How much if any training did you get from the Church? Did your church allow you to sit in and listen to his lessons? Did it have a special spouses programs. What are your thoughts on these issues.

My husband was involved in the discernment and selection process for me becoming a candidate for ministry, but not in my training.

Personally, I think it's very important that churches learn that ministry is not a two-for-one deal; they are not getting a minister and an unpaid assistant. There should be no expectations placed on the minister's spouse, and they should be free (like any other person) to make their own decisions about their involvement based on their own gifts and sense of calling.

For most of my ministry, until the last six months, my husband did not regularly attend the churches where I ministered (we did not belong to the same denomination), and that was just fine.

JS: thanks for responding. My husband friend said as much. i wish our church did likewise and perhaps when I see our prime bishop again I bring this idea to the fore. I looked up that book and it sounds fantastic. Thanks again for sharing your own experience.
