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *JOHN 3:3-7.

………….

So what the conclusion of the matter?

ECCLESIASTES 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: FEAR GOD, AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: FOR THIS IS THE WHOLE DUTY OF MAN.

God’s LAW (10 commandments) are not abolished they are fulfilled and established in the life of a believer as they believe God’s Word and abide in Christ and walk in God’s Spirit *GALATIANS 5:16; ROMANS 3:31; ROMANS 8:4.

[7], BUT IF THE MINISTRATION OF DEATH, WRITTEN AND ENGRAVED IN STONES, WAS GLORIOUS, SO THAT THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL COULD NOT STEADFASTLY BEHOLD THE FACE OF MOSES FOR THE GLORY OF HIS COUNTENANCE; WHICH GLORY WAS TO BE DONE AWAY:

Note: It is condemnation and death (sin) that is to be done away with and the letter through the Spirit not God’s law as God’s law is not sin but is Holy, Just and Good * ROMANS 7:7; ROMANS 7:11-12 and gives us a knowledge of what sin is in the new covenant *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7 and leads us to Christ that we might be forgiven through faith *GALATIANS 3:22-25

[8], HOW SHALL NOT THE MINISTRATION OF THE SPIRIT BE RATHER GLORIOUS?

[9], FOR IF THE MINISTRATION OF CONDEMNATION BE GLORY, MUCH MORE DOES THE MINISTRATION OF RIGHTEOUSNESS EXCEED IN GLORY.

Note: The 10 commandments (the letter) written on stone is the “MINISTRATION OF CONDEMNATION” that is it condemns sin or the breaking of God’s 10 commandments. It brings a knowledge is sin and condemnation brings the guilt of sin which is death. Through the Spirit of JESUS our sins are forgiven as we have faith in God’s Word *JOHN 3:16-19; 1 JOHN 1:9 and His Spirit through faith in the Word of God *JOHN 6:63 changes our heart *HEBREWS 8:10-12 to love and obedience that leads to righteousness *ROMANS 13:8-10; HEBREWS 8:10-12; ROMANS 3:31; ROMANS 8:1-4; ROMANS 6:14:16; ROMANS 1:5; 1 JOHN 2:3-4; 1 JOHN 3:6-9; REVELATION 14:12; REVELATION 22:14.

[10], FOR EVEN THAT WHICH WAS MADE GLORIOUS HAD NO GLORY IN THIS RESPECT, BY REASON OF THE GLORY THAT EXCELS.

[11], FOR IF THAT WHICH IS DONE AWAY WAS GLORIOUS, MUCH MORE THAT WHICH REMAINS IS GLORIOUS.

Note: The purpose of God’s law was only to give us a knowledge of what sin is *ROMANS 3:20 and to lead us to JESUS *GALATIANS 3:22-25. It could never change us and free us from the power and condemnation of sin. The old covenant Sanctuary laws for remission of sins (burnt offerings and animal sacrifices and blood offerings) pointed to JESUS and God’s plan of salvation in the new covenant and God’s promise of salvation from sin’s power *JEREMIAH 31:31-34; HEBREWS 8:10-12; HEBREWS 10:15-17; JOHN 8:31-36; 1 JOHN 3:6-9.

[12], Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

[13], AND NOT AS MOSES, WHICH PUT A VEIL OVER HIS FACE, THAT THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL COULD NOT STEADFASTLY LOOK TO THE END OF THAT WHICH IS ABOLISHED:

Note: the veil to be abolished is the “letter of condemnation and sin” which leads to the Spirit of life which is received by faith in God’s Word that leads us to the Spirit of Christ that works in us to love *PHILIPPIANS 2:13; HEBREWS 8:10-12; ROMANS 3:31; ROMANS 8:1-4; GALATIANS 3:22-25; GALATIANS 5:16; ROMANS 13:8-10; 1 JOHN 3:6-9; REVELATION 14:12.

