The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday ruled in favor of a “devout Christian” professor who was disciplined because he “refused to refer to students by their ‘preferred pronouns'” after a 2016 directive at a small state university in Ohio ordered him to do so. The court held that university officials and a lower federal district court failed to recognize the professor’s First Amendment rights to free speech and to the free exercise of his religion. By so holding, the court decried the notion that a university might “wield alarming power to compel ideological conformity.”

Whats interesting is some of the transcript of the case showing the student to be hostile and vile.

After class, Doe approached Meriwether and “demanded” that Meriwether “refer to [Doe] as a woman” and use “feminine titles and pronouns.” This was the first time that Meriwether learned that Doe identified as a woman. So Meriwether paused before responding because his sincerely held religious beliefs prevented him from communicating messages about gender identity that he believes are false. He explained that he wasn’t sure if he could comply with Doe’s demands. Doe became hostile—circling around Meriwether at first, and then approaching him in a threatening manner: “I guess this means I can call you a cu–.” Doe promised that Meriwether would be fired if he did not give in to Doe’s demands.

You think its bad in the US check out Canada. It is much worse.
Why do you allow that? Are Americans voting for wrong political parties? Or is majority of citizens already agreeing with these policies and directly want them to continue?

There is a more basic practical problem. How many individual students do you suppose a professor has in class in the course of any given week? Let's say a professor teaches 3 classes a day with 30 students in each class, that is 90 students. That cohort meets on M, W, & F. On T & Thu, the professor teaches 3 more classes each day with 30 in each class. That is 90 more students, so now we're up to 180 students. How in the world is the professor supposed to remember the individual pronoun preferences of all those different individuals? I couldn't do it if I wanted to. The world has gone mad.

God forbid the professor should be unlucky enough to teach a large Freshman general studies class that has 100 students in it.

I think both. The electorate voted Biden in and our colleges are run by leftists. We are now reaping in the whirlwind.

Most of the world just cannot believe these reports, so not so much the world but rather the USA and possibly some countries culturally close to USA and influenced by the USA the most.

Wait Europe is just as far left or worse when it comes to social issues than the US. Maybe not in the Czech republic but in Europe as a whole.

Maybe Scandinavia and some few western EU countries are getting close to it too.

As a political liberal, I have to say I think this whole trend toward political correctness is bunk. As far as I am concerned you can be a different as you want to be and deserve to be treated justly whilst doing that, but you shouldn't necessarily expect the world to go along.

Mind you I'm not equating this to mental illness, but I do liken it to something from my field - one of the things we try to do when working with mentally ill persons is to help them realize their task is to adjust to the world because the world is not going to adjust to them.