[14], BUT THEIR MINDS WERE BLINDED: FOR UNTIL THIS DAY REMAINS THE SAME VEIL NOT TAKEN AWAY IN THE READING OF THE OLD TESTAMENT; WHICH VEIL IS DONE AWAY IN CHRIST.

[15], BUT EVEN TO THIS DAY, WHEN MOSES IS READ, THE VEIL IS ON THEIR HEART.

Note: Following the “letter of the law”(old covenant) only leads to the outward appearance of righteousness condemned by JESUS when talking to the Scribes and Pharisees as highlighted above and in MATTHEW 5:20; MATTHEW 23:13 MATTHEW 23:25-28. We need to be saved from the INSIDE and receive a new heart to love. Outward obedience to God’s law does not save us because sin originates from the heart *MATTHEW 5:17-27.

[16], NEVERTHELESS WHEN IT SHALL TURN TO THE LORD, THE VEIL SHALL BE TAKEN AWAY.

[17], NOW THE LORD IS THAT SPIRIT: AND WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS LIBERTY.

[18], BUT WE ALL, WITH OPEN FACE BEHOLDING AS IN A GLASS THE GLORY OF THE LORD, ARE CHANGED INTO THE SAME IMAGE FROM GLORY TO GLORY, EVEN AS BY THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD.

The Spirit of the law is JESUS and God’s new covenant promise of salvation from sin and a new heart to love *HEBREWS 8:10-12; ROMANS 13:8-10; Whosoever is born of God does not practice sin *1 JOHN 3:6-9. Sin is breaking anyone of God’s 10 commandments *JAMES 2:10-11 or not believing and following Gods’ Word *ROMANS 14:23.

As shown above from scriptures I do not believe your claims that Gods' 10 commandments are abolished Bob. This would pretty much disagree with all the old and new testament scriptures (more scripture?)

Thanks for sharing your view though but we will agree to disagree.

James also telling us that if we break God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments that we stand guilty before God of breaking all of God's 10 commandments in James 2:10-11.

Your welcome.

Sorry but you have me mixed up with someone else.

Here is my question —

  • Does anyone in this thread have some scriptures from Jesus or His apostles that instruct the Church how to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant?

Instructions that inform us what we must do or not do on the Sabbath, so we don’t violate any commands from Jesus.

Example:

When does the Sabbath begin
How far can we travel on the Sabbath
Can we cook in an electric oven
Can we get dressed
Can we take an injured person to the Hospital even if it is far
Is it a sin to attend church on Sunday rather than Saturday

Please give examples from Paul’s letters whereby he gave specific instructions to the Churches as to how they were to observe the Sabbath?

Here is you post # 380 for all to see, with not one single scripture at all, but only your opinion and “interpretation” tagged with a scripture reference.

What did Jesus and the Apostles teach about the Sabbath in the New Testament?

1. It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)
2. Jesus made the Sabbath for all mankind (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)
3. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28)
4. If you do not believe and follow God you cannot enter His Sabbath rest (Hebrews 4)
5. It is one of God’s 10 commandments we break it we are guilty or breaking all (James 2:8-12)
6. Breaking it is sin (1 John 3:4)
7. God’s true followers keep it Holy as God commanded (Rev 14:12; Rev 22:14; Eze 20:20)
8. Jesus is our example and he kept the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; 1 Cor 11:1; Eph 5:1-21; Pet 2:20-22)
9. The Apostle kept the Sabbath (Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)What did Jesus and the Apostles teach about the Sabbath in the New Testament?

No actual words or instructions from Jesus here, just your words tagged with references from the Bible. No actual instructions about how to observe the Sabbath. The law of Moses gave specific instructions about no cooking or gathering wood for a fire, or traveling. In addition the law required sacrifices to be made. Very specific instructions given by the Lord about the observing the Sabbath under the law.

Where are the New Testament instructions that are specific to the Sabbath given by Jesus. Doing good in something we can all do everyday of the week, not just Saturday.

Hello JBL,some comments for your consideration provided below.
Sorry but you have me mixed up with someone else.

Here is my question —

Instructions that inform us what we must do or not do on the Sabbath, so we don’t violate any commands from Jesus.

No, not getting you mixed up with anyone dear friend. I remember you well. You were provided many scriptures earlier in post # 380 linked that are instructions from Jesus as to how to keep the Sabbath in the new covenant.
Please give examples from Paul’s letters whereby he gave specific instructions to the Churches as to how they were to observe the Sabbath?
Why would I need to do that? The Jews and the people going to their Church's were already keeping the Sabbath for 4000 years as were Jesus and all the disciples. You might want to read what they already read and learned from the old testament. For example Exodus 20:8-11; Isaiah 58:13; As to your examples questions, here you go...

1. When does the Sabbath begin
(Sunset to sunset Leviticus 23:32; see also Genesis 1)

2. How far can we travel on the Sabbath
(it does not say of course we see Jesus and the Apostles travelling to Church on the Sabbath though in Luke 4:16; Acts of the Apostles 17:2)

3. Can we cook in an electric oven
(no preparation day is for cooking Exodus 16:4-5)

4. Can we get dressed
(It does not say anything in scripture about getting dressed or not getting dressed on the Sabbath but Jesus and the Apostles are our example and Yes, did Jesus, and the Apostles get dressed on the Sabbath?)

5. Can we take an injured person to the Hospital even if it is far
(Yes already posted many times now it is lawful to do good Matthew 12:1-12)

6. Is it a sin to attend church on Sunday rather than Saturday
(We can attend church everyday like the disciples did in Acts 2:47-48 that is not the problem it is sin however according to the scriptures to break God's 4th commandment like it is to break anyone of God's 10 commandments according to James 2:10-11; Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7 and 1 John 3:4

As posted earlier, Paul warns us in Hebrews 3:8-19 and Hebrews 4:1-12 that if we do not believe and follow Gods' Word we cannot enter into God's seventh day Sabbath rest and that it remains for the people of God who believe and follow Gods' Word to keep the Sabbath in Hebrews 4:9. James also telling us that if we break God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments that we stand guilty before God of breaking all of God's 10 commandments in James 2:10-11. Paul concludes the matter here that we which do believe enter into God's rest. Hebrews 4:9 THEREFORE IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH
I am sorry dear friend but I respectfully disagree with you but let's post out the scriptures in full so all can see that Jesus does indeed give instruction about the Sabbath. Keep in mind that instruction in regards to keeping the Sabbath is given in the old testament scriptures and the new testament does not delete the old testament as the Jews had already been keeping the Sabbath for 4000 years before Jesus came. So what did Jesus teach us building on what God taught us in regards to the Sabbath and how to keep the Sabbath?

It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath!

Matthew 12:3-12 [3] But he said to them, Have you not read what David did, when he was an hungered, and they that were with him;[4], How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the show bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?[5], Or have you not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?[6] But I say to you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. [7], But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless.[8], For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. [9], And when he was departed there, he went into their synagogue: [10], And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. [11], And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?[12], How much then is a man better than a sheep? Why it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

Jesus is the Lord of and creator of the Sabbath that he made for all mankind!

Mark 2:27-28 [27, And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:[28], Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

All of the above and much more was already provided to you. Take your time to read the scriptures shared with you from the first post.

Paul says that the Sabbath keeping still remains for God's people

Hebrews 4:9 THEREFORE IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH

.........................

Let me ask you a question now. Is it a sin to break anyone of God's 10 commandments?

Your welcome :)

I notice in your l o n g drawn out post that you didn't mention that the ten commandments were the ministry ofor that their glory was done away. Nor did you mention that ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? Then there is the fact that the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. How sad it is that you can't recognize that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth and that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

I thank God for the Holy Spirit replacing the ministry of death written on stones. I that God that those ten commandments that could only condemn were done away and what is written on my heart is the ministry of love. I thank God for Paul and his ability to so plainly write the truth in 2cor 3 and all the other scriptures that tell us we are not under the Law. I Thank God that because of the Word I won't ever be duped like the Galatians were in Gal 3.

P.S. Notice those verses Paul used the past tense.

This for some reason seems to be a confusing passage of scripture for some but it is not difficult if we follow context and what Paul has already stated in other passages. Paul is not stating anywhere in 1 Corinthians 3 that Gods' 10 commandments have been done away as this interpretation of the scriptures would have Paul contradicting himself (e.g. Romans 3:31 we will look at this further; Romans 13:8:10; Romans 7:7; 12; 1 Corinthians 7:19 etc).

The ministration of death is the condemnation and penalty for sin (disobedience or breaking God's law). The wages of sin is death according to Paul but the gift of God is eternal life through JESUS Christ *Romans 6:23. It is the ministration of condemnation that is done away in Christ because he paid the price for our sins and those who believe are have been made free to walk in God’s Spirit.

If we walk in God’s Spirit however we will not fulflill the lusts of the flesh according to Galatians 5:16. In fact if we walk in God’s Spirit God’s law is established in us because of God’s forgiveness for our sins and the scriptures are fulfilled in Romans 8:1-4 where Paul says [1], THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION TO THEM WHICH ARE IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.[2], For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. [3], For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4], THAT THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE LAW MIGHT BE FULFILLED IN US, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.

So your interpretation of 2 Corinthians 3:7 that God’s law has been abolished is not biblical. It is the ministration of condemnation and sins penalty that has been abolished in those who believe and follow God’s Word.

Need more evidence?

An interpretation of 2 Corinthians 3:7 of God’s 10 Commandments being abolished has Paul contradicting Himself In Romans 3:31. Here lets show how by comparing 2 Corinthians 3:7 where some interpret this scripture as God’s 10 commandments being abolished with Romans 3:31 where Paul state God’s law is not to be abolished but established through faith…

PARALLEL OF ROMANS 3:31

ROMANS 3:31 (Aramaic Bible in Plain English) Are we (G2673) eliminating The Written Law by faith? God forbid, but we are (G2476) establishing The Written Law.

ROMANS 3:31 (International Standard Version) Do we, then, (G2673) abolish the Law by this faith? Of course not! Instead, we (G2476) uphold the Law.

ROMANS 3:31 (KJV) Do we then make (G2673) void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we (G2476) establish the law.

Note the Greek word used here for void/eliminating/abolish is G2673 in the Greek

ROMANS 3:31 (Greek) νόμον οὖν (G2673) καταργοῦμενην διὰ τῆς πίστεως μὴ γένοιτο· ἀλλὰ νόμον (G2476) ἱστῶμεν

Note the same Greek word is used for ROMANS 3:31 is also used in 2 CORITHIANS 3:7…

2 CORINTHIANS 3:7 (International Standard Version) Now if the ministry of death that was inscribed in letters of stone came with such glory that the people of Israel could not gaze on Moses' face (G2673) because the glory was fading away from it,

2 CORINTHIANS 3:7 (Aramaic Bible in Plain English) But if the ministry of death in The Scripture carved in stone was with glory, so that the children of Israel were not able to gaze at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face (G2673) that which has been canceled ,

2 CORINTHIANS 3:7 (KJV) But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be (G2673) done away

……………

Note the same word used in ROMANS 3:31 for abolish is used in 2 CORINTHIANS 3:7 as shown above and is also translated as abolished in some English translations. Let’s look at the Greek word meaning that both scriptures use…

Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries w/TVM, Strong - G2673 καταργέω

Καταργουμένην; katargeō From G2596 and G691; to be (render) entirely idle (useless), literally or figuratively: - abolish, cease, cumber, deliver, destroy, do away, become (make) of no (none, without) effect, fail, loose, bring (come) to nought, put away (down), vanish away, make void.

Thayer's Greek Lexicon STRONGS NT 2673: καταργέω

καταργέω, κατάργω; future καταργήσω; 1 aorist κατήργησα; perfect κατήργηκα; passive, present καταργοῦμαι; perfect κατήργημαι; 1 aorist κατηργήθην; 1 future καταργηθήσομαι; causative of the verb ἀργέω, equivalent to ἀργόν (i. e. ἀεργον (on the accent cf. Chandler § 444)) ποιῶ; frequent with Paul, who uses it 25 times (elsewhere in N. T. only twice (Luke, Heb.), in the Sept. 4 times (2 Esdr., see below)); 1. to render idle, unemployed, inactive, inoperative: τήν γῆν, to deprive of its strength, make barren (A. V. cumber), Luke 13:7; to cause a person or a thing to have no further efficiency; to deprive of force, influence, power (A. V. bring to nought, make of none effect): τί, Romans 3:3; 1 Corinthians 1:28; τινα, 1 Corinthians 2:6 (but in passive); diabolic powers, 1 Corinthians 15:24 (Justin Martyr, Apology 2, 6); Antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:8; τόν θάνατον, 2 Timothy 1:10 (Epistle of Barnabas 5, 6 [ET]); τόν διάβολον, Hebrews 2:14; passive 1 Corinthians 15:26; to make void, τήν ἐπαγγελίαν, Galatians 3:17; passive Romans 4:14. 2. to cause to cease, put an end to, do away with, annul, abolish: τί, 1 Corinthians 6:13; 1 Corinthians 13:11; τόν νόμον, Romans 3:31; Ephesians 2:15; τόν καιρόν τοῦ ἀνόμου, Epistle of Barnabas 15, 5 [ET]; passive πόλεμος καταργεῖται ἐπουρανίων καί ἐπιγείων, Ignatius ad Eph. 13, 2 [ET]; ἵνα καταργηθῇ τό σῶμα τῆς ἁμαρτίας, that the body of sin might be done away, i. e. not the material of the body, but the body so far forth as it is an instrument of sin; accordingly, that the body may cease to be an instrument of sin, Romans 6:6. Passive to cease, pass away, be done away: of things, Galatians 5:11; 1 Corinthians 13:8, 10; 2 Corinthians 3:7, 11, 13f; of persons, followed by ἀπό τίνος, to be severed from, separated from, discharged from, loosed from, anyone; to terminate all contact with one (a pregnant construction, cf. Winers Grammar, 621 (577); Buttmann, 322 (277)): ἀπό τοῦ Χριστοῦ, Galatians 5:4 (on the aorist cf. Winer's Grammar, § 40, 5 b.); ἀπό τοῦ νόμου, Romans 7: (2 (Relz omits τοῦ νόμου)),6. The word is rarely met with in secular authors, as Euripides, Phoen. 753 κατάργειν χερα, to make idle, i. e. to leave the hand unemployed; Polybius quoted in Suidas (s. v. κατηργηκεναι) τούς καιρούς, in the sense of to let slip, leave unused; in the Sept. four times for Chaldean בַּטֵּל, to make to cease, i. e. restrain, check, hinder, 2 Esdr. 4:21, 23 2Esdr. 5:5 2Esdr. 6:8.

................

CONCLUSION: So as can be shown above an interpretation of 2 CORINTHIANS 3:7 that God’s 10 commandments are abolished has PAUL contradicting himself in ROMANS 3:31. The correct context of 2 Corinthians 3:7 is the ministration of condemnation and death that is to be abolished by the ministration of the Spirit as shown in 2 Corinthians 3:3-13 through faith in Christ and God's forgiveness of sin through Jesus. So nope not saying what you are dear friend. Your interpretation of 2 Corinthians 3:7 has Paul contradicting himself when he says In Romans 3:31 Do we then make (G2673) abolish the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we (G2476) establish the law

May God guide us as we seek Him through His Word.

1. When does the Sabbath begin
(Sunset to sunset Leviticus 23:32; see also Genesis 1)

The Sabbath occurs at sunset everyday?

I believe the scripture teaches the Sabbath begins at sunset, roughly 6:00 PM on the sixth day of the week, and ends at sunset or roughly 6:00 PM on the seventh day.

3. Can we cook in an electric oven
(no preparation day is for cooking Exodus 16:4-5)

Sorry sir, but that scripture refers to the law of Moses.

I asked for instructions from Jesus Christ, and His Apostles which are found in the New Testament.

Otherwise we must all following these commandments from the law of Moses —

Do you keep these Sabbath commandments from the law of Moses?

Sorry sir, but that scripture refers to the law of Moses.

I asked for instructions from Jesus Christ, and His Apostles which are found in the New Testament.

Otherwise we must all following these commandments from the law of Moses —

Do you keep these Sabbath commandments from the law of Moses?

No dear friend you are wrong but let me explain why from the scriptures. Preparation day is taught in Exodus 16:4-30 in context to the Sabbath and preparing for to keep the Sabbath by preparing all our food the day before the Sabbath. Something also known and taught in the new testament scriptures (Matthew 27:62; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; John 19:31). If you will notice there is nothing in regards to doing animal sacrifices in Gods 4th commandment in Exodus 20:8-11 and in the laws of preparing for the Sabbath in Exodus 16:4-30.

In regards to the laws for remission of sins and animal sacrifice these are shadow laws fulfilled in the body of Christ in the new covenant *Colossians 2:16. So under the old covenant for example the "shadow laws" for remission of sins pointed to the coming of the Messiah in Christ and his work on our behalf under the new covenant based on better promises according to Hebrews 8:1-6. The earthly Sanctuary along with the Levitical Priesthood, the laws for remission of sins, animal sacrifices and sin offerings and anything involved with them are fulfilled and continued in Christ who is now our new High Priest *Hebrews 7:1-25

Under the old covenant God's people looked forward in faith to the coming of the Messiah while in the new covenant today God's people look back to the coming of Christ and the fulfillment of the prophetic laws which are now continued in the body of Christ to which they all pointed to *Colossians 2:17; John 1:29; Hebrews 8:1-6; Hebrews 9:1-17; Hebrews 10:1-17. What this means for us today under the new covenant is that there is no more "shadow laws" of an earthly Sanctuary, no more laws of the Levitical Priesthood, not more animal sacrifices and sin offerings which are now fulfilled and continued in Christ based on better promises *Hebrews 8:1-6.

Jesus is now our great high Priest *Hebrews 7:1-25 ministering on our behalf in the Heavenly Sanctuary that the Lord pitched and not man *Hebrews 8:2 who is also God's perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world *John 1:29; 36; Hebrews 9:1-28; Hebrews 10:14-24; 1 John 2:2; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 5:2; Hebrews 10:10-12; 1 Peter 2:24; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 John 4:10. Jesus as our true sacrifice for the sins of the world. So anything here associated with the old covenant Levitical Priesthood and Sanctuary service and laws for remission of sins are no longer applicable for us today in the new covenant.

Hope this is helpful.

All that post just to "conclude" that because Paul wrote 31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.

I submit to you that you have taken verse 31 completely out of context to try to prove Paul didn't really write in 2Cor that the ten commandments were done away. How about explaining the preceding verses in chapter 31?

27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.

No place in Rom 31 does it tell us we are under the laws of the Sinai covenant. Eph 2:15, Gal 3:19 ETC..

Do you keep these Sabbath commandments from the law of Moses?
Of course, he doesn't. It is actually a game and everyone makes their own rules. That makes "keeping" the day much easier. I spent the weekend with "Sabbath keepers" and aside from actually going to a job it was just like any other day. Holy thoughts? no Biden thoughts? yes, yes. And by the way a certainly didn't bring up the subjects. For once I was pretty quiet. We learn a lot by listening.
